Rekordbox.. Relocating missing files easily.

Ok I found out how to relocate all missing files without having to reimport my entire library.. Firstly click on file.. Click display missing files. As u will see the tracks highlighted in blue are these missing files. Just relocate the 1st track it asks. After u do this it will then ask u if u want it to automatically find the rest of your files in this location. Click yes.. A popup window will then appear showing how many tracks is being relocated.. It's actually quite fast :) hey presto!

im having the same issue, not working for me either. I open rekordbox, double click a track, says its missing, so i relocate but no option to automatically find the rest of the library...it will take ages to do this individually

You have to go into the File menu up at the top of the screen and select the "Display Missing Files" menu item (don't double-click an individual track from the regular Rekordbox screen).

From there it will pull up a listing of your tracks that are missing. Choose one and then it will ask if you want to link other tracks in this location.

I've gotten as far as locating the tracks but they are all greyed out and I cannot select, please help.  I paid someone £300 to help me with this issue before and it's happening all over again.  Apple has turned all my files into MP4's as well.. I've worked so hard and spent so much time on this I don't think I can take much more of this.

That person got a payday!

The reason you can't select them is a hiccup with the way the Finder works; just use the quick-preview function (select the file, press the spacebar), then you can click OK to have that selected track matched for the missing file.

I dont understand how 1 minute they are all fine the next minute all gone & i have not even touched any settings etc  !! Gutted ;-(

In the Display Missing Files dialog you have to select all files to trigger the automatic search. If you select just one file and relocate that, the automatic search for the other files will not be triggered.

Luckily, the automatic search works well, it will also traverse up the directory hierarchy to find the other files, i.e. if you move a whole directory tree this method will still work. I was afraid I might have to do this procedure for every subdirectory in the tree I had moved.

I moved my iTunes library to a new computer (drag and dropped all my lists because my old computer lacked space and i had music on both internal en external drive)

I've moved the rekordbox library so every list inside rekordbox followed, worked fine.

BUT i can't relocate about 4000 songs. When i select all (file -> display missing files -> relocate) I can search for the first song. find it. but i't doesn't find the other ones that's now located in the same iTunes folder.

When i search manually in rekordbox i can relocate song by song. But come on, 4000 songs. Does anybody have a fix for this?

@Marcus Couple of questions:

- Just to clarify, before moving to the new computer you had part of your iTunes library on your old computer's internal disk, and part of it on an external disk, but now you've merged your whole iTunes library into the one place on the internal disk of your new computer?

- Do you think the 4000 broken songs in rekordbox are the ones which were originally stored on the external disk?  Or are they the ones which were on your old computer's  internal disk?  Or a mixture of both?

Either way, it might be worth trying my tool which is designed to solve this kind of problem, while preserving any cue points or loops you've setup on your tracks.  It will work as long as the file names have stayed the same as they were before, and all of your music is now in one central location, i.e. in your new computer's /Users/You/Music/iTunes folder.

Have a look here https://github.com/edkennard/rekordbox-repair and let me know if you have any questions

@Marcus > You could use the location of one song to automatically relocate ALL of the missing songs provided they've all moved in the same scope; the parent folder changed and all child folders are in the same order as before.

Having a bit more information would certainly help.

I gave up and started again. Out of 5736 tracks that I'd moved I could only locate 320 of them using the batch locate. Once I had batch located it wouldn't offer to look for others in the same location again, even though they were all there. Really labourious, but easier to delete and add again than relocate them one by one.

In other news: Why do you not have the grouping field from iTunes? This was how all my DJ tunes were organised.

ive given up as well now - All my tracks are in but my folders i spent nearly 2 years organising are not pulling the tracks in !! Gutted - I think Pioneer need a quick fix short cut button for this - seems to happen to lots of people !! I still have the XML files but my laptop has gone back now so just left with a load of tracks that need sorting again from scratch / key etc - If the admin has any other ways of dragging in my XML files may b that might work ;-(

@Dean > If there were multiple "moves" then the batch relocation will only work to find one group at a time. For example, if the parent folder changed from "Music" to "My Music" then anything beneath it would be found all at once, but if you allowed iTunes to manage the file locations and made a change to some of the artist names, then multiple songs would have changed locations as their parent folders (the artist name) would have changed, thus making it impossible to batch relocate more than what was within that one folder. You would have to repeat the process for each folder.

@Karl > You can import an XML file, just enable that within the rekordbox preferences.

This has been driving me crazy, but I think I just figured it out.  I use iCloud and all my missing files are in the cloud with the cloud download icon next to them and are greyed out.  I can open those files in the finder and then that forces a download and then the icon goes away and the files are now on my local disk.  At that point Rekordbox can load/relocate them.  To fix this for all files:

  • for each folder where you have music, open the folder in the Finder, select all files using Command-A, right click on one of the files and choose "Download now".  That will download all the files from iCloud.
  • Repeat for each folder where you have music.
  • Go to Rekordbox, open "Show missing files".  The list should be almost empty.

You have to add folders to the list of folders in which it can relocate files.

Preferences/Advanced/Database/Auto Relocate Search Folders

click Add

Add all the folders (not high level, the actual folders).

Select any file in the collection with the ! next to it, autorelocate will appear in the context menu (mouse's left btn).
