DJM-900NXS2 Problem with FX

Hello,

I've receiveed my new DJM-900NXS2 a few days ago, and already updatet it to ver. 1.07. But there is still a problem with the FX section.

After using the FX section a few times with the x-pad, the FX section cannot be shutdown again ( only due to a complete restart of the mixer ), the FX-section also triggers itself spontaniosly, and cannot be shut of.

Is there a solution for this problem ?

@Jip > I wonder if the x-pad still registering a "touch" - does it persist if you change the effect or source channel?

Yes, the x-pad is still registering a "touch", and I can still change the effect type, en the source channel. ( sometimes when I change the source channel to mic the effect is also active on the master output ). but the thing is, i cannot shut off the effect by using the blue button on the right side, under. The button keeps flashing.

That button would only be effective if the effect had been activated via the on/off button, if it's continuously registering a touch to the x-pad, it could be there was a manufacturing defect.

If you power-cycle the mixer, does it ever start itself before you touch it?

After power-cycle of the mixer I've not seen that it starts itself, only after using the X-pad. I've just tested and filmed it. When the problem is there, the lower half of the X-pad is not responding anymore ( only the upper half 1/16, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2 ) I can still use the arrowed beat buttons under the X-pad to enter the other selections 3/4, 1 etc.

@Jip > Unfortunately this sounds to me like a manufacturing defect, but I'm going to pass this to the support team to see if they believe a firmware update might resolve your issue.

If you engage the x-pad, it will make the EFFECT ON/OFF button blink. The question is more "is the x-pad engaging itself without you touching it."

No worries - thanks for reporting back. Better to know it's working properly than to start hearing about a bunch of brand new mixers with problems!

Today I went back to my authorized Pioneer Dealer, and it looked like the foil of the Xpad has came loose of the buttons underneeth. They exchanged the mixer for a new one and this one works fine.

So absolute great service from my Pioneer Dealer.

The x-pad is very very finger sensitive. When you put your finger very close to the x-pad, but don't touch it, then the beat effect already active.

I've got a ticket open with the engineers, I'm awaiting their response.

Hi since after updating to 1.07 i have had a issue with the helix effect with pitch being at max when you turn it on with the button, until you touch the x-pad it will adjust to where your finger is but as soon as you release it goes back to max. im sure before the update the pitch would be in the centre on you turn it on and would stay at the point you adjust it too. could you please confirm how it is meant to be.(all other effects and xpad values work ok) many thanks

also i have just noticed a clip sound when using the HP filter colour effect but only when the parameter knob is at 2 o clock. (cdj connected digitally)  im just letting you know and sure these are just teething problem and will be sorted in updates quicking as it was the some when the 900nxs was first released.

@simon > What exactly would you say is a "clip" sound?

Hi Pulse, it is a blip of noise before the filter comes in. (it's NOT clipping as in over driving)

So the parameter knob is already at 2 o'clock and you engage the HPF CFX?

yes it seems to be find in other positions but when at 2 o clock and you turn the channel effect knob you get an unwanted noise before the resonance kicks in,

Hi Pulse, i have been playing with the filter color effect again (now updated to firmware 1.09) and there still seems to be issues with the HPF. now it seem that the effect does not engage until about 1-2 O'clock and there is a unwanted sound where the effect starts and feels totally unresponsive from 12 to 2 O'clock.

it doesnt matter where the parameter knob is but i have been leaving it at 12 O'clock and expect the effect to act like on the 900Nxs.

at the moment the HPF just isn't smooth or sound as nice as on the 900nxs does.

i have tried this on all channel and it's the some, also its only the HPF. the LPF and other effects sound good.

also with regard to the vinyl break beat effect i have found it sounds no where as good as it does on the RMX1000?

do you know if these are common issues that will be address soon?

many thanks

As this is the first complaint of it, all I can do is pass the information to our product team for investigation. They may have additional questions for you.

@Simon > The engineers have replied:

Since DJM-900NXS is specifically designed to be used in clubs with large speakers, the level is subtly and gradually increased when turning up the knob. These features are quite different from the behaviors of DJM-900NXS. This is why this user does not hear the effect from the headphone until about 1-2 o'clock. However, the effect sound would be heard from large speakers at clubs.

They would also like to know what kind of sound you mean when you say "there is an unwanted sound where the effect starts"?

@Simon > Also, a note regarding the Helix effect:

Because Helix effect is a new feature, many users may misunderstand the behavior. If you read carefully page 17 of the DJM-NXS2 manual, this behavior is normal:
http://docs.pioneerdj.com/Manuals/DJM_900NXS2_DRI1300A_manual/?_ga=1.147440119.1169354987.1455868074

As this user turns the Level/Depth knob to max, when he releases his finger from the X-pad, the output sound will return the pitch to the point pressing the Effect button on.
"Turning the [LEVEL/DEPTH] knob fully right fixes the output sound."
"X-PAD: Set effect time to alter pitch. Remove your finger from X-PAD to automatically to the set effect time."

Helix effect works like a loop effect, but it is somewhat tricky because it does not work in the same way as other effects.

Hi today I've experienced the same problem reported in this thread: I've pressed the x-pad with the vinly break effect select and from that moment I was not able to turn off the effect anymore. The blue button was flashing and I was able to change the effect type but the only way to restore the the normal functionality of the mixer was to restar it :-(

Firmware version is 1.09 and the mixer is connected to 2 cdj2000nxs2 using the ethernet cables. The mixer was connected to my mac using the usb cable and I was recording a mix.
