Question, Do you reps even read through what we post?

sometimes it dont seem that way, and that not a good sign.

As of now im pressed to rebuild my whole wavetable with over 3000 tunes.

instead of just dragging my old lists from different sources.

i can tell you this is a large nail in the Rekordbox coffin.

if i get anymore trouble i start using cd records again, even if it means lugging crates around. in ten years time i had FIVE hardwarefailures. and 25, EIGHT!.

but it was simple to fix, if i had my covers i could reburn the discs if the quefiles were missing.

1. Need no analysing (Waveforms present from the beginning)

2. Easy to fix errors

3. Somtimes even sound better than digital mp3 files on usb (Identical track)

So why should i continue to support Rekordbox, when my Backup were corrupted and my main collection are non-existent in Rekordbox.

I have collected all current music from all my sources. but its like Itunes, a real mess.

IS THERE A WAY TO REPAIR THIS?

Hey Martin. Though I cannot really help you (not a techy but much more of a DJ), I do feel the need after reading this in the train to respond. You were lucky they didn't come up with the 'it's free software' argument but that used to be the response. Free software so we are lucky to get a response at all.

We (me, a couple of other users) never ever finished the argument of paying for the whole workflow but I am quite sure I did. So it seems they only removed the use of that argument, it is still their way of thinking. You don't pay for their houses and food, so it's all a happy happy project. Well. As your story proves: it's not. And we are dealing with a monopolist here unless you want to drag a whole suitcase of hardware to the clubs where this equipment is already installed. Probably for less money then we payed for it. That's how the world turns these days in the free west.

Having said that I can share what my experience with pioneer has led me to believe how to move forward best, because the guys here live in the world of office automation. They'll wait for the next release if it is anything close to an incident. Ruling a potential market called The World, most 'calls' below 200 users are an incident. I think. Because I don't know that. They don't do that kind of information.
So moving forward meant in this case: give up the argument of paying for anything and realize that you need to be self supportive. Don't let them know what goes wrong because knowledge equals power and more money. And that seems to be the only reason to setup such a hip 'forum' where we can share and they don't.

My share: I made sure to buy a powerful computer, setup with raid drives, with a centralized folder with my collection in it. I manage the collection in Media Monkey and use an old iTunes plugin to import only playlists in RB. RB is only a tool and I try to stay away from using it as a solution because it is not. It is a free tool that breaks every now and then. Media Monkey is solid.
I have a laptop that is manually synced with a software application called always sync (payed version, $ 25,-), I have an archive that is not on my laptop so my 'actual collection' has never been bigger than a 100GB.
I make automatic backups of the music folder and all library and settings folders from Media monkey, Rekordbox and Serato library and settings files. Every couple of months when I have time I get some of the files out of the backup to test if it's still a working Backup. And last I have a double of every track I buy or get when I buy it. I can't remembering ever having used it because they are raw. Before I changed the filename to my likings (Media monkey), analyzed the tracks (Mixed in Key) and changed the ID3 Tags to show up in all software (f.e. the album artist and artist are being used as the same in different software so I make sure they are the same in mine. I use the comments for BPM and key through Mixed in Key settings).

I've setup my set so that it can connect to my laptop and main PC so I randomly use the one or the other to try out mixes. That way I hope to find out in time if anything went wrong with the collection on either of these machines.

I AM really happy Pioneer got their (free) sync manager to work because now I have two dedicated and cloned rescue USB drives that only need to sync the difference since last sync. That saves up a lot of time and stress.

I think you can immediately see this setup has cost me a couple of years to develop so I don't expect you to start doing the same after reading this. Pioneers all in one blah is a very half baked solution so: don't believe the hype.

Now that they have begun to be software vendors (PioneerDJ), their focus is probably not on this section anymore so I think support will be worse. What I've noticed after a busy start, is that users stay away again. Simply because it's kind of useless hanging around here. I think hanging around on local fora setup about DJ tech stuff will make you much wiser in the digital world. And usually that is where people will share solutions and good tips.

Good luck -seriously- after having so much bad luck. At least you've had that and it seems unlikely to run so out of luck twice in a short time. Look around for a friend or local guy who is good with IT networking and workflow solutions. They don't care about the differences of application and they may think of something that will help you prevent disasters in the future.

And last but not least: though RB has become quite good and stable, I bought a twelve core because every now and then I re-analize the whole actual collection on playlists simply because that seems to be so inevitable in these Ice-ages of digital DJ-ing and Mammoths like pioneer support fora and rekordbox updates.

Well that was a handful of text, but useful nonetheless ;D

I went to the computerstore adn bought me a new setup, with 8TB Nas storage thats going to be raided and only dedicated for Rekordbox and Music. The whole setup cost me an arm and a leg, but i have invested to much money just to let it go to waste. almost 40K as of now, including Software, Hardware, Licenses, Music and so forth.

My PA Systems and Lights / effects are NOT included in this calculation.

I now know how im going to proceed. i used to do this but got tired of the hassle of the workflow.

1. Collect every tune i have that i know i played with Rekordbox

2. Clean and control the MP3s data with MP3 val and MP3Tag or Tag n Rename (Mostley for Wavefiles) and Batch Normalise with DBPoweramp.

3. Analyse every file in Mixed in Key so i get all the digits right this time.

4. Rather use Lossless files with no compression that otherwise take strain on the onboard cpu of the mediaplayers (CDJS)

5. Make several Backups and keep the folder-trees of the music intact in case of a crash. What i mean is, that i have my folders exact the same in "EXPLORER" as i have in Rekordbox. so if the TSHTF i just have to reimport and reanalyse the files. cause i dont trust Rekordbox no more. Better to be on the safe side. i loose to much money if i cant play anyways.

6. Make a RAW backup of the trax that are in the collection (Itunes-style)

7. Check my Hardware on regular basis, Harddrives, Usbsticks and SDcards, and be vigilant if something happens.

This was the last time i fell for that trick . . .

Free software?

Well if you buy Pioneer-gear for 15K i hope its working right out of the box, especially when the sell the gear on points of using RBX.

And on a side-note, after what happened to me this weekend id rather have purchased RBX so i could have put the heat on the techs bigtime. Just like with Appstore!

(And now on with figuring out the outdated Android (free) Rbx app...I need it to work with the same folder as the up-to-date media monkey app but Android 6.0 has a user rights management system and Rbx app does not. With no expected update it seems noobs need to only use the onboard storage. Sure Haha.)

P.S. I think we actually DID pay for RB.

This isn't to to with the software being "free" or not, we still want to make sure all customers receive proper support.

@Martin > TL;DR > I scanned through your text and it seems your workflow is to blame. It doesn't even sound like you're exporting properly. The only referencing to "exporting" you make it with regards to getting the audio from rekordbox to some other software, not to a USB / SD -- you mention using Finder / Explorer to put it on those devices.

@ Pulse, nah nah man you got it all wrong.

I use Rekordbox as it should be used, always have. i of course use "Explorer" to explore folders as it goes much much faster. then when i find something i like i make a "collection" folder, collect all the tracks and put them in my master collection that goes into Rekordbox.

Exporting properly?, well if i get my music where its suppose to go i think im doing the right thing.

But i have started over, as Rekordbox is just a tool, nothing is safeguarded by it and can crash anytime.

The only thing that can happen now, is that when RBX will fail some time in the near future. i only have to reimport my collection and reanalyse, instead of loosing every data and folder structure as well.

As long as i have the playlists in textformats, the structure of the folder and the music. its all good. may take a while. but im never going through this again!

You know that rekordbox automatically creates and stores the last 3 uses as backups, correct? That way, if you have a crash or make a mistake, you can recall one of the previous sessions.

I'm sorry, but it still sounds to me like the problems you've been experiencing are not due to the rekordbox software or CDJs you're using the exports with, but rather the other changes you're possibly making to the drives and data therein.

Of course it has to be an enduser problem, as always, dont matter if the person has been along for the ride since LAUNCH!

Ive been using Pioneer Products since CDJ 500 II LTD, so i believe i know my stuff, including RBX, ive red the manual several times.

But as the problem started with 4.1.2, im reverting to 3.3 that never ever gave me any problems, and im cutting all internet-connection to kuvo or any other source that feed Rekordbox. Its going to be a barbone-system.

Whats an update good for if it sabotage your workflow and end-result

One more thing, Rekordbox behaves wierd, as it retag and rename certain files. other just end up as duplicates. so  his has been going on for a while with earlier versions as well. So this duplicationbug is far from new. I just havent dug around in the folders of RBX on my drives as i do now.

i know this for a fact cause i clean all my tracks. theres nothing in the tags or filenames that goes in that i dont want there.

I have also been using Pioneer DJ gear since the CDJ-500-II's and I've been a moderator for the forums since 1999. I can tell you in my 17 years of experience that the majority of issues regarding audio data files come directly from how the users manage them. I'm not saying this to shift the blame to you, there certainly are a lot of places that the software we use can make unexpected changes.

But I can tell you this -- rekordbox does not rename tracks, nor does it move them. Yes, it can update the tags and contents therein, but it's likely something else you're doing in your workflow which is causing the problems you're experiencing.

Well FYI, let me write this to put an end to all squabble and get the record straight.

Ive used RBX since launch, but got more serious around 3.3, since then it has been running flawlessly. but with the "HICKUP" i got as of late. i run a few checks just to be clear.

1st. RBX do make duplicate files, and a lot a matter of fact. Out of 3000 tracks i got 170 duplicate wavefiles. Thats quite big storagespace that go to waste.

2. Over 200 tracks were renamed or had garbeled info in tags or in filnames.

Im certain this "BUG" has leaped over to later versions of RBX, and resides in the code.

I now have a huge mission to get all my music in order, and i will start from square one to tidy up this heap of a mess.

i will get back to you when its done, and see if RBX will destroy my collection once more that i now suspect it will do, like in the past.

The only way for rekordbox to have duplicates in your collection is if you moved or copied the file and imported it again.

The only way for rekordbox to export duplicates to your export drive is if you have changed some aspect of your file and exported the song to your drive a second time.

These two statements exclude the recent 4.2.0 release which did accidentally create duplicates.

Rekordbox corrupted my SSD too. Had the same issues as OP but i exported correctly.

PIONEER ,,,DONT LOOSE YOUR CUSTOMERS LIKE TECHNICS DID WHEN THEY RELEASED THE SL-DZ1200 AND FIXED IT WHEN IT WAS TOO LATE AND CUSTOMERS TURNED TO OTHER SOURCES.

@Tim & @Jova > rekordbox is not the likely culprit for damaged data. Knowing what you did and how you did it might lead to a more reasonable answer such as removing the drive before "ejecting" it.

@Pulse I've since returned the SSD drive to crucial because i couldn't fix the drives write permissions and I believe Rekordbox had a something to do with it. I didn't unplug the drive and it came up with device corrupted in rekordbox.. my XDJ 1000s were giving me emergency loop errors with the ssd occasionally prior to this. I've now got a replacement MX200 SSD from Crucial and still occasionally get the emergency loop error.. :( Thought I could use a SSD with 25000 songs with rekordbox smoothly but guess not?

Hey Pulse, I'm sure you do remember using the free software argument. If not I'll find it back for you.
I am really glad I didn't upgrade when RB went from 4.1 to 4.2. You should really notice how many people are complaining.
In the 17 years that I've been working in a broadcast environment some hardware vendors made the change to software-connected-to-hardware. They had a hell of a time getting it right. What started in 2004 came to a calm water situation in 2010.
I admire your loyalty as an employee but we (you included) would be really helped with better technical information and less hassled software. There is a reason why DRM never really worked. (Not saying that DRM is your problem but trying to keep things secret and dedicated to pioneer & macintosh products is. If only because you're dealing with Windows engineers now).
So: no need to defend yourself. You've helped me before in great ways. But for now it would be smart for pioneers sales department to admit they are moving too fast.

As you've noticed, the software-connected-to-hardware is more hardware-connected-to-software, but if you go back just a few years, our support needs were less about troubleshooting your computer's problems and more about the hardware and connections themselves. All it takes now is for an OS manufacturer to tweak one small thing and then our software / hardware no longer functions as it previously did, and we're the ones taking the blame, needing to craft updates, and support users who are complaining.

@Pulse can you confirm that i can use a Crucial MX200 500gb SSD with 25,000 tracks through rekordbox with XDJ 1000s without any hassles? is this supported? Why am i getting Emergency loop randomly? There is nothing wrong with the drive and this has nothing to do with what OS i am using since it is on the XDJ 1000s...

I'm not going to say it will be completely hassle-free; any time you go over 10,000 songs there may be a slight slowdown with some search or sort functions, but not to the point it's unusable. I've got over 35,000 songs on my export drive and I'm aware of the limitations and know what to expect in terms of performance.

And yes, SSD will work better than a USB drive thanks to its much faster R/W speeds.

@Pulse could you suggest possible reasons as to why the emergency loop happens and how to avoid it? Also do you have any tips for using an SSD with XDJs & rekordbox safely aside from 'safe to remove hardware' ? Would be great to avoid emergency loops.

the search, sort, browse etc. functions of SSD on the XDJs is perfect btw so no issues there its just the occasional emergency loop which sometimes can happen twice in one night.

@Tim > There's no magic skill necessary for the SSD; just remember to stop the drive before removing it (either from the player or your computer). The emergency loop issue would be good to know if you're having it occur directly on the player the drive is connected to or a networked drive, and if/when it occurs, what else you might be doing on either player.
