DDJ-SR glitching and acting strangely

Tried to add this to another support topic but apparently it was closed by a mod because people are upset their controllers aren't working.

At some point in playing, my right deck (typically my FX 1 button) will begin activating all of the other FX buttons and the tap tempo button. My slip buttons become active and I can't access my cue buttons.

I've upgraded Serato and the firmware, and changed USB cables.

To all users who are following this topic, we have an update for you:

Thank you for your patience as our moderator team closed all of the forum topics where the DDJ-SR issue was being discussed. This was a temporary measure to not add any additional information which could further confuse our support teams. With comments from many users, some from the same users posting to multiple topics, it was already difficult to sort out the issues and attempt to diagnose the variety of concerns.

We apologize for the inconvenience you have experienced with your DDJ-SR not working properly. Our support staff and product managers have reviewed all available information and have concluded that as the issues are not all identical and as they occur across a variety of computer hardware and software configurations, there is insufficient information to draw a conclusion to a specific fault common to all DDJ-SRs, nor a fault within the product firmware(s). As such, we would like to direct all of you to please contact Pioneer DJ technical support in your region to have your DDJ-SR serviced.

We have opened these topics again for discussion or additional questions you may have for us, but please remember to post in accordance with the forum Rules & Regulations.

(The same message will be posted to as many of the DDJ-SR issue threads we can find, sorry if you are subscribed to multiple topics and receive this same information several times.)

Role here is to help with issues and or find solutions, not close things unless a topic is cross posted or the like.  Before we elevate this to tech support, a question.

Are you hitting any keys when this happens, meaning do you type in shortcuts or tracks and then you get this issue?  Serato has a ton of key stroke shortcuts  that can trigger things so I just want to know what is happening around this problem so I can better direct you for a solution..

I usually have all my FX selected for deck 1. I've done this for a while, and its usually just when I select the FX 1 button on the right deck to trigger the effect. The decks will flash (like at power up) and all of the FX buttons on the left and right deck will activate at once (would be kinda cool if it was meant to be that way).

I played for an hour yesterday, not using any of the FX on my right deck at all, with no problem. I want to try with the Serato remote also, with the re-assignment, but I won't be able to until Monday.

I rarely use keystrokes on my MBP. At most it's usually the censor button. I do everything from my SR.

With mine it is with the sync button, but I have realised that it happens to almost all the buttons and even the led lights act strange. When I have my sampler light and press a key pad button anyone, it alomatically starts the both tracks from the beginning on each deck. The unit is not usuable after this keeps happening, and as I read the forum, a lot of us are getting this and not only on the ddj sr unit.

I usually don't use the computer software to type anything, and use the controller to select and paly all tracks so it isn't a computer error, all usb cables also work fine and works well with the cdjs so I know it isn't at fault.

@Ray > Did this happen after updating the SR's firmware to the latest version?

Mark,

It began last week on the immediately previous firmware and still occurs after I've updated it.

News ? Good news ? Nothing ?

Passed 2 weeks and nothing about the big problem...

No one has managed to solve the problem ?

I changed the Mixer assembly board as well as the right assembly board thinking it would solve the problem, and it didn't. It has to be something in the unit. Changing the board was an expensive experiment and still didn't solve the problem

Is this going to be a covered repair or do we all have to pay for these out of pocket?

I don't have a pioneer agent in my country and have carried it to an unauthorized agent and they changed all the boards on the unit and it didn't fix the unit. The unit has the problem on more than 10 different laptops I use, and any computer I use.

What do you advice. All the boards have been newly changed and still the problems exists. I think those of you who carry it by the agent for repair will do the same, pay for the new parts and the problem will be solved temporarily and then return

it's kinda bullshit..

for a year and a half works perfectly..no freeze,no problems,nothing.

i make that stupid firmware upgrade and everything is fu**ed up for no reason.

that's not fair...

Now you come here and tell us,nobody cares,is not our fault,go to service and repair that piece of ....

Can you get information from the team in Japan on which part to change. Because I changed all the board and it didn't solve the problem. You going to send all these people to the technician who will do the same and get the same problem. In avoiding all this can you tell us what needs to be changed or repaired. Because I am sure it isn't the board, and all the knobs are working. Maybe I should change the usb or the computer.

@Ray > If you are under warranty, there would be no fee associated with the repair. Any repairs done outside of the warranty period may be subject to a repair fee, however that is at the discretion of the repair facility.

@rballiram > And that's exactly why it's difficult for the engineers to isolate the issue; it's not the same problem for every SR owner across a variety of computer configurations.

Unfortunately nobody here is authorized to provide you with technical repair instructions, as if we were to post information on repair, modification or disassembly of a product, a user may further damage their equipment or possibly injure themselves, and Pioneer DJ could be held responsible. You'll have to contact a technical support department, even if it's not in your country, for further information.

@busy2k > I'm sorry, but in your case specifically, they feel the failure timing was coincidental, not caused by the firmware update. Clearly this message doesn't say "nobody cares" because there were many Pioneer DJ employees and service members working to find the cause of this issue.

So today I decided to get some practice in, and figured I just wouldn't use those additional FX. 10 minutes in, I go to adjust the pitch selector to +16 and that deck switches to beat grid mode. And again, my cues and all are screwed. Really not happy with this or the response to everyone's issue being "go get it fixed on your own dime".

I've never taken this unit out of the house, and it's got a dedicated space in my room that never sees food, liquids or smoke. What's even worse is that I've been really contemplating moving back to vinyl and getting a pair of PLX-1000s.This doesn't help my decision.

@Ray > A hardware failure is a hardware failure, it doesn't need to have a spill or rough transport to cause it.

I changed all the hardware in the unit already or the main assembly boards and it didn't fix the prolem, which cost more than 300us, I now have to ship it back to the usa for an agent to check it again, and I am sure it isn't hardware. When you guys pay and get yours back tell me what the issue was.

I think mine is under warranty @ thomann.de

they offer 36 months warranty..

i don't understand how pioneer offer just one year warranty.. In Europe for electronic devices minimum warranty is 2 years..

@ pulse

If you want to discover cause of the issue..let's make a deal.

I will send you my broken controller and you send me a new one, with no issue, and you make the experiments on that broken controller :)))

and maybe tech guys find out the cause of the fault.

Deal ?

I just had a thought...

Which version of Serato and which firmware is everyone using?

I'm on FW 1.8 and Serato 1.9.1

There has to be some commonality here. Your disregard for that is disturbing, but when you look at it, everyone has a similar issue. Unless these devices are designed to fail after a year and a half, something is causing problems.

using serato dj 1.9.1 but it happens with virtual dj and recordbox dj.

it has to be in the firmware because as I keep saying I replaced all the hardware already. I using the latest firmware
