Hi,
I bought my DDJ RB controller 2 months ago now and I still haven't managed to find out what the f'ck is wrong. I've been reading literally every post about this that there is on the whole internet but still it won't work.
When I open rekordbox and the controller is plugged in it's recognized somehow by Rekordbox, but the controller has no contact with the program at all.
I've been uninstalling and installing again and again perhaps 25 times but still no progress. All of the installations that is, Audi driver, DDJ RB driver and rekordbox etc. Also, when installing, one (important) step is missing for me.
The step where you get to "choose which method to use" never shows up. It's the step where you choose either Dj Performance or Music Management.
I tried on a different macbook and it worked, but it wasn't mine so that didn't really solve the issue.
Please help, it's been making me so frustrated for so long now and I've no idea what to do with it.

I'm having the similar issue. I am running high sierra. The controller is seen by rekordbox as I can choose which audio output and the firmware update worked but the controller does not work with rekordbox....I can't choose tracks, I can't scroll, load or control.
Are you running HighSierra?
Yes I'm running High Sierra, and I have the exact same issue as "Dre" above.
It's seen by Rekordbox but I can't do anything on the controller.
As I said I think there was something during the installation since I never got to choose DJ Performance or Music Management, that whole step was missing.
Is there a problem specifically with High Sierra?
I think it's a rekordbox/rb3 thing.
My SX2 works fine in serato and rekordbox (installed pre-10.13), so does my my DDJ-SB3 under Serato.
I see my RB in audiomidi, in rekordbox (to choose audio output) but it won't work as a controller....I also managed to update the firmware on the RB yesterday on my Mac...
I don't get the install warning issue either which they detail in the 10.13 OS help info so I can't add pioneer as a trusted company.....
Infuriating and time consuming,,,,You'd think if serato could get it to work with pioneer hardware without any issues whatsoever then Pioneer should be able to get their own hardware to work with their own software out of the box.......Ridiculous.
The problem is a chance Apple made to the driver security in High Sierra, which is exactly why I asked. This isn't something of Pioneer DJ's doing, so please don't accuse us of not "being able to get things working out of the box."
You can't just go in and make this change at any time, it has to be immediately after you attempt a driver installation. Here's the steps:
- Install the drivers
- Install the drivers AGAIN
Trust me, I've assisted dozens of users with this process.
@dre > The DDJ-SB/2/3 don't require drivers, the DDJ-RB does, that's why they work with Serato "out of the box."
Maybe next time consider that I do know what I'm talking about rather than insult me.
If you can get the RB working I will gladly accept you know what you're talking about but your suggestion didn't work. If Pioneer can make controllers that work with other software on the same Apple hardware OUT OF THE BOX I am flabbergasted that you think the issue is all down to Apple and not Pioneer????
We can sit here and argue all day about who is to blame, but I'm still not going to be likely to convince you that the reason the SB/2/3 controllers work out of the box is because they don't require a driver (they use the CORE AUDIO drivers), and the RB does (it uses our own audio device driver), so continue to be flabbergasted, because I know this for a fact, the same as I know the sun will rise in the East and set in the West.
If your DDJ-RB is showing up under the USB device tree of your system information (Apple > About This Mac > System Report > USB), that means the computer recognizes it.
If it appears as an audio device under Audio MIDI Setup > Audio Devices, that means you have the drivers properly installed and it's available as an audio interface.
If it appears as a MIDI device with a white border under Audio MIDI Setup > MIDI Studio, that means you have the drivers properly installed and is available as a MIDI controller.
If it appears in rekordbox > Preferences > Audio > Control Device Information, it's recognized as a controller.
If one of these doesn't check out, it's not connected properly, the USB cable / hub / port you're using is bad, or you've not installed the drivers properly.
Apple > About This Mac > System Report > USB (YES)
Audio MIDI Setup > Audio Devices (YES)
Audio MIDI Setup > MIDI Studio (YES)
CONTROLLER DEVICE INFORMATION (NO) but it IS showing in RekordBox Audio Panel as the Audio Output?????
I've used 2 cables and all 4 ports. As I previously said, the DDJ-SB and DDJ-SX2 both work fine using same hardware and the SX2 works on Serato & RekordBox?
What do you suggest now?
Which firmware version is shown in the System Report, and which version of rekordbox are you currently running?
Rekordbox v5.2.0 rev 13750-13319-13317
I updated to 1.03 yesterday (on the same MacBook Pro). System Report says:
DDJ-RB:
Product ID: 0x000e
Vendor ID: 0x2b73
Version: 1.03
Speed: Up to 480 Mb/sec
Manufacturer: Pioneer DJ Corporation
Location ID: 0x14600000 / 2
Current Available (mA): 500
Current Required (mA): 500
Extra Operating Current (mA): 0
Now do you understand why I blame Pioneer for this???
Any idea what to do now?
I’m presuming the lack of a quick reply is that you’ve accepted that this isn’t something you can resolve nor blame Apple for and that I was right in saying it’s down to Pioneer software not working with its own hardware......
My lack of quick reply was the fact there are a number of things I do for Pioneer DJ in addition to hitting refresh every 15 seconds waiting for your reply to this topic. But I thank you for your vote of confidence and for making assumptions.
Disconnect the DDJ-RB from the USB, open the audio driver package, run the uninstaller file within.
Open the Audio MIDI Setup > MIDI Studio window, select the DDJ-RB (should be grey), then click Edit > Delete.
Reboot your computer.
Run the driver installation, disable the High Sierra security, run the driver installation again. Reboot your computer once more.
Open rekordbox in performance mode, THEN connect the DDJ-RB, watch the bottom left corner to see if this appears:
If it does, check Preferences > Audio to see if the DDJ-RB was automatically selected as the audio device, and then scroll to the bottom to see if the DDJ-RB is listed as a Control Device.
Wow, sarcasm as a defence mechanism. Again, not had any such issues with serato software!! Having spent over 5 hours today and you being all quick to reply then over 2 hours and radio silence. Again, this is all about your drivers not working.
After wasting another hour following your instructions to the letter and adding a reboot as the software requested after the intiial uninstall I still don’t get the warning message that asks me to give pioneer permission. I’ve said this before, I said it in my unanswered support email message!!
THE CONTROLLER still doesn’t control!!!
And you don’t think this is still ridiculous?
Sorry, I should have been clear, I watched the bottom left hand corner of rekord box and the text below your red arrow did not materialise. DDJ-RB is showing in rekordbox preferences/audio (as it has always done) there are no controllers listed
You didn't answer if you can get the SB3 to work with rekordbox which would solve the issue on my part and I can return the RB
I thought I'd go the whole hog, I uninstalled RekordBox, deleted all folders from Pioneer or Rekordbox, re-booted and re-installed. I even tried the SB3 and that does the same, it's available as an audio output and has the same lights lit as the RB and SX2.
Some help would be appreciated.....I’ve 2 dumb controllers and nobody seems to know how to resolve it and direct support, 3 working days and no reply. Uk phone support had no suggestions either.
Come on,,,,..
Mr Pulse, are you there??
I've heard nothing since Friday and still have 2 controllers that won't control RekordBox on my Mac......
I am truly appalled at this absolute lack of care for a loyal customer who’s spent thousands and supported you since the very first CDJ-500’s.
Leavig a customer high and dry like this is disgraceful. 8 working days and no direct support reply and Mr Pulse wiping his hands of this serious issue.
His is is beyond ridiculous it’s wholly unacceptable that nobody has bothered to get to the bottom of why none of the controllers i have work with rekordbox as a controller.
Shameful and truly unacceptable Pioneer DJ!
I haven't wiped my hands of anything.
So, 9 days since your last reply and still no progress, replies or solution and nothing from tech support either.
My ddj-rb doesn't show up within rekordbox what so ever under the audio settings
Mr Pulse, you say that you've not wiped your hands of this problem but your lack of action say otherwise. You've not made any attempt to help remedy this diabolical situation for almost 2 weeks.
I presume you've accepted a bug in rekordbox is the culprit. When are you going to actually do something to resolve the situation??
