DDJ 800 SRT!!!!

+1 ... I realize Pioneer probably wants to steer people towards Rekordbox DJ (which is a great piece of software) but there are always going to be people who love Serato. I have used both extensively and right now, I'm on RB with a DDJ-800. I love the 2-channel controller. I'll probably stick with this gameplan for awhile, but I think Pioneer could make some decent sales on a DDJ-800srt ... I do believe there's a market for it.

Let me ask you guys a couple of questions.... what is it about the DDJ-800 that would make you want it in an SRT variation over any other Serato compatible DDJ, such as the DDJ-SR2, SX3, FLX6, or 1000SRT?

Is it the size of the unit?
Size of the jogs?
Number of channels?
Jog display?

What combination of features is it you're looking for when you're asking for a Serato version of the 800.

We need a professional 2 channel portable controller, a Serato version of DDJ 800 or a small version of DDJ 1000 SRT.

On my opinion, the plus it should have compared to any other Serato compatible DDJ, such as the DDJ-SR2, SX3, FLX6, or 1000SRT are:

- The size of the unit than the 1000 SRT

- Mechanical Jogs with Jog Adjust

- Long pitch fader

- Professional cross fader (Magvel Fader) with Crossfader Curve Adjust on controller

- Beat FX 

- Professional Terminals

- 2 USB ports

.. while maintaining the Serato Dj Effects and the Serato Loop section - It would be good but not fundamental

So the size and number of channels would be perfect for what we do at our company. We do mostly weddings and have recently started picking up more schools and birthdays. We have a few more djs and are wanting to get more gear, but portability -- Mainly size, weight, cost, and channels would allow us to buy more gear. Our kits have another brand of lighting control built in. Our DJs are familiar with Serato. Having a smaller controller that did the same as the 1000SRT but in a smaller package with the same amazing level of effects, build quality and features at the price of the RBX 800 would smash compitition, at least from a mobile dj perspective. 

I think a DDJ-800 SRT would be amazing with ONE piece of constructive critique. I owned the DDJ-800 because I'm a wedding DJ and I LOVE the size of it but I did not care for the microphone configuration. I could never balance the attenuation on the back and the volume to sound right. The DDJ-1000 and 1000 SRT, on the other hand, have incredible sounding mic inputs. I'm a "Serato guy" so currently using the DDJ-1000 SRT but (with mic issues corrected) on a DDJ-800 SRT, I'd jump all over that!

My Wedding DJ company uses multiple DDJ-SXs as we need 2 mic channels, 1 audio in for iTunes playlists or phone input, and obviously two mixing channels. It's time to update our controllers, and since the issue with hardware/software clearly forced P.D.J. to kill an SX-4, we need to find this functionality in as small a package as possible, which is why we won't be buying any DDJ-1000s, or larger. (We have a DDJ-SZ that stays at one venue as we can't move it around in our vehicles with the rest of our gear. It needs to be replaced too..)

I actually hate having the mics on the same channels as we would have on audio inputs 3 and 4, which is why we bought the SZ. Switching back and forth between itunes cocktail/dinner playlists and microphone, and having to change eq each time is cumbersome and takes my focus away from what's happening in the moment (usually toasts). So I've been (not so) patiently waiting for a Serato version of the DDJ-800. The separate aux trim is perfect for this! I'd happily trade no EQ control for this function.

I am slightly wary about reports of crashes with Rekordbox. Software ruining an event is not an option for weddings. Period. However, the biggest issue for me is actually that the hardware doesn't act as the authorization for the Rekordbox software, at lest the last time I tried it out. I don't want my guys, or myself, having to fiddle with serial numbers/auth/running out of auth when they should be focusing on their event, and me on my business.. If you haven't done so already, please make the hardware the thing that authorizes the software, if wanted... Perhaps make the serial optional for multi-channel use without hardware? 

In summary, the DDJ-800 seems to be the perfect controller that solves all my problems with previous controllers -- it's just missing Serato. The only things I might want are an additional mic in (and EQ), like the DDj-SX3 had and the slider pads that we use to quickly check and correct the trim on the track. Please release a DDJ-800 SRT and I'll buy 4 - or more! Currently looking to switch to Denon MC-4000 because of lack of support.

Where did you hear we're not making a successor to the SX3? We're always working on "the next thing"!

Not to throw our friends over at Serato under the bus, you can find plenty of reports of crashing with Serato DJ Pro as well. To be perfectly honest, I've mostly crashed rekordbox when trying to do stupid things with it - never when I've been performing and playing.

That's how rekordbox 6 works; hardware unlock. Connect the hardware, the software makes the corresponding features available. Best part? Even if you were to have a hardware failure, the software is entirely usable via mouse and keyboard to output through another audio interface (eg. the headphone output on the computer).

Is your desire to have a DDJ-800 sized product simply because you want the smaller footprint? Or because you're okay with fewer channels (obviously keeping the two mics on independent channels so you aren't losing them)?

Great feedback on the SX line and software issues! Thank you! I assumed the SX line might be gone for good as there was no replacement when the 3 was discontinued, in addition to PDJ staff steering sales to the DDJ-1000 as a "replacement". I'd have to say I like the arrangement of the effects section on the new gen controllers to be like on the DJM-750, etc, but we don't use them much for weddings anyway. 

Here's the big thing though; The fact that we can do the *same thing in the smaller footprint DDJ-800 and the flow of controls appears to be easier* (separate aux volume (for Spotify or iTunes), and mic controls, I would go with it over an SX. Keeping the mics with their own eq separate from the same channel faders as the line inputs is key to me now. If you made an SX with the mics (and their own eq) separate, I'd love that too. That would solve the switching between mic/line on one channel problem. It feels like its only one channel less on the DDJ-800, not two, given the fact that the aux/line in has it's own volume control, and we almost never used the second line in on the SX. (Am I wrong assuming the aux trim on the DDJ-800 is essentially its own volume control?) Thanks again!

The DDJ 800 would be awesome for Serato users...if we have to stick to the SR2 then it would be nice if the next iteration of the SR2 had:
- XLR main outs ...along with secondary main outs and booth outs and for these maybe 1/4" would make it more usable in the field instead of a house party.
- full size jog wheels .... not sure why these aren't standard by now.  the smaller size is pretty inconvenient and hurts the wrists after extended periods
- image on the jog wheels is cool but not really a requirement
- mic controls would be way better if controlled like how it is on the S9 or S11
- avoid any additional volume controls outside of the standard faders, gain, and main for the decks and the volume knob for mic... whenever there is an additional mini volume knob for any feature it just complicates things more than it should have to.

A ddj 800 srt would be an amazing addition to the ddj line up. I think If we continue to request this from pioneer dj, maybe they will hear us and start production.

I also believe if they made the ddj 800 able to run both platforms sales would triple or maybe even quadruple. The newer controllers are gear towards battle dj's.Not everyone is into scratching, we just want to give our customers a great experience.
