Pioneer sp 16 so far

Can't wait for update 1.4 hope 32 sec limit can be changed for people that don't use all 16 pads, tracks we should get more sampling time ,I never use all 16 tracks. Seperate eq per track , sample editing by 1's 10's,100's1000's increments to make sample editing easier. Mabey use the big knob to change this setting it takes forever now.
I do like the splice sound kit aspect although. The 32 saw sample time kinda kills it , so less track usage to equal more sample time would be nice . As it stands I can do more on my Korg electribe esx 1. But it's faster in every way but getting old I'm waiting to fully commit to the sp 16. Hopefully the update will allow that to happen keep up the good work we are hoping for magic with this next os.

I don't understand how the 32 second limit is a problem when the SP-16 is clearly designed for 4 bar loops. Its not a DAW and it's not suited to trimming samples or chopping. It doesn't have to be. But it does pattern sequencing extremely well.

As much as I don't really like dragging on touch screens, dragging the markers on the sample is the best way to get to somewhere fast then fine tuning it with the controller.

You have to look at new gear with new eyes. The MPCs I have owned were exactly what I thought they were going to be. The SP-16 does things differently and concentrating on the things you are used to doesn't do it justice. It's not the box to take a sample and screw with it like old school. I used to take a sample on the MPC, trim it, stretch it, pitch it, put fx on it until it sounded nothing like the original. MPC still has a place for me. The SP-16 doesn't inspire me to do that but the sequencing is far far better than bangin the pads to record a pattern. And step modulating the hell out of a sample is something the MPC could never hope to achieve.

It's not suited to trimming and chopping ?
It's a $1500 SAMPLER we sell a product that advertises SAMPLING and CHOPPING .
But just not so great . I dunno it should still be better then a 10 year old sampler and I say this because I have at least 10 to 15 samplers old mostly and this is the modern age sampling workstation as it's been called before the basics of this machine should still be better than a Korg esx 1,Roland s50,Yamaha su 700,zoom st 224 sampletrack,Roland mv 8000, Yamaha rs 7000 ,akai s900. There is no excuse I should not be able to edit a sample by ear faster on less advanced samplers then on the sp 16 .
I love the potential of the machine I wish I was a beta tester before sale instead of after . The sp 16 would have been put up head to head with numerous sampling workstations to insure the basics were implemented. I truly believe pioneer are working on making os 1.4 the best update yet
But sp 16 was pushed as a production sampling workstation on many videos and website vids selling it and it's not quite there yet And for the. Price we should not accept anything less it's like having a $70,000 dodge hellcat with 600 hp you buy it and find out its got a top speed of 50 mph . I was ok with 32 sec even but sample chop ,edit, management, midi you should not be able to do more on a 20 year old machine just facts.

Toraiz SP-16's real weakness is it's lack of a fully functioning sample editor. Maybe I'm too used to another way of working but there's some basic sample editing features that have been missing for way too long now ..Normalization, Extract, Trim, its a real shame. I do like that it sounds just as good as your samples but I don't like that if your samples are untouched and raw you have to figure-out new ways to get them up to par by using Resampling or Compression and you can't really edit, trim, or master them....who works like that?
Other hardware samplers have so many basic sampling functions built into their regular way of working, it beats Toraiz SP-16 hard to become more than a "sample player"

I didn't want to be critical and yes, I came up with tracks being creative with the current limitations but Pioneer is going up against giants with 4-sample pad layering, key-mapping, real editing, chopping, P-Locking, max sample memory, looping, multiple FX, etc. Only offering Sync, a touchscreen, DSI filters, and the Pioneer look as strengths, it just isn't enough.

People once complained about the Octatrack being too embedded and technical but as deep as it gets, it's users don't feel limited and lacking the basics.
