DJM 900 nexus + CDJ 2000

Hi there,

I just got my kit DJM 900 nexus and CDJ 2000,I've never used pioneer in my life. I want to know if i can hook them all together and have the entire kit as MIDI working in VDJ. if yes How is that possible. Im no expert in djing could please could you explain step by step how? What extra cables, hubs, whatever it takes to get it work with vdj. I have updated CDJ 2000 to 4.05 and my DJM to 1.21, Im also using mac OS X and Vdj Pro. I would really appreciate your help.

@Abdullateef > I would never recommend anyone MIDI map a Pioneer DJM mixer because the mixer hardware is superior in quality to the software capabilities.

That being said, the only thing you should really look into doing, is connecting your CDJ's with VDJ.

Overall, Rekordbox is the free software that came with the CDJ-2000's and is also available online for free from Pioneer. Rekordbox allows the CDJ-2000's to be used to their full potential and I would highly recommend trying Rekordbox and seeing it's capabilities before using a DJ software application.

If you still feel the need to get VDJ running with your CDJ-2000's, you will need to first set up an "aggregate device" on your Mac, then make sure you connect your CDJ's to your computer via USB cable, and have your other audio cables connected from your CDJ's to your mixer. You will then need to configure your CDJ's in Virtual DJ and make sure you select the aggregate device you created earlier, as well as the proper sound card, and the proper inputs/outputs within VDJ.

An easier method for creating an aggregate device with your Mac, you should download the "Mac OS Tool" from Pioneer on this page: http://pioneer.jp/support/download/dj-e/cdj-2000/

Personally, I think you should use Rekordbox and not bother with another type of software at this time. But if you feel it's really necessary, then feel free to set it up with VDJ Pro.

Don't forget to search these forums first for similar issues if you run into problems in the future. ;) If you can't find what you're looking for or not sure if the issues are related, just start  a new thread. You could also continue posting in this thread if you would like. :)

I just followed procedure and hooked my cdj to vdj it works perfect. The reason why i wanna map my nexus is because I broadcast music through VDJ software, is there a way to over come this ?

@Abdullateef > You could map it and keep all the audio internal, but then you've just spent a fortune on high quality DJ gear to do what a $100 controller can do.

@Abdullateef > Yupp, +1 for what @Pulse said. You'll have more functions if you use the DJM-900 as it's intended purpose. Then you can record a set directly to 3rd part software such as Audacity, and it will be top quality if you use the built in DJM-900 sound card. If you want to broadcast/stream it, you can simply export your saved recording, then play it in VLC Media player, set up a visualizer, then stream to a network. ;)

I solved the problem, I could broadcast by going to vdj advanced settings and having record loop back as built in input, then by an audio jack from the mixer to the laptop.. It works perfect without having my nexus mapped. Thank you so much guys :)

You don't need to MIDI map your mixer in order to have the audio come back to the software for recording or broadcast... using the analog connection which you have now is a lower quality.  Use the recording options instead.

@Adrian > As Foster says up there ^^, I'd just map the CDJs and leave the mixer as is.

@Abdullateef

hey,

i've read this topic, and actually, the staff at virtual also don't want us to midi map mixers.. anyways..

go to settings, go to mappers, select the mapper midi wrapper.. or something along that line. click on 'learn' then slide the slider you want to assign. type up the appropriate command and there you go. repeat for all buttons, knobs, and slider as you want.

again, virtualdj staff and pioneer dj staff all do not recommend this.. so don't expect their help on this.

from this page alone..

according to foster@pioneer dj: "I would never recommend anyone MIDI map a Pioneer DJM mixer because the mixer hardware is superior in quality to the software capabilities."

according to pulse@pioneer dj: "You could map it and keep all the audio internal, but then you've just spent a fortune on high quality DJ gear to do what a $100 controller can do."

@Shahar > Correct, I thought you might have been making commentary on some other aspect of the setup. Thanks.
