DJM-900 - Recording spikes when recording via USB

Hi everyone before I start here is my PC specs:

Dell 3550

Processor: Intel Core -5-2410M CPU @ 2.30 GHz

Installed memory (RAM): 4.00GB

Windows 7 Professional (64 bit)

I seem to be having a problem when recording. I'm using Audacity and am recording via the USB. The mix records and sounds ok but looking at the wav data the file spikes pretty often. Any ideas about this? I have turned my Network Card off.

Here's a couple pics...

Am I better off using record out?

Also, because of these spikes I'm unable to turn the volume up without clipping the audio. Actually, if you look closely you can notice that some of the audio has already been clipped in the initial recording.

@RnAoDm > It's unlikely this would be a sampling frequency problem, but are you sure you have your sample rate set to 96kHz on the DJM-900 settings?

Again this probably isn't a problem, but what do you have your output level set to on the DJM-900 within the settings? i.e. -19db

Have you ensured you're running the latest firmware and drivers for Windows with the DJM-900?

Please check this page  HERE to download and install any updates if necessary.

If none of this helps, do you perhaps have access to a different computer you could install the drivers and software on and see if you receive different results?

Hi Foster,

The sample rate in the DJM-900 settings is set to 44.1kHz (this is under the ASIO tab). I have tried before to change it to 96kHz but I'm not sure how, I tried clicking on the 96kHz test and nothing happens?

The output level is set at -19db.

My current software version of the DJM-900 driver is 1.303 which appears to be the most current. I'm not at home currently to check the firmware version on my DJM-900 but as far as I remember it is Ver.1.200 (1.2.10 being the most recent).

Thanks!

Also, I do have another laptop at home that I will try recording with if I must.

@RnAoDm > Again, the sample rate most likely is not the issue, but since I asked, I'd like to follow up on it too:

So the ASIO sample rate is set to 44.1 kHz, and the DJM-900 is set to 44.1 kHz in the settings?

Which one are you having troubles changing, the DJM-900 or ASIO?

Is your sample rate in Audacity set to the same as the ASIO settings and the same as the DJM-900 settings?

As for the issue, have you tried recording on the other computer?

You can possibly try a different USB port on the computer, and a different USB cable also.

Thanks for all your help. I switched the USB port and it now works, I guess the other one had some issues.
