Midi specification for Toraiz.

Hi guys.

Is there a midi specification for the SP16? I just got a Squarp pyramid, an excellent midi sequencer, and I'd like to control aspects of the SP16.

Cheers

Hi Ste,

Thanks for the response.

Yes, I've seen that. I am referring more to midi IN to the SP16 rather than midi OUT to other devices.

What I am looking to do is to remotely control aspects of the SP16 from my Squarp Pyramid sequencer or from my DAW (ableton). Is there a list of any / all of the midi controllable parameters.

I know that the Octatrack, for example, has a pretty comprehensive midi specification allowing you to externally control many aspects of the device, but, by way of another example, the Tempest only has around 14 parameters that you can control externally.

Of course, the other big thing is the fact that you can't use an external midi keyboard to record trigs into the Toraiz.

So, I 'm wondering if there is a midi specification document in this regard and is any of the above on the roadmap?

Apologies for the long Friday afternoon (here in Europe at least) post!

Cheers

Simon

The midi spec document on the Pioneer site, I believe it's in the 1.2 addendum, includes the CC info for the SP16 parameters.

^ BINGO! Thanks Craig. I missed that manual.

Midi spec isn't bad.

I'm going to test and see if I can use my Squarp Pyramid as a 2nd, and even 3rd LFO now :)

This weekend I am going to dig in to using one of my Zaquencers to sequence the SP-16. I imagine some doors will open bypassing the 4 bar limit with some randomness and other tricks. Will report back later!

Good move with the Zaquencer. Always piqued my interest.

Let's compare notes next week so!

  • I have a Squarp Pyramid too. I will dig into the CC list and have a go at it as well.

This works by the way. I am able to use an external sequencer to overcome the 4 bar limitation and add things like randomization, alternate sequence playback direction, different lengths per track etc while still taking advantage of the SP-16s sample playback, effects and other features. It should not be necessary though, IMO. The SP-16 has all the hardware needed, they just need to add the features required to be a more competitive sequencer/sampler.
