DDJ-T1 - LED & Sound Failure

Hey all,

Had my DDJ-T1 now for about 3 months and recently (the last week or so) it has started playing up.

I was playing at a house party on Saturday night and noticed that the headphone cue LED on deck D wasn't lighting up when I pressed it, yet Traktor was still recognising that it was being pressed and so the function worked but not the light on the controller.

I carried on playing for about another 30 minutes or so and then the sound cut out completely...Traktor still showed the track as playing but I'd lost all master output.

I turned everything off and rebooted both Traktor and the controller...everything started working again for about an hour and then it all failed again. I checked all the cables and it was all ok...I'm completely clueless as to what might have happened...any ideas?

My set up is as follows: traktor 2 - ddj-t1 edition running on a brand new macbook pro, set up using the wizard. Both laptop and controller were mains powered so power wasn't an issue. Master out was connected directly into a Bose Acoustic Wave music system II, also mains powered. Macbook had nothing running in the background and has nothing on it at all...only my music.

Any help would be much appreciated. And as mentioned before...I've been using this set up for a few months now without any issues.

Thanks in advance!

Mucky

@Mucky > Sorry to hear about the problem.  If the unit still isn't working, my suggestion would be to contact Pioneer technical support (links are located on the right side of this page).  If it DOES work, the problem could have been electrical.

Unfortunately it didn't resolve itself...my controller went into a Pioneer service shop and they said they had to order new parts...still waiting to hear back from them about when it'll be completed...

Still no update from the repair shop...it's been with them 3 weeks now and nothing. I've called every day for the last week. Pioneer have said they will NOT replace the unit until it is deemed unfixable...I asked the repair shop what they've replaced so far and they told me they've replaced everything apart from the master board...which they have now ordered as nothing else works...

Technically speaking, they've now replaced everything except the plastic shell of the unit...SERIOUSLY DISAPPOINTED to have waited 3 weeks so far and still have nothing. Now I have to wait for another week for delivery of new parts that will, in essence, completely refurbish the unit...Pioneer should have just replaced it in the first place.

Not a happy customer at all

I had this kind of happen to me, though I am using the DDJ-S1 for Serato.  controller losing power while plugged in. I was DJing and lost power, like the power supply failed. Controller still lit up except the jog wheels from USB power but no sound from XLR outputs. unplugged it from the back and re-plugged it back in and still nothing. tried different outlet still nothing, then replugged it back in to same outlet and now working. not sure if this is a fluke or a known problem. Thank god I was just djing in the studio and not out.

What is your current set up? Did you have the controller USB connected directly to your laptop? I have multiple USB inputs and so I've connected them via a multiple input USB which has it's own power supply. However, when the controller is plugged in here the lights for play, cue and sync don't light up...they only light up when the controller is connected directly to my laptop.

For the sound drops though...I still have no idea...once it happened once, it did start happening more frequently...

I had the controller connected directly to the MacBook Pro.   you are plugging your controller in with the power supply as well correct?   I think my issue has to do with the power supply, though yesterday I didn't have any issues and the controller was working fine.   I just hope it doesn't fail later. v

Correct, everything had it's own power supply - laptop was plugged into the mains, as was the controller and the multiple USB adaptor.

The first time it happened, I just rebooted and it worked...it was after extended use the next day that it failed the 2nd and 3rd time. I would recommend playing at home or in a studio for a couple of hours and see how it responds, if it drops sound again then take it to a shop.

I just got mine back and everything seems to be working now but it's made me hesitant to use it in public again...so much for plug & play...

@Nathan > If your DC adapter failed, then yes, you'd lose the XLR outs, however the RCA outputs would still function.  On USB power alone, not all functions of the unit are operational.

@Mucky > So was it just the DC adapter or other internal components and have they repaired it for you yet?

@Pulse > a licensed Pioneer repair shop had it for 3 weeks and have told me it is fixed, I haven't had a chance to use it yet though. Despite asking for a detailed report of what wasn't working, the only response I got was that 'the master board wasn't responding' and so they replaced it...this was after they'd already replaced a few other parts. My guess is that they didn't know what was wrong so they just swapped parts out until it worked. They told me my unit is pretty much brand new now apart from the plastic.

@Mucky > Sounds fun.  If it comes back and things aren't working, can you please let me know?  Tx!

@ Pulse, I understand that if the DC failed I would lose certain controls and it seems like it did fail.  though it is working now and I am not sure why it failed or if it was a fluke.  I just wanted to know if anyone else might have had the same problem.

Did some test yesterday and it didn't crash.  I did leave the controller plugged in today and on to see if when I get home the unit is still on working normally.

Could have been a fluke, only time will tell:)
