So what happened?

What happened to the old forums?  What happened to all the old members?  What happened to my like 4000 posts?  What happened to the activity?  This place used to hop.  IS Facebook to blame?

Hey Stevie - this is a much better solution for us (and the end users as a result). Issues are alerted to the attention of engineers who login on the back end and can feed us results in a much more timely fashion.

Welcome back!

lol old post bump

A lot of us gave up.  The new forum software is nowhere near as user-friendly as the old stuff.  It's not really a message board in the sense as we usually understand it, so it's difficult to use it as such.  It seems to work OK for it's intended purposes (an easier way for the end users to reach out to reps and techs) but as a way of generally posting/chatting/whatever, it's kind of hinky to use.  They could take several lessons from regular BBS software to enhance the user experience.

@ThatGuyWill > Can I ask why you find it so different to the old Eve software? I find it works pretty well right now... but perhaps I'm biased.

For me, ZenDesk has 2 main differences:

1)  Forum qualities such as post editing, quoting, rich editing and embedding are missing - simply because this is ticket software, not forum software.

2)  No things like post counts, achievable user status or 'member since' to satisfy the real 'forum junkies'.

These are things that the Internet on the whole are used to.  It's just different, that's all.  The non-editing of posts is extremely frustrating though.  Personally, I hate typos.  I usually avoid them by strict proof reading, but now and again one makes it through, especially as sometimes I have to post in a hurry... not because I do a lot of posting at work, nooo...

Mark covered most of what I don't like about it.  It doesn't have that "community" feel that the old forums (or any forum) had.  Even the inane post count matters in a subconscious way.  I'm sure it works great for it's intended use, but people who are just here to chat and don't have problems, it's not really all that great.  Also, and I know this has been covered, but the fact that you can't just leave it sorted to most recent posts is most annoying.
