I did not even try this yet, that sucks that we still cannot do this yet a cheap controller can do it over WiFi, Don't get it
So i'm very excited about the new RB s/w program.. It looks and works better then the last version… SO FAR… BUT!!!! We still can't control RB from our CDJ 2000 Nexus… Why? Why can we do it in HID mode with Serato and Traktor, but not with our own in house S/W? Why do I have to continue to touch my laptop and drag and drop it on to the CDJ? Why can't they just make all the CDJ's that are linked to either a DJM2000 Nexus mixer or a Hub for the 900 and then connected to the laptop control RB? This is a feature I have been asking for and screaming about for yrs now.. Can we make this happen with a s/w update please? Thanks

The software is NOT a DVS; the CDJ still handles all the brute work of playing the music and each player can maintain its own browsing location. This is why it doesn't simply control a highlighted track in the software like Serato does.
Yes we understand that Pulse.. And I wouldn't mark this topic as "ANSWERED", cause we would like it to perform this function.. It would be nice to be able to search for your music using the big screen of your laptop and not on the little cdj screen.. It's a simple request.. Give us the choice of how we want to browse our music.. Some of us are blind and in a dark night club it would be nice to use the scroll knob on the cdjs to scroll through our RB HD on our laptops.. Please put in this request that MANY of us want and have been asking for.. Thanks..
I'm confused. I've been using my CDJs Browse function to load my music from the HD that's connected to the laptop with Rekordbox installed on it, since day 1 of getting my CDJ.
I rarely touch or look at Rekordbox on my laptop except for when importing music or tidying up quantize grids. I just hit the Rekordbox button on the CDJ, view by key, find a track, click it, then it loads on to the deck. What am I missing?
Right Zac but some people like to look at a larger screen, more tracks in your face to choose from so it would deb cool if when in RB mode that they browse knob move through your library on the laptop. The aero has this feature but the Nexus' do not
What they want is to use the CDJ scroll knob to move through tracks and playlists on their laptop screen I believe. I do find myself twisting the knob to scroll on occasion still, like I used to on traktor. Problem is, not sure how they would implement this as the knob is already being used for zoom and beat griding. When you hit rekordbox, naturally you browse via the CDJ screen.
right, when you are in list view, not wave view, it should scroll through the library on the cdm screen along with mirroring this on the bigger laptop screen
like in this video at 1:45 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WGRJlPRVf8
the Aero, a cheap controller can browse the app wirelessly from the knob, would be awesome if the cdj's could do the same
My $0.02: Pioneer is in the business of selling Hardware. See how Rekordbox has always been Free? Well, it's to promote the usage of their Hardware. If Rekordbox turned into a DVS that merely allows you to plug in your laptop to a Pioneer mixer, there is a risk that they lose sales on CDJ's.
Rekordbox is looking more and more like Traktor, which I can understand is confusing a lot of users. It's not meant to be a DVS. It's meant to work seamlessly with Pioneer hardware systems, which require CDJ's.
If ever confused, think of the money-aspect! Pioneer is, after all, a business.
I think you're confused on the topic at hand, lol
we are trying to control RB playlists from the CDJ's, we are not trying to eliminate any hardware at all
Chris.. The reason for this topic is to be able to use the CDJ's to search and select music in RB mode on the laptop.. Just like HID mode on Serato & Traktor.. You can see more tracks on the laptop, and it's easier to see in a dark night club.. I don't need RB to become a DVS system.. Just want to be able to use it with my CDJs controlling it, instead of me having to drag and drop the tracks into the cdj's..
Using two CDJs and controlling one screen (the laptop) doesn't provide that ability to separate what you're doing, which the device screens currently do.
I marked my previous post as an answer because it answers the question; the software is not a DVS and this feature, while it may work on the AERO, will likely not come to the CDJs.
Tough crowd to please.
We've never had it easier in this day and age. When I started out mixing in '89, all we had were a pair of Technics, a mixer, a heavy box of vinyl and if you were lucky, a flashlight.
I'm never more than a couple of feet away from my laptop, and if I have to browse on the puter screen, I just use my hand on the track pad.
Whoops, I was confused with the topic... thanks for the clarification, BriChi
LOL,,, no problem man
Zac, I am very pleased with the product, I and some others I know just think it would be an added benefit, thats all. not like I'm banning Pioneer over not having this feature, lol
@BriChi - Oh don't get me wrong, I appreciate that making life even easier would be a good thing. But bear in mind that it will need additional USB connectivity between CDJ / laptop... Unless they implement it over the fast ethernet port.
:)
exactly, being they did this over WiFi on other units I figured they could do it over ethernet lol
Brichi and Pete are right. This would be the most usefull function to me for now. The competitor with "D" in the beginning has it with its new products and its via ethernet port. Why flagship industry standard cdjs cant have it too? Its nothing to do with DVS, dont be funny....the 2 track crossfading which is implemented now has more common with dvs than that....
Well Pulse just cause you don't find it useful or don't think it should be implemented don't mean that others don't want it or wouldn't like that feature. To me and others its a NO BRAINER to have that feature… And yes it is a feature on the Denon dj s/w and that's not a DVS system.. its a prepare and play program just like RB.. It so we have a bigger screen to search our music. We should be able to control RB with the cdjs.. Its just that simple.. What if I want to have double's? Meaning the same track on #1 & #2 cdjs while a track is playing on my #3 CDJ… All I would have to do is click on my scroll knob to load the track on the #1 cdj and then move over to the #2 cdj and click the same track.. EASY.. Why drag and drop it to both cdj's? why go searching for the same track on a little cdj screen? Please pass along this request that we have been asking for many yrs now pulse. thanks.
Totally agree Pete!
@pete - pulse isn't saying it wouldn't be useful, he's saying rekordbox was designed to be browsed solely from the cdj screen. the benefit being dual location browsing. not everyone with a laptop connected wants to look at the big screen and plenty of users are already used to this workflow, changing it will likely make other people unhappy.
the best solution would be to offer both options via the preferences. navigate via cdj screen or navigate via computer screen. hopefully this could be implemented as i can see both sides of the issue.
@Phil- No where did i say get rid of the search functions and features on the cdj's.. When the RB button is selected then we should have the option to be able to use the CDJ to control our search browser in RB and select the music instead of drag and drop it onto the CDJ's.. The normal work flow for djs in a club is using a USB stick… Or Serato & Traktor in HID mode with a Laptop.. You don't thing the DJs that use RB with a USB stick in the clubs wouldn't utilize a laptop so they can see there music better? Well I would think that some would.. and either way it would be nice for us to have the option of which way we want to use the feature… If we use it at all.. Im sure it can be done very easily with a s/w update to the program and the cdj's
please re read my post pete. i'm not disagreeing with you, i'm saying having both browsing options available would be best.
Wow! What a lot of fuss for a 'nothing' feature! Is it really that difficult to drag and drop tracks onto your CDJs???
Whilst I appreciate that all DJs have slightly different workflows, sometimes the hardware/software will define your workflow... it can't always be the other way around!!
If you're already using the laptop, I don't see what's so hard about using the keyboard shortcuts to toss tracks to the players. If you're not using the players to browse your tracks, what does it matter if you can't load tracks from them without using the current method?
it really doesn't matter, its just another option/convenience from people used to it in serato HID mode, you can use the keyboard in serato too to browse and load tracks but they give you the scrolling from the decks so you can leave the laptop a little further away, maybe save some back pain from leaning over all night, lol.
Personally i don't care either way being 99% of my time is off a USB drive, I just know a lot of people ask for the feature because they are coming from serato and traktor and they are used to is, makes the transition from 1 software to another a little easier
We have only been asking for it for years and we get this response back from the #1 Mod/face of Pioneer.. :( I will stop holding my breath for this simple feature request cause it's not gonna happen..
Brichi, earlier in the thread you said the following - when you are in list view, not wave view, it should scroll through the library on the cdm screen along with mirroring this on the bigger laptop screen
Can't for the life of me get this to work on the 2000 nexus, what am I missing?!
