[TICKETED] XDJ-R1 Freeze with High Pitch Sound

Hi

 

I have a new XDJ-R1 running 1.08, have not connected any devices, used USB input and CD input only. I have once output the sound into my computer.

Twice in 2 days the unit has completely stopped when tracks from the USB stick were playing on the deck, and yu get a high pitch screech, the only way to rectify is to turn off and on the unit.

 

Will updating to 1.09 resolve this? It really is a great piece of kit if it wouldnt freeze and just work. Disapointed there are still these issues.

 

Can someone help?

Hey all,

I'm sorry that this took so long to be issued, but the engineers have released firmware version 1.13 for the XDJ-R1, which addresses the following issues:

  • Noise occurred when playing some tracks on a USB storage device.
  • Hot cue position was not on the beat position when it was called on rekordbox even if it was set on XDJ-R1 with QUANTIZE ON.

Hi,

I had the same problem last night during a gig running 1.09. Never had that before on XDJ-R1 with older firmware. Finished the night only using CDs because I was afraid that could happen again... that was no fun.

Second problem was that sometimes suddenly the audio of the left deck was on the master out even the channel-fader was on 0-position. I just wanted to prelisten to the track and everybody could hear that. No fun at all. :-(

I'm DJing with Pioneer gear for 15 years now. Very disappointing.

I've got the same problems as you guys.

Having this problems since the very beginning. (after every udate)

Please pioneer! Do something about it!!!!

Every gig is a disappointment now :(

I have the same issue. I think it happens when I choose Vinyl Mode and disable it after a few minutes.
Last weekend I also had a problem that I couldn't load MP3 files to both of the decks

Im having the exact same problem,my r1 is only a month old and freezes with high pitched noise whenever it feels like it,no abuse what so ever,this is extremely embarassing guys when trying to work professionally.Pioneer please help!!!!Has the problem been recognised/identified at all????Please respond ASAP.

Firmware version 1.09.

Remotebox 1.1.4 connected via ipad ios 7.0.4

Track was in USB when it crashed.

Not 100% what was operated last but probably R1.

All tracks played in USB device.

All tracks analyzed by rekordbox.

USB model Sandisk Cruzer Blade 32gb.

Tracks exported to USB from PC using windows 7.

I have only the one USB device.

The freeze has occured 3 times intermittently and not with the same tracks if that helps.

 ・ Which did you operate immediately before freeze or crash? XDJ-R1 or iDevice? I went thru a playlist with the XDJ rotary selector, Stopped on a track hit the rotary selector, and hit it again to load the track to the deck (right deck) and it freezed.

  - Are the tracks analyzed by Rekordbox or not? - Yes

  - What model of USB device did you use? - Sandisk cruzer fit 32GB.

  - What model of USB device did you use? - Intenso 128GB Ultra Line USB 3.0 Stick

Or does it occur with multiple USB devices? thats what i'm trying to tell u its got nothing to do with devices as my wireless has never worked on my first R1, and the other R1 Seized on the first day we got it with the 1.09 firmware with nothing attached to it. And im talking straight out the box updated in the store and used at the club.

Pulse i don't understand how you guys expect us to catch the before and after since my units are both unpredictable, so much so that one unit has been with pioneer in Johannesburg  for 8 weeks, 5 weeks they sent it back and all they did was fix the play buttons, then when i complained, took it back to the shop they wanted to send it back to Johannesburg and its still there,

Another thing is the sound and the way it freezes sounds like its a board or processor problem because i've had my pc do the same thing once or twice when it overheats... and btw, mine freezes about 2 - 3 hours into my set and after the first freeze it happens again every 20 - 30 min.  Im having such a fight with the shop i bought it from because they are trying to get credited by Pioneer in Johannesburg before they give me a new one.  But if the other unit we bought is brand new and it froze 2 hours after we started using it then id say most of em are gonna do it, i was even being shocked by the XLR cables when i would unplug them from the unit after its been turned off and the power lead removed.  another issue in vinyl mode when you spin the platter forward or backwards it has blank spots where the sound breaks, there is a  big difference in my bpm from cd to usb, and also what started happening more and more often before i sent it in my if i was playing from USB sticks, the unit would suddenly just stop and the screen would flash unsupported device.

I get cd 8302  errors when using USB, which according to you guys a couple of years back you would get that on the cdj 2000'S there were 4 reasons, and the last one where pioneer stated that it could happen for unusually long sets on the cdj 2000 when using the link function on the decks and that there was a firmware update to fix that for the cdjs, has pioneer used the same link tech in the R1`s as the 2000's because that comment was posted in 2011, surely you guys would not have put it into the R1's without checking things out.

I spoke to a Rep in Joburg recently, a friend of a friend,  unofficially Pioneer does know bout the problem, but they dunno what to do, all i could do was laugh it explained why they told me my unit had been abused, i have most of the issues everyone else has had and  then some,. and the Pioneer Techs at Pro Audio, all they could say was that the unit had been abused lol,my reply was other than mixing salads, i play 8-9hrs 5 days a week in nightclubs, i can understand wear and tear, but the play buttons only started malfunctioning after the first time my unit seized...

I have juste the USB device : SanDisk SDCZ33-032G-B35 Cruzer 32 Gb USB drive

For information, I bought my XDJ-R1 3 weeks ago, I had no problem when I used it with 2 small playlists.

It is the first time that I put all my tracks (more than 800), without playlist, in the USB key.

When it happened, I had already played 4 tracks and it crashed when I increased the right side fader after I started the 5th track.

I was disappointed to know that I could not have folders to arrange my tracks / playlists created with rekordbox but now that I know it can freeze if I have « too much » tracks, I don’t know what to think about this product…

 

Pioneer can stop to put the rekordbox logo on the box ! It is completely a lost of time and a big possibility to get trouble to use this software with the XDJ-R1 !

Until that Pioneer finds a solution, I guess that I will now use not analysed tracks but arrange like I want in folders and subfolders in the USB key… I will not be able to call any hotcue but like that, I have more chance to do not get any crash…

Just happened again to me here.

 

Firmware 1.08

Mac

Only using USB, no other devices connected, just a USB stick in the unit alone

 

The file playing was a .m4a file. Does this have any consequence?

Hello,

If it can help, i got another time the trouble.

It happens with a specific track which is slow to react when you move the jog wheel.

The display on the xdj-r1 has a delay when you move the jog.

And on this track, when i move the jog quickly forward and backward, after few seconds, it becomes slower and slower until it freezes.

It can freeze completly with the strange noise or just like if the usb has been lost.

When i try to change the track, it displays "now loading".

When i try to open another playlist it displays "waiting" or something like that.

When i active the cd mode and come back to the usb mode, it displays "usb empty".

I switch off and switch on the xdj-r1 and i can get the track on the usb drive.

I tried a slow usb key and a fast in usb 3.0 but the problem was still there.

After that, i tried this file without using rekordbox, it was slow too when i was using the jog but it did not freeze.

I used a program to "encode" again the file and tried it without rekordbox. It was not slow, no delay.

I put the file in rekordbox and i had no delay and no freeze too.

All of that to say that you can try to encode the tracks that freezed your xdj-r1 too.

My file was tested with mp3val and for this program, the file was ok, but it was not really the case for the r1....

I have just had the same problem while Djing on Friday at a local club, probably won't be using the R-1 again, will be sticking to my Aero in future,I also think that it is a Hardware/Processor issue, why else would the whole unit  freeze if was a Rekordbox file problem, plus I only have about 2000 files on my hard drive, the R-1 should easily deal with that, as previously stated I am also annoyed that this unit is so poor, the Dj Aero (which I also use) is a million times better than this, I also think that the Remotebox software is maybe to blame, It just confuses the issue further with is complex layout, Pioneer should have used Rekordbox connectivity from the start, why would you develop your playlist on the Rekordbox program, only to use another program (Remotebox) to control it, I hope pioneer will get to the bottom of this issue, but if it is a hardware problem, I fear that it will be impossible to rectify overnight.

-Did the freeze and crash occur with a specific USB device? - First time it froze using 1.09 , used this hard drive from the start , but i have got others i might try

My own theory is that the problem arises from the load speed through wi fi, I think it needs to be slowed down because the song has appeared on the player before it has appeared on my Device, it should be synced better and more in time, this may prevent the system crashing.

Just another thought? how many people are using M4A (itunes) files on their Rekordbox?, I have only just switched to using iTunes in the last 2 months from using MP3, and the XDJ R-1 never froze before this !!!

Had problems with mine behaving odd, Changed the wireless WLAN Setting from "Auto" to 1 on the unit, had no issues since.
