Pro dj link question

Hi all, purchased a djm 900 today and wondering something. Does my mixer have to be connected to a laptop/computer for the pro dj link to work? I want the quantized effects to work, I have 2 cdj 900's and am not quite at the stage of using a computer. Also can anyone recommend a cheap LAN hub that would work? Thanks

you do not HAVE to have it plugged into a laptop, if you export your tracks to a usb device and plug them in to the 900's, you will be good to go, Just make sure quantizing is enabled when the tracks are being analyzed

I personally use a 5 port Cisco/Linksys switch, (Cisco-Linksys EZXS55W EtherFast 10/100 5-Port Workgroup Switch), It was not that expensive, maybe like $30 and it works great, I know Netgear makes a great one too so I guess look at the prices and see what you want to spend

@Chris > Yupp, just make sure your tracks are analyzed and exported from Rekordbox onto a USB device, as well have "Quantized" turned on in the Menu Utility on the CDJ's, and you press the "Quantize" button on the DJM-900.

I use an 8-port DES1008E LAN switch from D-Link. It's appealing in looks and works great for me. There is also a 5-port model (DES-1005E) available. My 8-port was about $32 new.

@Foster - ok, ok, for the pendantic in the room..... used the hub with 2 x CDJ900s and a DJM*800* until the middle of last year, before upgrading to a DJM900nxs when it was released! Lol

Would you also like me to put a footnote that the DJM800 doesn't have an ethernet port, so it was just the CDJ900s that were ProDJ linked, or can we take that as read?! ;-)

I think one of the finer points of this thread has been overlooked.  Sure, to use Quantize on the CDJ-900's without a laptop, just use RekordBox analyzed files on a USB stick or SD card.  BUT, if you want the DJM-900nexus to benefit from Quantize as well, you will need to make sure that the DJM and both CDJs are connected to a network switch via ethernet cables.  A computer does not need to be connected.

@mark90 > Thank you, yes; you are right!

@Chris > You will need a computer in order to use the rekordbox software which will analyze and build in 'data' to your audio files. You can then choose to export your audio files to what format you are comfortable with (external hard drive, USB, SD card etc). Then you can insert these into either one of the players. Using a cat5 cable you can connect one player to another - no computer needed - and you'll have one CDJ mirroring the other.

@Mark90 and @Gavin > @BriChi mentioned it in the first post and I meant to agree and branch off. ;) (but thank you again for the confirmation as I didn't really get to it)

Hi all,

I've just bought a pair of Cdj 2000's a Djm 900 and I'm using rekordbox with usb's, all hooked up together with Lan and RCA's I have all the latest firmware updates installed.

In the youtube video I've linked below at 2 mins 50 Rik shows the quantized effects:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCzOWTkNwbY

My setup is no where near as  fast at catching up with the bpm readings yet in the video it shows Rik's changing instantly on the effects screen.

Is there something else I need to be doing I'm initialising the quantize button selecting the correct channel on the effector and the tracks I'm using on usb have all been through rekordbox?

I'm also have some problems with the players on air lights, Cdj1 mixer channel is upfaded and it turns Cdj 2's on air light on even though it's playing nothing!?

Hope someone can help.

Thanks

Stew

You need to have the quantize selected on the track, the player, the mixer and then on the effects section, have the channel selected from which you want to pick up the BPM grid info.

Regarding the on-air status, you likely have the players numbered incorrectly relative to which channel they are connected to on the mixer.  Check that in the player settings; disconnect the LAN cable to change them.

Can I use cat6 instead of my cat5?  I found these color (the yellow and the orange are hot) cables but they are cat6, so question is: can I use cat6 for PRO DJ Link?
