We'll call that "Traktor view." lol
It would be extremely helpful if there were an option in Performance mode to change the view layout to side-by-side waveforms, instead of the stacked parallel waveforms, which are helpful for beatmatching but are not very detailed and do not build good habits for CDJ training. I have done a mockup in Paint by copying the waveforms from Export mode's 1 Player view:
1) As you can see, it would take up the same amount of space, the allotted area for waveforms would stay the same, except the real estate would be divided vertically instead of horizontally, just like the preview waveforms and hot cues/BPM platter below. Even a 4-deck layout would be feasible by further halving each space.
2) Waveforms would be MUCH more detailed / useful like they are in the Export mode's 1 Player view. The detail is already there as we can see in RB's Export mode, which is helpful for seeing hi-hats, kick drums, beat grid alignment, etc. This is one area that Traktor has an advantage over rekordbox, as Traktor Pro 3 now has an option to change between their classic side-by-side view and parallel waveforms too! By adding this Pioneer would another step ahead of the game.
3) It would emulate the same visual set up as having CDJs with non-stacked waveforms, which would be very beneficial for people trying to practice the CDJ club setup and not build bad habits by visually relying on stacked / parallel waveforms. If possible, you could also add a toggle to turn on/off Nexus style phase meters at the top of each waveform to help with visual beatmatching if wanted too, further unifying the design language of Pioneer's different setups, like the DDJ controller series is already doing.
Hopefully the Pioneer DJ team takes this into consideration, as the lack of detail in rekordbox Performance mode waveforms is an oft-cited disadvantage VS other setups (Traktor, CDJs). Thank you!

seems like very good idea you have here.
They will be improving their ever so clever eco-system in a continuous flow from the club to home djs. easy use for all new and old generation djs to use pioneer equipment. Also will train ears far better than any visual beat alignment.
plus 1 on this request
exactly, the "Traktor view" would be very useful.
They could call it the Nexus state. Or something just to mimic the xdj CDJ screen.
Rekordbox DJ will definitely level up then lol.
Never seen such an unprofessional response to a very reasonable feature request. I'm blown away tbh.
But I gotta bump the thread, hopefully someone else at pioneer with some sense in them sees this and does take it into consideration.
How was the response unprofessional? That's the BEST way to describe it.
haven't used traktor in years so i have no idea how descriptive that is lol.
and yeah, that's super unprofessional, because you've not given any constructive response to the OP and you're basically implying that you don't care/wouldn't even think about considering this (i'll say it again, *very reasonable*) suggestion
i mean there's not much I can do here, but come on, it wouldn't be that difficult to just say 'yes thats a good idea we will consider bringing it in in a future update' or 'sorry but we will not be adding this feature for these reasons: ... . .' nice and simple
We don't even typically respond to posts in this section, but thank you for your suggestion.
So... how's that "Traktor view" coming along..?
Unfortunately the demand for it is a low percentage of the users, so it's on the list but not a high priority and I don't have any information on if/when for its implementation. Sorry!
We need more demand for this then don't we!!
Have always wondered why it isn't an option, along with many ppl I know. Perhaps everyone ends up getting a little too complacent with the layered waveforms which is understandable considering that you can make mixes near on perfect with far less effort and even guess work when it comes to mixing tracks your not familiar with BUT, and I'm sure they'll be a lot of DJ's agree with this and that is that "it gets boring!!" And in a sense, kind of unprofessional...
I totally agree that stacked waveforms does not build good habits for CDJ training. In saying this, it also seems to be a BIG question for DJ trainers from those who are running hardware that relies on using Rekordbox software. "How do we transition from controller to club gear??" I hear it ALL the time! And for those that aren't familiar with CDJ's or other gear that has everything separate, the thought of failure is daunting. I have witnessed many DJ's freak out and mess up their set's because they struggle to beat match under the pressure of inexperience. You can't say they're crap because you don't know if they really are good and it's just a real shame when you do know how well they can play but due to lack of experience then fold and sometimes potentially lose confidence in DJing because of something I and I'm many others feel is due to something that could be fixed or at least trained otherwise by a company that is so well respected and undoubtedly relied on these days.
Perhaps there is a way that you guys Pioneer DJ can reach out to it's user's and ask if they would like to see and experience this new "side by side" waveform format applied to Rekordbox?
I'm not having a dig at Pioneer but personally find it a bit a of shame that a company we look up to (and almost don't have a choice really, not exactly saying this a bad thing) as DJ's hasn't supported this and understood that mixing without stacked waveforms is critical in a live set performance. Honestly just would have thought it'd be up there as a no1 feature under the circumstances but, guess not, unfortunately!
Really hope to see a change with this soon! Understandably making such a massive change to the software I can imagine isn't the simplest of tasks but I'm sure such a large company has the resources to finding ways to making things happen.
Surely the benefit in the long run would be happily welcomed by many if they only had the option.
i've been on rekordbox for the last year and its mostly great, small addtions like this would stop me jumping back to traktor if they ever sort there $h** out which i highly doubt.
i edited the pic to include a thicker central bar to seperate the decks properly and bigger static wave forms, a couple of years ago this was one of the things missing that stopped me coming to rekordbox for good.
at the moment im on rekordbox because of the shiny hardware and tidal intergration.
Want to keep me here? with this view ill stick around, does anyone care? probably not..........
i made some other suggestions in the relevant section please take a look.
"Does anyone care" -> no. Requests are ignored, some after 5 to 10 years.
Technical improvements, reported via support tickets, as well.
Hello, I recently added an rx3 to my setup (I have denon sc6000m, x1850) and for me not having side by side waveform is kinda of a big deal because while I dj I non stop think about not beat matching but line matching and not improving. After looking around places like github, facebook groups, stackoverflow and looking through the install directory of rekordbox I did not find a way to hack my way around it (I was hoping to find a layout file of somekind and to cleverly switch out column positioning of the waveforms to rows but no luck whatsoever). I ended up using OBS, Window Capute and multiple filters(to crop the rekordbox window) after I cropped the rekordbox window I managed to restructure the UI to my liking.
Kinda funny how my numark mixstream pro 500$ piece of dj gear non stop gets new meaningul features meanwhile my rx3's last update was last july.
