DJM-S9 audio drop-out's and glitches

Setup -

2x Technics 1210 turntables with Shure 447's

1x DJM-S9

Macbook Pro 13"  2012, 8gb ram, 500gb hard drive, Serato 1.8.1, Yosemite OS X.

(previously used SL2, DJM-909, Oyaide phono's running Scratch Live)

Got the S9 the day it was released. Nearly every single gig i do (3 club nights per week) i will have at least one audio dropout / glitch. i Never ever had this issue with my 909 & SL2. Latest firmware and software installed. Have tried everything, re-install all software, drivers and firmware for both mixer and serato. Changed IEC power supply, numerous usb cables. The glitch is no more than 1/2 second long and happens randomly. It never crashes serato, this is why it leads me to think it's an issue with the mixer. I have analysed every track in serato, no "lightning bolts" or poor files.

I feel i spend my nights dj'ing now, just waiting for the crash to happen.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Ray.

Yes this happens to me as well...probably within the first 30 minutes of every gig that I've played.  I am running the latest firmware - 1.06.

buffer was always set to 5. moved to 10 for a few weeks, still getting the glitches. back to 5, still getting glitches.

I have 2 dj buddies, we all work a different night in one certain club. i'm the only one with problems. we all have the S9, all with the same macbook pro etc. i have narrowed things down to either the serato software or the actual mixer itself.

@Ray > Would it be possible to get together with those other 2 DJs and try swapping out computers and mixers?  This would help us narrow down what the problem is.  If they have no issues on your S9 then we know it's not the mixer.  If you have the same issue on THEIR S9s, then we know the problem is either your MBP, Serato DJ or possibly a driver or setting.

My buffer is set to 2. I've been using that setting on the Rane 62 with no dropout issues.

@Paul > Try adjusting the buffer size to see if that solves your issue.

@Mark. I can do this yeah, but not for live gig's i'm afraid. I will take my setup to my mate's tomorrow and have a mess around.

But, as i stated earlier, one gig i can have no glitches, the next night could be 2 or 3.

I have sent the same issue to serato, and attached a crash log for them to have a look, just incase it's a serato issue.

Thanks, Ray.

@Ray: do you use Pitch-N-Time with Serato DJ? If so deactivate it and see if the glitches are still present...

@Alexander. Don't use pitch n time mate. Only use the Fx sections and the SP6 samples

Update  -  Still got the drop-out / glitch problem at the weekend. Took the night off yesterday and wiped my macbook hard-drive. fresh install of yosemite, fresh serato 1.8.1 and also software/firmware for mixer. Gigs on this Fri & Sat. will update the outcome on Sunday.

NB - never managed to re-create the drop-out's with my friend's set-up but it never dropped with mine either as it is very random when it occurs. Nearly every time it does it, it's after i've been dj'ing at least 2-3 hrs.

Same problem here.

Early 2015 MBP, 8gb ram, 121 flash storage. El Capitan 10.11.2, Serato 1.8.1, and S9 firmware 1.06. Used with 2 technic 1200s. Music is kept on external HD. The ONLY thing on this Mac is Serato and related drivers.

Even after reset I have jerky waveforms, (CPU meter is nowhere near an overload.. never reaches a 5th of the way to the max), and occasional dropouts. Sometimes for a second sometimes up to 5. Computer is restarted before every gig. Also, no P-N-T.

I'm running into the same problems running Windows machine. I even took my Mixer Back and got a second DJM-S9 it didn't glitch for a little bit then started up again once I started deejaying a little longer. I unplugged the turntables and it happens if I just leave the mixer on no turntables attached no grounding wires or RCA cables attached. just USB cable and laptop on internal mode. Happens on all 3 USB ports on my laptop. I'm running an i7 64 Bit processor with 16GB ram and a 970 Graphics card 7600 rpm 1TB hard drive with usb 3.0. my own post on the issue can be found on these forums and on Serato's as well. Could be an internal problem with serato, but it doesn't do that with my SL box. Damned shame because I love this mixer otherwise and am forced to take my old DJM-909 and SL box instead or forced to use "the old Unplug the usb cable and plug it back in while shouting someone out on the mic to cover my actions" LOL Since apparently the issue resolves itself when you unplug and replug in the USB cable.

2022 and i am experiencing drop outs on my s9. i thought it was the new os monterey which i had updated to (downloaded the new driver and also updated the firmware on mixer). I recently upgraded my early 2015 mbp 13" ssd with a 1TB 970 evo. i downgraded the machine to now running Catalina, still getting drop outs so i think i have eliminated it being the OSX. I'm using the s9 with 2 cdjs (900). ive also tried the setup with a powered usb hub. still getting drop outs. PLEASE HELP!!!

All issues resolved! I updated my drivers a while ago (couple years ago and then recently upgraded them to the latest versions) and also updated Serato as well as installed a new 1TB solid state drive and the mixer has worked fine ever since. I actually love this mixer now and probably will pick up an S11 eventually. I did break the Crossfader off a few months ago and replaced it and the volume faders with infinity faders. It was probably because my kid leans on it too hard sometimes other than that it's been great. - DJEmir.com
