DDJ SB2

Hi,

I have hit a wall with my problem. I have been through all the forums I can see and still cannot figure the problem.

I have a mac book pro 10.10.2 with Serato intstalled. I cannot sync the controller(DDJ SB2) with serato. If I download the firmware, unzip it and open, it brings me to choose a language. I choose.....then your DDJ SB is no connected.'

I can see the DDJ in my Midi Setup.

pLease help as I feel I have exhausted all avenues.

thanks

David, I just want you to understand that SERATO is the name of the COMPANY, not the product.

They have three versions of their software:

Intro
DJ
Scratch Live

If you purchase a DJ compatible hardware unit, it will unlock DJ or Intro.

If you purchase an Intro compatible hardware unit, it will only unlock Intro, DJ is a paid upgrade.

Scratch Live has limited availability as it is not designed for controllers; only certain mixers and audio interfaces can use SL.

When you purchased the DDJ-SB2, you paid for the ability to use Intro. If you want to have access to the features of DJ, as previously mentioned, it is a paid upgrade. If you have already purchased an unlock key for DJ then you can continue to use it without needing to purchase it again.

For the time being, you should be able to use Intro without any issues.

@David > There are no drivers required for the DDJ-SB2 with Mac. What is it you're trying to install? Possibly the firmware updater for the DDJ-SB (original model)? There is no firmware update for the SB2 at this time, so I'm not sure what you're running.

As for the issue with Serato DJ, which version are you using?

I am using Serato DJ version 1.1.1.

The issue is is does not recognise the DDJ-SB.

If I go to serato and show package contents, the resources folder holds no drivers.

If I download the firmware for a Mac from the Pioneer site, (the .dmg file) I proceed to install and after the language choice, it says your DDJ-SB is not connected. :(

Is it an SB or an SB2?

You need to update Serato DJ - the latest version is 1.8.1.

Okay, so stop trying to install the DDJ-SB firmware on a DDJ-SB2; they're not compatible.

Next, please try using a newer version of Serato DJ which will actually recognize the DDJ-SB2.

Oh, and in case you are trying to use Serato DJ and not Serato DJ Intro, you will require a purchased license, as the DDJ-SB2 only ships with Serato DJ Intro, although it is "upgrade ready" for the full version of Serato DJ.

With my old version of Serato I have to pay for a new version?

I downloaded the latest 1.8.1. Are you saying that until I update and pay for the new full version, the controller will not be recognised by Serato?

This is bollocks but thank you for your kind help. I expect the controllers to be capable of working with all programs old and new versions. These undefined restrictions are not layed out clearly on the product and have led to hours of trying to sort it out.\

It clearly says on all marketing material, websites and even on the product packaging that the DDJ-SB2 is compatible with Serato DJ Intro and is "Upgrade Ready" to use with Serato DJ. Yes, it is an upgrade purchase to use the Serato DJ version of the software, but your controller would still be recognized by the Serato DJ Intro software.

Think of Serato DJ Intro as the "LE" version of Serato DJ, offering more features and functions than the basic Intro version.

On the side of the controller it has SERATO.....on my computer I have SERATO, a previously payed for version.

What I am being told here, is that the old version is obsolete and the problem lies in my court because I have not forseen that Serato Dj Intro and it eventual 'upgrade' to SERATO is different to that of the pre-existing SERATO.

I dont want a basic into version that I upgrade to the full version for money. I want to use the version I have and payed for already for the controller. What you are saying is I cannot use my controller unless I pay again for Serato?

I have to agree with David's frustration.

I have multiple copies of ScratchLive and multiple SL2s, and recently purchased multiple SB2s to upgrade our setup. Now I can't get the SB2 to connect to Scratch Live, even after I follow the free upgrade at serato.com/scratchlive.

Why is this, and why wasn't there some sort of disclaimer stating the software we already purchased was incompatible with this new hardware?

Furthermore, this software model seems like such a scam, because it appears you have to purchase a license for each individual piece of hardware you own, unless you drop the two grand for a higher-end product.

@Sean > As stated above, the SB2 ships with the ability to unlock Serato DJ Intro. If you want to use the more premium-feature loaded Serato DJ, you have to pay for that license and it's not locked to the hardware.

Scratch Live is an outdated software which was compatible with the SL2, and that SL2 can be used with Serato DJ (as a free upgrade) but the SB2 was never sold as being able to control Scratch Live.

I haven't tested it, but it may be possible to use the SL2 to unlock Serato DJ and the SB2 to control it without having to purchase a license.

There is no scam here, and no disclaimer is needed - neither Pioneer DJ nor Serato are selling or marketing the SB2 as coming with Serato DJ nor being compatible with Scratch Live.
