DDJ-1000 SRT JOG WHEEL ISSUE?

So one of the jogwheels on my ddj-1000 SRT has an unusual about of side to side give.  Is there a way I can tighten it up, or do I have to send it in for repair?

@Aluzion > Yours is definitely beyond what I would consider the expected tolerance range. I wouldn't expect this is an issue with every model, as you can see it's not even an issue on every jog.

@Neal > Yours appears to be within the expected tolerance. I would continue to use it and reassess the situation as you get more use. If the feel changes or the play increases, then please contact a Pioneer DJ authorized service centre in your region to have your hardware inspected and/or repaired within the first year for warranty service.

Can you post a video of this so we can see just what's happening? Thanks.

Hi, I just purchased a DDJ-1000SRT from SamAsh and I Live in NY and when I brought it home my right jog wheel has a lot of side to side movement where the left jog wheel is nice and tight.

So i told them about it and they ordered me another one from a partner store and that one also has a loose right jogwheel....

They were supposed to let pioneer know and they also ordered another unit straight from PioneerDJ and is expected to come in a week.

I wanted to get in touch with pioneer and tell them because there’s a problem here with new units and i came across this forum.

I also joined a facebook group for the ddj1000 and two others have posted videos about this problem and they just got theirs also. I’m thinking a bad batch or something.

In the meantime SamAsh lent me their floor model which works perfectly both jog wheels are nice and tight with minimal movement.

PIONEER PLEASE FIGURE THIS OUT. I BELIEVE YOU HAVE A WIDESPREAD MANUFACTURING PROBLEM

Its also unfair that I have to use a demo unit when i paid for a new one over a week ago and there’s no guarantee that the replacement SamAsh ordered wont have the same problem...

@Neal Carter How long have you owned your ddj1000?

Is it new or have you had it for a while?

Also is it something that just developed or something you just noticed?

Thanks mate

@Pulse / PioneerDJ

How could you say that play is acceptable on Neal Carters Jog Wheel?

Especially when his Left Jog barely has any play at all?

Ive seen people posting on facebook and here, as well as the 2 units brand new out of the box at the store i went to having this issue. Yes there is different amounts of play BUT when you have one JOG wheel that is Tight with barely any movement and the other side is making a loud noise along with the play, The technical / engineering side of me CANNOT comprehend a response like the one you just gave.

There has to be a failed part inside the JOG that is allowing the movement. I take it your not an engineer because if you were, you would have never made that comment!

@Aluzion > Compare the difference between his and yours -- they're quite different. There are manufacturing tolerances on a physical mechanical device like the CDJ / DDJ jog wheel, and from what I can see in the video, his appears to be within the limits even though the two are not the same. As I told him, if the situation changes and it gets worse, he's still within warranty for a few months to get it repaired.

I am not an engineer, but I have disassembled these units before and know what's inside of them - so I don't need to be an engineer to understand how they work or why there are differences in the amount of play / movement they have ... thus the acceptable tolerances.

Can you please explain to us what tolerances you are talking about ? There must be an official measurement with a numerical value.
Inches / mm ?

This way I can measure the floor model I have that both decks have exact same movement and the new one that the store ordered for me and I’ll know wether or not to keep the controller or return it.

Your help is greatly appreciated

Can you also please explain what’s inside them that allows movement in some but not others?

That’s what I think everyone really wants to know.
And since you know what that is, we would really appreciate the insight.

When I say WE I speak for my group with thousands of DDJ 1000 users.

Whether the side to side movement is within the tolerances or not, it is still worrisome.  If I was to take it in to get repaired, would this get covered under the warranty?

@aluzion I bought it new about 3 months ago.  I noticed it after about a week, using it sparingly, while trying to faze out my turntables.  While the problem is not a deal breaker, it is definitely frustrating considering the cost and the fact that hardware issues are popping up so early.  Also, shout out to the Sam Ash on Long Island, I spent way too much time there growing up.

@ Neal Carter
So it’s safe to say your controller had that amount of play from day one?
You just haven’t addressed it until now. That seems to be the consensus. These controllers are coming out of the box new with these problems.

Either they are 1 manufacturing defect or 2 were taken apart once for repair and sent back out as new controllers.

The error is either in the machines that make them or the techs that fix them.

As for SamAsh yeah love that store. The people that work there are awesome.

So I have email confirmation that Pulse is looking into the situation, in talks with Japan and will either get back to me here or via email. Either way i will be hopeful in hearing something positive. Like i said I really love this controller but dont want to incur expensive repairs after the 1 year warranty on something that maybe was overlooked or not designed properly for the heavy use of a DJ. Especially these platters that have to be pressed with some force while rapidly moving back and forth for scratching scenarios.

Look forward to hearing from you

The tolerances of the jog wheel is unacceptable for such an expensive controler. Τhe feeling is like a broken toy. The problem is in two plastic wheels that their shaft is very loose and serve as guides to turn the jog wheel in perfect circle.

<EDIT> Sorry, can't leave that video up - you're not an authorized service technician and that information could lead users to damage their controller. </EDIT>

Boom! I wouldn’t be surprised if they take your post down. But try and reach as many people as you can. There’s also a Facebook group that is user controlled for the 1000. Great find!
