ISSUE WITH PRO DJ LINK REKORD BOX 1.5.2

by the way i have 2 x cdj2000's linked to the mixer and that all works fine

Are you saying it wont link?

Please provide more information?

Can you see the decks and mixer in rbx?

have you clicked the link button?

have you shut down all firewalls for testing?

It won't show up with the link icon down the bottom left of the rbx program..
I haven't checked my firewall settings I will do that now and get back to you ASAP...but I did follow the troubleshoot with the LAN port and unchecked the box that pro Dj website said to and it still does not come up with link mode...

No luck..
I changed the firewall settings I did all the exceptions on advanced settings on firewall still nothing..
The cdj and the djm software and firmware is up to date did that all last week.. Unless there is an issue with the program for vista I don't know what else to try... The laptop is fine also I had it checked and services a month ago! Hope I can get it fixed before tonight

im having the same problem, rekordbox doesn't  link with my decks and mixer?

Im have same problem.

i got mine sorted, it was the firewall........ i previously had it set to allow rekordbox but it changed when i installed the new update

Can you let us all know what you changed on your firewall settings ?

i just went through pulses rekordbox help post and tried a few things, including this < http://www.prodjnet.com/rekordbox/support/index.php?ap_lang=en&no=WIN&scr=INFO> but to change my firewall settings

1 go to my computer

2 click on control panel

3 select windows firewall

4 select 'allow programme or feature through windows firewall'

5 scroll down and find pro link nfs server, pro link system manager and rekordbox programme file

6 tick all 3 boxes for each of them

7 select ok at bottom of page

8 turn decks and mixer on/off and re-open record box 

that should get you going, im not sure if this is the correct way of doing it, but it worked for me, if anyone knows of any problems i might be unleashing can you let me know?

It only comes up with rekord box 1.5.2 no pro link nfs comes up or the other one :s software issue I think

Might be a stupid question but have you turned off the firewall completely to rule this out?? 

I'm 95% sure this will be a firewall issue, I always have my firewall off but have just enabled it and looked at the "Allow a program of feature through the firewall"  look at my settings you can see the different versions of rekord box... Remove the old version and allow them on both home and public

@splice, yes, i would try completely disabling the firewall, thats what i done first, so that i knew for sure it was a firewall issue, then change the allow programme or feature settings and once you get those sorted, turn the fire wall back on

If you're a professional DJ, the most important step you can make if you use a laptop based application is to have a dedicated laptop, meaning having a machine with only the operating system and your music software. Never connect it to the internet and never install any other apps, including firewalls or anti-virus software. The fundamental problem is that many DJs in addition to music, use their laptops for everything else, thus running into issues that are difficult to pinpoint and solve. Whether you use windows or OSX, if you dedicate your laptop to one function only, it will run forever, or until your hard disk or some other hardware craps out.

koobah, while you make a valid point, the normal man on the street (after spending £5,000 ) on a 2000 setup,  hasn't really got a further £1000 or £2000 to spend on 2 separate laptops, while the idea is nice, and im sure you'll understand, the wages DJ's usually recieve is a mere fraction cost of a decent setup,  you cant expect someone to purchase a laptop and never connect it to the internet! how would they get songs? and how would they install rekordbox without linking computers and going through a much more tedious process then what your presuming to solve? :S  most problems are seemingly complicated,but once figured out, are actually quite simple and there is no need to have 2 seperate computers, but i agree, 2 laptops would be sexey, but for most people, it wont happen.... :/

The LAN cable to the one pioneer gave and it fixed it haha , also to stop relied box from closing I had to turn off the firewall , thanks all who gave their input , every bit helped :)

Haha I used a longer LAN cable so I could put it on table or something , I guess I'll just buy the lap top stand to go with the road case... Life can go on now haha

@aaron: not sure how much laptops cost over in UK, but here in US you can get a basic laptop for around $300, so it's a small price to pay if you compare the cost of Pioneer gear (a pair of CDJ2000 and DJM900 is around $5k). Personally, I have 2 dedicated laptops that I use for DJing, one primary and the other as a backup. I download all my music using my desktop PC, where I also edit and remix some of the tracks. If you understand the complexity of the hardware and software involved, and the environment where they're being used, a dedicated unit is really a no brainer. Unlike a "do-it-all" machine, a dedicated laptop is also much less vulnerable to constant OS/registry modifications, spyware, malware, etc., which over time cause the system to slow, hang up or crash. Also, every professional DJ and every decent club should have backup equipment, because it just might break down in the middle of the night when you have few hundred or thousand people on the floor. The club I work at has a spare of each essential piece of equipment, from CD players and mixers to DSP's, amps and speakers. Nothing will ever be 100% bulletproof reliable, but at least you'll be able to quiclkly swap it when shit happens and this just an advice from someone who has been in the industry for over 20 years.

@All > I'm in agreement with Koobah - you do need a dedicated laptop for DJing. You don't necessarily need the latest high end MacBook Pro but you should get something quite stable and then tweak it for optimum performance. I think @Koobah covers most of the points I was going to make but if you do have a laptop for DJing only, you can afford to disable the firewalls thus reducing the possibility of link issues.

And yet, i couldn't use the supplied cables so thats not entirely true, some of the cdj's came with faulty cables where if the cable shifted slightly back from the ethernet port, the deck would disconnect, So in my case, I have to use CAT5 cables that did not come with the decks

When you update your software, you'll need to update the rules within your Windows firewall because Windows identifies it as a different program.  Simple as that.
