CDJ-2000NXS2: can't access rekordbox tracks on PC via USB link ("Library not responding.")

I haven't used my setup for about a year. I've fired up Rekordbox, saw there's a big update available, updated to 6.5.1 (Win10). I've made sure all the firmware and drivers are up to date, including Link drivers.

I've got 2 CDJs and mixer connected via ethernet. The left CDJ is then connected to the Windows PC where Rekordbox is via USB. This setup used to work flawlessly last year.

I launch Rekordbox, make sure it's in EXPORT mode, then turn on the DJ hardware. A few seconds later the LINK icon appears at the bottom of the Rekordbox window. I click it, which I'm assuming should enable the link? Anyway, when I now press the white "rekordbox" button on the CDJ, the list is empty and it shows a blue popup which says "Library not responding.". Same thing on the 2nd CDJ.

So, I'm assuming the connection is fine, the link is recognized and established, but for some reason the player can't access the Rekordbox library. What could be the problem? How can I troubleshoot this?

EDIT: my issue looks very similar to this, only my connection to the PC is through USB: https://forums.pioneerdj.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/900002047726-RekordBox-V6-5-not-Linking-via-Pro-Link-on-Win-10-

There are 4 networking components which require access - if one of them is blocked, then you could encounter this error. Please check that you don't have any other file sharing or server-type applications or services running, and that your firewall is configured to allow the traffic. For testing, you may consider disabling the firewall completely. Also verify that your network "zone" for either the direct ethernet connection or USB-to-ethernet bridge is set to "Home (Private)" and not "Public."

If you still encounter errors, please scan your computer for viruses and malware as those could be blocking certain ports.

Thank you for responding.

I'm a bit confused about the networking aspects here. As I understand it, I'm using a direct USB connection from one of the CDJs to my PC. There's no USB-to-ethernet bridge. The only ethernet network is between the 3 DJ units (2 x CDJ, 1 x DJM), but it doesn't extend to the PC.

This config used to work without issue, so I'm wondering what might have changed (apart from the Rekordbox version).

The USB connection is a "USB-to-ethernet" bridge as the other devices are then linked to each-other as opposed to connected directly.
