Rekordbox Video Playlists and other video issues

I know this has been mentioned before, but Pioneer really seem to be treating Video as a small addon to Rekordbox as it seems they aren't sorting out the many frustrations that people are having.  I use 90% video at my gig and there are still irritating issues that have still not been fixed (some for over a year)

  • When you search your whole collection, you can't then drag a video to a video playlist
  • When you search the whole collection, there is no way to sort the order to show videos at the top for example.  I know you can then click on video collection and search again but it is another step
  • iTunes Video Playlists don't show up.
  • You can't create mixed playlists - this is really annoying and I know Pulse has explained that it's about stopping DJs accidentally trying to export videos to a usb but surely there must be a way to make USB export 'audio only'.  I don't have the video for EVERY song I want to play, but I don't want to have to flick between audio and video playlists each time to choose the next song.
  • A small gripe - when I used Virtual DJ, i could just quickly search for a video version of a song by adding mp4 in the search box e.g. 'rhapsody mp4' - this doesn't appear to be possible in rekordbox
  • When playing videos, I have have the setting on 'low'.  If I choose 'high' the video will either instantly freeze or freeze after a short time.  If I choose 'medium', it plays mostly OK without stutter but I am left with black bars on some videos, mostly 4:3 ones which I don't think display in the correct aspect ratio anyway.  If I choose 'low' it seems to stretch to fill a 16:9 screen on most videos.  A choice of aspect ratios / zoom / fill etc would be much better, especially as 1080p videos on 'low' look pretty bad.  It's not my spec - I have a MacBook Pro with Retina with 16GB of RAM.  Virtual DJ played everything perfectly - in fact, I used to use large VOB files on VDJ which again played without issue and having just had to spend the best part of 2 weeks converting them all as Rekordbox doesn't support VOB files I'm a bit annoyed that the quality of the video seems to be lowered just to get these to play.

There may be others, these are just what spring to mind.  Having used VDJ for years, I'm finding the transition to Rekordbox quite frustrating.  I was hoping to save money on my VDJ licence by moving over to Rekordbox (VDJ doesn't support the RX2 yet anyway) but I am not finding Rekordbox suits my needs right now.

Again, for issues with performance, please file an inquiry ticket here and our rekordbox support team will be able to gather some additional information to assist you in resolving this issue.

As for the combined playlists, this is something our team is still working on but I don't have a timeline for its implementation. Sorry.

Sorry, this is a known bug.

  • When you search the whole collection, there is no way to sort the order to show videos at the top for example.  I know you can then click on video collection and search again but it is another step

My suggestion would be to simply search the videos category, or tag all your videos with the MyTag "Videos" and then add that as a filter.

  • iTunes Video Playlists don't show up.

iTunes Video playlists are not currently supported.

  • You can't create mixed playlists

Still on the list.

  • A small gripe - when I used Virtual DJ, i could just quickly search for a video version of a song by adding mp4 in the search box e.g. 'rhapsody mp4' - this doesn't appear to be possible in rekordbox

"mp4" isn't in the searchable content, it's the filename extension. As noted above, try adding the MyTag instead; you can easily tag your entire collection of videos in about 3 clicks.

  • When playing videos, I have have the setting on 'low'.  If I choose 'high' the video will either instantly freeze or freeze after a short time.  If I choose 'medium', it plays mostly OK

This is entirely to do with your computer's specs and capability to manipulate and display video.

  • without stutter but I am left with black bars on some videos, mostly 4:3 ones which I don't think display in the correct aspect ratio anyway.  If I choose 'low' it seems to stretch to fill a 16:9 screen on most videos.  A choice of aspect ratios / zoom / fill etc would be much better,

This is also on the list.

HAHA.

I just posted a message to people to warn them about the lack of support and the struggeling slow RB Video...

I also tried V-dj on my mac mini, and that plays fine in HD, and the stupid RB-belgium tech support keep blaming it on my system...

Frigging frustrating !

160 Euros spend on a piece of shit that does not work.

But I can see also that they keep blaming it on your machine too....

Well Pioneer, I have a video edit machine with an 8 core Cpu, 24 gigs of ram and a GTX 1077, 2 SSD drives in Raid zero !

And I will do some testing on that....
At least it should work in medium quality....

rekordbox and Virtual DJ are two different software applications, so you can't really equate them.

Yes, please do test the performance on your other computer, and if you experience any issues, please file an inquiry ticket here and our rekordbox support team will be able to gather some additional information to assist you, or to even help escalate it to our rekordbox engineers. We want to make rekordbox work as well as it can across a wide range of computer systems, so knowing why it's not performing adequately on your computers will certainly help.

I have to agree with most of the OP's comments. It bugs the hell out of me that i have to search both through audio and video folders to locate tracks and even more that i cannot combine playlists. I bought the RZX based on the fact that it was the flagship video controller - Make it work with videos!

However, so many users are unwilling to blame their hardware for the failings in video playback - freezing, stuttering etc. However, i can happily report that with my video setting at "High" and i get no issues with playback.

Windows 10 Asus Laptop. Intel Core i7 - 6700HQ 2.6Ghz. 32gb Ram. External Mains powered Hard Drive.

But please Pioneer, sort the mixed playlist issue.......

BTW... i am awaiting delivery of a Reloop Touch. Will be interesting to see how it compares.....

@spin / seven8 > We are here to support users, but we will direct you to file a ticket because that way our technical support team and engineers can collect your computer specs and communicate with you directly to address YOUR specific issue.

The only other post you made recently was a piggy-back on another user's issue, which isn't at all related -- and that's exactly why we direct users to tickets, so as not to confuse issues on one forum post.

I'll reiterate what I said previously - there is currently no way to have mixed-media playlists, but our engineers are well aware of the requests.
