I just spoke with tech support and at first the rep said it would work in 64-bit mode but by the end of the call said it would not. I was told the driver is only 32-bit. This is very disappointing. I thought this issue had been resolved. It's not like 64-bit operating systems are a new thing. They have been around for years now. I see that there is a driver, version 1.200, for Windows that supports 64-bit but no updated driver for the Mac. The version history for the Mac driver says 1.1.0 is the same version that shipped with the mixer.
I asked tech support if Pioneer was going to write a 64-bit driver for the Mac and the rep said no. Later the rep told me I could keep checking back to see if there was a new driver.
My plan was to keep this mixer for at least 5 years. I don't want to have to reboot my computer into 32-bit mode at every gig for the next 5 years. I know I could hookup my laptop with analog connections but part of the point of buying this mixer was to simplify the connections and have an external multi-channel sound card built-in.
Next, Mac OS X 10.7 Lion was released today. I don't know if I will even be able to boot into 32-bit mode once I make the switch to Lion.
I would like to know if Pioneer has any plans to update the driver for the Mac OS to support 64-bit. I'm willing to move forward with this mixer if there is a plan to update the driver. If there's no plan to update the driver or if it's unknown if the driver will be updated, I'm going to have to return this mixer to the vendor. Is there someone here that can answer that question? Is there someone else at Pioneer I can call to find out.
