Problem: Your Windows PC doesn't recognize your DDJ-400 as a MIDI controller, only as a digital audio device. Rekordbox also doesn't detect it.

Possible causes and solutions:

1. Connection and Hardware:

  • Cable: Ensure you're using the original USB cable that came with the DDJ-400. Not all USB cables are created equal, and some might not provide enough power or data transfer for proper function.
  • USB port: Try connecting the DDJ-400 to a different USB port on your PC. Some ports might be faulty or have less power available.
  • Power: The DDJ-400 is bus-powered, meaning it draws power from the USB port. If the port doesn't provide enough power, it might not function correctly. Try connecting the DDJ-400 to a powered USB hub or directly to the back of your PC.

2. Drivers:

  • Reinstall drivers: Open Device Manager, find the DDJ-400 listed under "Sound, video and game controllers" or "Other devices," right-click on it and select "Uninstall device." Check the "Delete the driver software for this device" checkbox if available. Restart your PC. Windows will automatically reinstall the default drivers upon reconnection.
  • Download latest drivers: Download the latest drivers for your specific DDJ-400 model and Windows version from Pioneer DJ's website: https://www.pioneerdj.com/en/support/software/archive/ddj-s1/
  • Disable driver signing enforcement (advanced): This is a temporary workaround and should be re-enabled later. Follow these steps at your own risk: https://wethegeek.com/how-to-permanently-disable-driver-signature-enforcement-on-windows-10/

3. Software:

  • Rekordbox settings: In Rekordbox, go to Preferences > Audio > Control Device. Ensure the "Control Device" and "Headphones" options are set to the DDJ-400.
  • Conflicting software: Close any other audio programs running in the background, especially DJ software, as they might be conflicting with Rekordbox and the DDJ-400.
  • Windows audio settings: Right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar, select "Sounds," then right-click the DDJ-400 and choose "Set as Default Device."

4. Additional troubleshooting:

  • Restart everything: Restart your PC desktop and the DDJ-400. Sometimes a simple reboot can fix glitches.
  • Check Windows updates: Make sure you have the latest Windows updates installed, as they can sometimes contain driver updates or bug fixes for your issue.
  • Contact Pioneer DJ support: If none of the above solutions work, contact Pioneer DJ support for further assistance: https://support.pioneerdj.com/hc/en-us
