DDJ-1000 stiff jog wheel

I just got a ddj-1000 srt but I'm having lots of difficulties with the jog wheel tension. The left side works fine but the right side is extremely stiff. Seems like a mechanical issue but I don't know if I trust myself to pop open the unit and try to clean the jog wheel mechanism.
