How to connect RMX 1000 to non-Pioneer mixers when Master is not an option

I have been trying to figure out how to best connect my RMX 1000 to non-Pioneer mixers for a while, especially when hooking it up to the master output is not an option. This is a real issue since clubs use an amazing variety of mixers and almost always it's the balanced outputs that feed the amps. And if they do use RCA or TRS they will certainly not let you turn everything off for a while while you hook up, and disconnect your RMX 1000.

I have figured out a decent way to connect my Ecler NUO 5, it's not 100% but the best I've managed so far. The mixer has send / return but it's is useless for working with the RMX 1000. The Ecler way is to leave the original input and double it up with an effected output, overload and flanging instantly occur unless you set the fader to 0. So to turn on the effect you have to push the effect button and simultaneously lower the fader to zero. Try to do that on both channels simultaneously. And if you assign the effects to both channels the RMX 1000 input gets overloaded, since I mainly use the effects this way it result in an unacceptable work flow with constant adjustments of the RMX input / output, effect buttons and faders.

My workaround assigns the effect unit to one side of the crossfader, ok for my mixing style but of course not for everyone. And be VERY careful when hooking things up, you don't want to end up with sound loops that can damage your equipment.

Connect the return to the channel five line input, assign that to the right side of the crossfader and the channels for your CDJ's / turntables to the left side. Make sure that the effects on channel five is not engaged and that the button NEVER gets pushed. Fire up a tune, engage the effects for that channel and adjust the input / output levels on your RMX 1000. Also adjust the crossfader to mix as little as possible. Now you have unaffected input on the left side of the crossfader and to the right the RMX 1000. If you're quick when swapping between left and right and have the levels adjusted correctly it will hardly be noticeable.

Drawbacks with this solution is that when the crossfader is in RMX mode, to the right, the input faders are ignored, the sound will go through even if they're on 0. But it's still a better option than using the normal send / return feed since it allows you to apply the RMX 1000 in one move to both channels, not four, without overload and constant adjustments.

Anyone out there with a solution for Allen & Heath mixers?
