hdj-2000 fit & sound insulation

I've currently got hdj-1000s, but I need something to spend my money on and want a new toy! So I'm thinking of getting some new headphones.

Naturally I'm thinking of the hdj-2000s, so I have a couple of questions for any current owners...

  1. The ear cups look pretty big (which i like), do they completely go over the outer ear? And your ear sits inside so to speak.

  2. I know the sound quality will be great, I'm not worried about that, but how's the sound insulation? I guess the question above will have an impact, if your whole ear goes inside the cup and the pads are only against your head I bet it's amazing!

Currently my hdj-1000s has to sit a little on my ear, either top, bottom or back, depending on how I position it, but either way it pushes my ear back a bit and as I have a bad ear it sort of blocks up my inner ear a bit and obviously hinders my hearing (small ear canals and funny angles, had operations and everything lol)

Thanks for any replies/help

1) Yes, although this is entirely dependent on the size of your ear. Mine fit in quiet snuggly.

2) Really good - given that the cups close right around my ear (and the fit is really snug) it allows for better sound isolation. Even if you are Dumbo, the protein leather clamps over your ear with actually feeling like a clamp.

They really are the best (sounding and comfort) headphones I've ever used. Hence why I have two pairs ;)

Thanks for the feedback! I saw this feature description on the HDJ-1500 - 'Monitoring tracks on a heaving dance floor is a breeze with the HDJ-1500s, no matter how rowdy the party gets. Sound insulation around low and medium frequencies (300 Hz to 1,300 Hz) has improved by an impressive 4 dB compared to the HDJ-1000s thanks to the innovative sound-isolation chamber on the bass reflex port, which eliminates background noise.'

Is it better for sound insulation than the HDJ-2000s? Or do the answers to my original questions mean the HDJ-2000s have better sound insulation?

The 2000s are still number one in my book - insulation is still much better in the 1500s than the 1000s but the 2000s are the cream of the crop.
