I'm considering coming back to Pioneer after using Traktor with an S4 + F1 for several years, and the question is: is the 3-year-old DDJ 1000 still the controller to get now? I'm going to make the hike to a proper DJ equipment shop so I can try it out. Is there anything about it you're recommend I check out in particular?
Given how far down on the product page it is, it wouldn't be surprising to see an MK2 version in 2023. But the only downsides I'm heard about the current model are that the analog phono inputs don't have great sound quality, and that it only works with Rekordbox. Also, I don't see visual confirmation for Shift-functions like Vinyl/CDJ jog mode. I'd also appreciate a Time knob on the Beat Effects part of the mixer (even the DJM 600 and 450 had that). None of those things are deal breakers for me, though.
I started DJing on 1200 MK3s + Vestax mixer + EFX-500, then got a DJM-600 and CDJ-800s, then sold the turntables and 800s and got CDJ-1000 MK3s, and then sold all of that and switched to Traktor. I'm all in on digital DJing, but I miss Pioneer's control surface and club style layout. Also, I'm tired of dragging my controller with me to gigs or fussing with midi mapping to get Traktor to work directly with CDJs (the default mappings are so boring, and the places I play at don't have the latest CDJs).
I can afford to buy the DDJ -1000, but it means I'll be sticking with it for a long time. I hope that it will give me a good environment to practice and record sets at home, and that I can export my music to USB or take just my laptop when I play out.
