It will work, but as there is no send/return, and the ProDJ Link does not share beat grid / sync data, it will not function as it does with CDJs.
Thinking about getting an djs1000 .. will it work correctly with my opus-quad

@Pulse quick point of clarification: regarding external devices, when you say "the ProDJ Link does not share beat grid / sync data", do you mean PRO DJ LINK - as realized on the Op4 - doesn't share beat grid/sync data with any external PRO DJ LINK device/source (CDJ, XDJ, DJS, SP-16, Rekordbox LINK when networked and in Export Mode, and/or any of the open source or proprietary ProLink-centric solutions)?
i thought one of the primary functions of PRO DJ LINK was to share beat grid/sync data between Pioneer DJ devices which have PRO DJ LINK embedded (unless the device is using a 'LITE' version of PRO DJ LINK like the xdj-rx2), at least since the CDJ-2000nexus.
to rephrase the OP's question: can the DJS-1000 be used on one of the Op4's four mixer channels as an external device (which it can) but also make use of PRO DJ LINK's usual syncing abilities (SYNC) either in PLAYER or DRUM MACHINE Modes?
obviously, it's good to know what is and is not possible with the DJS-1000 when used in various setups and I thank you @Pulse for whatever the answer is.
but, i am also curious why AlphaTheta has decided to, essentially, lock out their own PRO DJ LINK-enabled devices from a brand new Pioneer DJ device which itself appears to be within the PRO DJ LINK ecosystem. Or is there now a PRO DJ LINK PLUS variant, incompatible with PRO DJ LINK?
Think of it this way -- the four internal players take ProDJ Link IDs 1-4, and a DJS-1000 would be #5... but it can't be, it doesn't support higher than 4. Likewise even connecting a CDJ-3000 doesn't work as player 5 or 6 because the Opus Quad doesn't support linked players (because it can't identify players higher than #4).
The only thing it can link to is rekordbox, for export mode and ProDJ Link lighting control.
This is not locking out other devices, it was a decision made based on the design and use of the product and the needs of the hardware components as a result.
What is the setup for using the Opus Quad in ProDJ Link lighting mode, I have a RB-DMX1 which I understand is discontinued.
