Toraiz vs MPC Live (Videos)

I have to say that I was interested in purchasing the MPC Live but after watching most videos I changed my mind. When I compared the two machines the SP16 is the winner especially the different screen appearances and structure. The mixer, fx, sequence and even the home page all are more enjoyable to visualize and use then the MPC. Also the MPC has a clip mode which is limited compared to the SP16 for example when I have 16 pads loaded with loops I can run these in mute mode and turn on and off any pad. The advantage is I can run all 16 pads at the same time but on the MPC you can only run one loop per column. I'm keeping my SP16 and looking forward to more updates.

looks like the mpc will only be able to play long clips (longer than 32 sec) but only 8 tracks. essentially allocating the same amount of ram the toraiz has but slightly differently. I will say the battery power and the ability to load up a harddrive into the unit is quite tempting tho. However, even if I did cop the mpc live it would be in addition to not a replacement of the toraiz.

MPC has that rock solid sequencer, you can nudge the notes for a nice sloppy hip hop swing.  I wish the sp-16 was more hip hop/ trap friendly, wish there was an easier way to sequence 32 note hats without using the touch strip and for there way to customize the swing.  That being said I use the Toraiz as a way to perform live but I need longer than 4 bars, we should be able to have loops up to 32 bars at least... I mean the AS-1 can do 64bars so I dont see why the Toraiz wouldnt be able to.

you can totally nudge w the toraiz. if you go into a tracks sequencer there's offset, retrigger cnt, retrigger spd, shift and shift area. very useful for what you speak of. as the the 32 note sequence, i could and would use that.

I've been working away from home and staying in a hotel,Toraiz by my side in the hotel room.

Been researching the mpc live .Ive gotta say that battery is a winner in my eyes .As I do like the pioneer workflow with the 16 step buttons ,the touch screen on the mpc is fast as f...  .I reckon with a touch pen it would be sooo easy to get a beat down ,by just drawing it in .I haven't made up my mind whether I'm gonna sell the toraiz ,but I think it might have to go ,unless we've got some smartish updates.

Why on earth didn't pioneer make theirs with a lithium battery ? For the money it should be all singing and dancing.

I'm thinking along the way that when akai bring out the wireless updates the toraiz is on eBay or maybe sooner.

The live is much better. 4FX per pad audio track recording no sample time limit. User installable ssd hd capable. Way more sounds ,user creatable sample kits ,YOU CAN ERASE samples on unit. Truncate, copy track, copy damn near anything. You can properly midi sequence your external synths
Just plug in and play,no weird half assed midi control but full midi control .I have the sp16 and the mpc live only thing sp16 has is a warmer sound from the outputs. Other than that the mpc live is cobra ki
And the sp16 is the karate kid without the Mr miyagi training . Two totally different beasts the MPC LIVE is for someone that wants to make a professionally produced song . This can be pretty much be done on the machine if you need all the vst's plug it in to your computer with the 2.0 software and you get more sounds, and almost unlimited audio track recording. I'm canceling my splice subscription, and put my sp16 back In the box and it's going to stay there until I see what the next sp16 is update brings
If I'm not wowed it's going on Ebay. All the pretty lights and buttons don't mean a thing if I can't copy a sample or sequence with all data. From track to track .

what's the learning curve on the 2.0 software for someone that's never used it? currently waiting on more reviews before I cop the live (think my shops are saying june 11th now), comments like this make that wait just a little shorter :)))

2.0 is pretty nice hardest thing so far was the install I'm more so concentrating on the live in standalone mode now to master it. But my friends that have the mpc touch love 2.0 right now. I will say the sp16 does sound better than the live it's warmer but I fixed that by sampling thru Akai s900 into the mpc live for that extra crunch to the sound. The live is a great investment no regrets and my mv8000,mpc 500,mpc 1000,Roland mc808,909,korg es2 sampler, emu mp7 and Mabey. Toriaz are going to Ebay.

Well, ever since i pre-ordered the toraiz and received it 8/2016 i still have the illusion of live looping on the fly like they had announced it can do,i have been playing a lot with the toraizes (as-1) as well and i have to say even with all the waiting for updates and dissapointments i still cant seem to get my hands off it,i like the feel the easy flow, the looks and sound especially recording samples from the As-1 and using them on trax also the resample feature, ya'll could sell yours but i have the complete setup of pioneer dj and have lots of fun with it,i grab some sounds from the cdjnxs2 going thru the efx on the djm900nxs2 giving it some juicy efx and add some fat sound from the as-1 and im cooking,i was planning to get the mpc live but if all means i still need a pc to make a complete song because of need for vst then i think i will pass and wait till im 50 and see if pioneer, akai or any othe company makes a unit where its easy as the sp-16 but that can do everything a pc can as far as music creation including being able to install vst's,i mentioned this before here, pioneer needs a dope workstation somewhat like the kronos but easy like sp16, the kronos requires so much digging thru menus that you wont even feel like creating music after a couple hours in it at least imo. Im keeping my setup not getting anymore cdjs or djms but if they come up with new rmx i would cop it.hopefully the 1.4 update is on its way i check the site every day hoping they release it.
