@D:form > Do you have the bitrate / samplerate matched on the hardware and the software?
Hi All,
Just purchased a new setup containing 2 CDJ-2000's and a DJM-900nxs. I have everything linked with a DLINK gigabit switch running off a USB in deck 2. Had a couple of issues recording with Audacity over USB in relation to clipping and constant speeding up of the track, read over some of the previous threads and got that fixed by disabling some things and the mix records smooth and thorough. However my biggest issue is there seems to be a HUGE lack of bass in the recording. Like I said, since disabling a couple things, the recording is very thorough and catches everything perfectly, but it just sounds tinny, as if its trying to broadcast through the speaker in an iphone or something alike. When I compare what I'm hearing by listening to the recording on my laptop through my headphones vs. cueing the master on my mixer at pretty much the exact same volume level, DRASTIC DIFFERENCE. As if the recording on the laptop had the "LOW" EQ knob either fully cut out or just nowhere near where the "MID" and "HI" were positioned. All the EQ knobs are placed at 12:00 and even if i were to up the "LOW" end a little past 2:00, no help at all. Really stuck on this, if anyone can help at all...... I'm just reeeeally eager to start recording some mixes :( sorry if I left anything out, any help is honestly GREATLY appreciated!!!!
Thanks,
Danish

@D:form > Do you have the bitrate / samplerate matched on the hardware and the software?
Hi Pulse, Call me a noob but I'm not quite sure what the bitrate is running on the djm... I've set the sampling rate for 48000 on both the djm and audacity/djm setup utility, and I've cycled through 16-24-32 bit on audacity all with the same results at -10db. I imagine they were matched at one point when I cycled the bitrates a couple times but still to no avail... But either way I'm not really sure what bitrate is running on the mixer
As per page 23 of the user manual, you need to change it in the club settings menu -- press and hold the utility menu while powering-up the mixer, then change the value. You can also change the output level; I suggest -5dB.
Yes I realize that, as I've already cycled between 48000 and 96000. In the setting utility it looks like 48000 is the only sample rate that can be chosen so I match that up both on the mixer and through Audacity. Again the recording sounds pretty clean and thorough, just mainly lacking bass. Again I don't fully know what the mixer is running in terms of bitrate as I can't find the reading on the mixer, nor on the setting utility, but I tried all 3 options (16 bit, 24 bit, and 32 bit) all with the same result, lacking the much needed bass. I've tried different tracks, I even tried playing the exact same track (the recording through audacity, and the identical track through windows media player @ flat eq), Audacity just seems to cut the low end out of the whole recording. It honestly just has me really confused... should I try another program to record with?
AND SHAZAM! i think i figured it out hahahaha! i don't think it has anything to do with Audacity or the mixer or the recording at all! in fact it all records fine! I'm pretty sure it must be the soundcard in my laptop as it's not reproducing the sound as my mixer does.... is there anyway I can test out this theory by sending the recording back out through the mixer via usb and playing off my master speakers? I'm honestly going to facepalm if this is what the case actually is..... yet I'll be very pleased.... :)
I guess obviously I can save the recording onto USB and play it through one of my decks to test the theory out, but essentially am I able to use the mixers soundcard simultaneously both to record and playback the recording back through to the mixer? if that makes any sense at all.
You can, just assign the output within Audacity and set the mixer channel to USB!
