XDJ-R1 and Ipad connection problems

Hi,

I'm having problems connecting my Ipad/Iphone with my XDJ-R1 unit, although this has worked properly in the past.

I have the most recent 1.09 firmware on the XDJ-R1 unit and the 1.2.0 update to the remotebox app but the two things just won't connect together. The Ipad does recognise the R1's WLAN signal and this shows up in the settings/wifi page. However, when I enter the password I only get the 'thinking' icon and it will not connect.

Please help asap, evidently I was lucky enough to discover this problem while at home - it would have been pretty serious if I was out at a gig.

Thanks, Greg

Well it happened to me at a wedding reception last night, when I was doing sound check it was working (I'm on FW 1.09 and Remotebox 1.2.0) but when dinner started my iPad Air can see the R1 but could not connect to it so I restored to default still no go then I turned off security but still did not work, this is the first time that this has happened to me since using it for almost a year, I hope Pioneer takes a look at this quickly before my warranty expires.

Try switching from the WEP128 Encryption code to a WEP64 one, you will have to enter a new 5 character password on the unit  (from a 13 character one).

Hi everyone, having a similar problem too.. NOT broadcasting WIFI network at all.

Tried upgrading to firmware 1.10, tried changing and resetting the WLAN settings to default, tried rebooting the unit, tried different idevices, tried even using a mac with a software that scans in details all the available networks...... NOTHING, the xdj-r1 does not send out any network..

@ GREG & BTD10: did you solve the problem?

@ ADRIAN: I've tried it, still not working

If your R1 doesn't broadcast a network, try rebooting the unit and manually assign the network to a different channel. In North America, the only 3 channels that do not overlap are channels 1, 6 and 11. For Europe, you may have additional channels which offer no overlapping. If there are other devices operating in the 2.4GHz range, they may interfere with your R1's ability to broadcast or your device's ability to receive. Such interference can come from cordless telephones, microwave ovens, baby monitors, etc.

Have pioneer made any changes to the firmware on the later model XDJ R-1?, because it seems that most people that have problems, bought their unit when it first came out, mine was dated June 2013, and its been nothing but trouble from the start, now it's crashing completely, whether I am connected to my apple device or not, and I Still believe that the R-1 Wireless network is fully to blame, because it is picking up every wireless traffic going and totally confusing the unit, when i switch it on later i am going to disable the wireless network completely and see if that works to prove a point to myself.

Hi Pulse thank you for the response, I have tryed to manually change the channel. I have tryed all channels, waiting 1 minute each time I changed it. The network never showed up. I am bringing the unit to a Pioneer technitian tomorrow, I will keep you guys updated to what the problem turns out to be.

Hi all, I haven't had the time to sit down and try to work out the problem with my R1 Unit recently unfortunately (I am having to use my numark at gigs at the moment).

When I get a chance I will try Pulse's suggestions and report back.

M-T-S, please let us know what the Pioneer technician suggested.

I'm also not entirely sure that my problem is as Pulse suggests? My R1 does broadcast a signal and my ipad/iphone will recognise this. However, I can not then connect to the R1. I have tried chaning the WEP settings, etc but I will try Pulse's suggestion about changing the channel.

Hi everyone. Just got back my R1 from the Pioneer technician. The internal wireless board was faulty and was therefore replaced. The work took 4 working days, 3 to get the replacement delivered from Pioneer (all of this was happening in Milano, Italy) and 1 to replace it. The work was free of charge since the unit was still under warranty.

I still have not tried it but they told me it works fine now. I will write back if other problems show up.

I was unlucky to have a faulty wireless board, but I still have to say that despite what some peolple are saying, I think this is a great peace of gear.

Ciao Ciao

Is there any other way than take it to a technician if i have all the same problems as i can read you guys have??

I am from Europe and have tried all channels and all the things that you guys have done..

Have any of you solved the problem without an technician??

WLAN SETTINGS > OTHERS > CHANNEL NO. Change from AUTO to CH3

Bingo ! Ipad connect.

Well I agree that changing the channel number may work in South America, I may not be the case in Europe, because we have different wireless rules, because of Emergency services etc.

Hi all,

@Kenneth Lindgren, unfortunately I haven't managed to fix mine.

I've now had a good chance to look at my R1. I have updated to the latest firmware, tried changing the network to a different channel (doesn't help) and also tried changing the encryption code to WEP64 (doesn't help) and WEP Open (also doesn't help)! So not good news on my front I'm afraid.

This is very frustrating as my R1 does broadcast a wifi signal (which my ipad can read but not connect to). As a result, I'm pretty sure that it's a software/firmware type issue but if it's not very widespread I doubt that pioneer are aiming to fix the issue in the next firmware update? I think for me this problem has probably coincided with updating my ipad to IOS7, so I must be having some kind of compatibility issue.

@Pulse could you or another Pioneer DJ on the forum let me know if I could restore my XDJ-R1 to it's factory settings and find an older version of the firmware that was working for me? Or would this have the issue that the older firmware updates are no longer compatible with my ipad running IOS7?

I have a xdj r1 with version1.11 and got the same problem. The device is broadcasting the wifi name and i can see it on my ipad. but when i connect to it it fails. After reading up on this thread i tried to play with the channel number. After changing it to a fixed number i can connect to it 1 time only and then it fails again. Even if i switch back to the lower numbers again it keeps failing (same area my home). The problem is that a almost run out of channel numbers and i think after that it is .... Does anyone got a suggestion how to fix this?

Guys - I know some of you may have tried this, but have you tried to forget the connection on your Ipad first when changing the channel number then try and reconnect again?

Happened to me with my ipad and once I forgot the connection on the ipad it reconnected fine. Although I still get a number of other issues still, the wifi has been stable.

Hi guys, I'm also having similar problems. First i did have connection and the blue WLAN light would light up now i get nothing. I can see on my iPhone the XDJ connection and do indeed connect with it, however when i attempt to load it states it cannot identify a pioneer dj product. My iPad which i was using now does not pick up the signal at all.

only fear i have in terms of my investigating and fiddling is the SSID number i sense i may have deleted an digit, its only 8 long instead of 9, i can't be sure but its the only thing i believe i may have messed up myself? Not sure if this is related etc.

Further i have exported my music files and playlists across onto USB stick and when reviewing the stick contents all content is there albeit the artists are in alphabetical order only. Regardless when i connect the USB to the XDJ there are a large number of artists missing? any insights as to why?

Thanks.....very frustrated with this!

@Mike > Please try the following:

  • Set the SSID of the unit to be something simple - just a few characters will do (call it "PioneerR1" for example).

  • Set the security to OPEN (this will eliminate the possibility of problems with the password).

  • If you have other wireless networks and are able to find out what channel they are on, set the R1's wireless to be a channel that the other networks are NOT using; select 1, 6 or 11 as those are the channels that don't overlap with each-other.

  • Be sure DHCP is enabled.

Power-cycle the unit after you've made the changes, try and connect your mobile device or computer. Once you have connected it should automatically give you an IP address and you should then be able to connect through a rekordbox app or program (if your firewall is configured to allow it or is disabled).

@Pulse:

Firstly thank you these changes has meant that using my iPad i am now able to identify the XDR unit just like my iPhone does (preference is to use the iPad).

However this has only got me so far.

after i have "connected" the iPad via wi fi (this works fine), i then open the app rekordbox and tap the "load" section to which i get the following response "No Pioneer DJ Device is found". it then has highlighted in light blue below 2 options of connection guides for XDJ-AERO and CDJ-2000nexus. in a box below it then has my XDJ identifiable SSID number (8 characters). Thats where it ends on that app.

Interestingly enough i still have the remote box app on my iPad and when i connect using this app the WLAN blue light illuminates on the XDJ unit itself! Great! This also via the app enables me to access the folders within the USB stick but again has only the basics and is missing plenty of tracks. Further an alert message comes onto the screen stating " The XDJ-R1 library cannot be found. We recommend creating the library with record box. Free download: wwww.pioneerdj.com"

appreciate your further assistance.

Ahhh... I see where the problem is! The rekordbox app is not compatible with the XDJ-R1, only the remotebox app. You are able to use the remotebox app to control the audio parameters and load tracks which are stored on USB connected to the player, but you are not able to use the rekordbox to remotely load content to the R1.

As for the USB drive, it would seem you haven't used rekordbox on your computer to prepare and export content to the USB drive, which is why it says "no library can be found." If you need assistance with that, let me know.

@pulse, Thanks for the tips have now sorted it all and up and running fine. Key issue was using Rekordbox instead of remotebox. Thanks again.
