[CLOSED] Firmware update failed on DDJ-S1, now doesnt work :(

Hey guys, Im using a ddj-s1 and opened itch which asked me to update my firmware. I clicked accept and it froze halfway through, now itch wont recognise the unit.

When I start itch the lights start to flash which is a good sign, but it constantly says hardware disconnected. I tried it on my other computer with windows 7, same result, but in device manager it does recognise the unit.

What im looking for is some way to update the firmware manually without using itch, or someway to factory reset it.

please help!!

@Paul > Sorry, I'm not sure but I've created a ticket to the engineers to find out what it might be or how it can be fixed.

The engineers are a bit confused as to how that would have happened as they haven't released any firmware updates. Could you check on following?

1) For Mac, Please check on MIDI Studio ?

Is there an icon of "PIONEER DDJ-S1" ?

Application > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup > Window ( Pull-down menu of Task Bar )→ Select "MIDI Studio"

2) For Windows, Please check ASIO driver version ?

You can see the version in "Pioneer DDJ Version Utility".

Thanks.

Damn, meant to create a ticket.

Engineer told me to try uninstalling and then re-installing Itch.

Tried uninstalling/reinstalling. Even tried on 2 other computers fresh installs which never had itch on them, still doesnt work. Sometimes when I start up the unit, The light under LOOP/GRID where it says OUT/TAP flashes, and the IN/SET is constantly on.

here is the unit showing up in midi studio

@Paul Zelic > Unfortunately that's the audio driver, not the MIDI portion.

We're looking for this (see attached file below).

Go to Window > Show MIDI Window

Yes, that's the one -- thanks, I'll pass that along to the engineers and see what's next.

I proceeded with the update, but crashed the Itch. I turned off the DDJ and turned on again, but only the LOOP IN LED was lights, and Windows no longer detected the DDJ. Then I opened Itch 2.0.1 again and began to rewrite the firmware. But I think it did not update anything, because the version is still 1.00.

I wonder what happened? I thought that damaged the DDJ!

You SHOULD NOT need to update the firmware; there have been no updates released.

Is that hard to read some instructions regarding installing and/or updating software?

This was exactly the same way with me. Updating the firmware alert by ITCH 2.0.1, the software crashed and the controller was no longer recognized, getting the LOOP IN LED lighted. When the controller plugged in my notebook in which there ITCH 1.8, it began to rewrite the firmware and everything returned to normal. I think if you turn on the controller with the LOOP IN button pressed, it forces the firmware update, if it was unsuccessful.

To DDJ-S1 back to work after bad firmware update:

1)- Turn off DDJ.

2)- Click SETUP in Itch. Go to HARDWARE tab.

3)- Turn on power switch WITH "LOOP IN/OUT" button pressed.

4)- Firmware will auto-start to re-write in DDJ CMOS. DONT TURN OFF COMPUTER AND CONTROLLER TO FINISH THE UPGRADE PROCESS!!! If Itch hang, wait for a minutes.

5)- After the process finish, ALL LEDs will be light on and DDJ is ready to work.

I think Pioneer engineer could develop a little utility app to "force" DDJ firmware write after bad upgrade without need ITCH to upgrade. Help many users with same problem!

Cheers!

Reinstall ITCH or drivers WILL NOT RETURN DDJ TO WORK!!

It's a internal bad firmware write! The only way to do DDJ work again, is rewrite the firmware.

itch won't recognize that my ddj-s1 is plugged in.  I have seen this exact issue now on numerous threads and have tried every possible solution including re-installing itch and drivers for the s-1, trying a different version of itch, different versions of windows, different laptops, and cables.  i have been to serato's and pioneer's sites looking for a solution but have only found the exact same things that i have already done.

@Nate > If you are still having this problem, please contact Pioneer technical support (at the right) for further assistance as it may be a hardware issue.
