New DJM S-9 freezing on Serato

Hi,

I recently bought a brand new DJM-S9. I'm aware its an old mixer, but prices have fallen in my country and I got a good deal on a brand new unit.

Unfortunately, after playing for an hour or two, Serato freezes up and the waveforms and audio eventually go really slow and stutter. The only way to recover from the problem is to power-cycle the mixer. I have tried various versions of MacOS, but the problem persists. I have also tried various versions of Serato, but it does not help. A clean install if Mac OS also doesnt help. I am running nothing else in the background and the Wifi and Bluetooh are turned off and I have followed the Serato optimization guide for MacOs.

Any assistance would be great since I cannot use this mixer and have to use my old setup (Denon DS1 and Traktor Z2). This setup works on the same Macbook without issue.

Laptop - Macbook Pro Retina 2015 (8GB, 256GB SSD)
OS : Mojave (same problem happens on Catalina and Big Sur)
S9 Firmware : 1.09

I'm using turntables and Phase in HID mode
Both Phase and the Mixer are connected directly to the USB ports on the Macbook. The Macbook is not overheating, temperature and CPU-usage is low when using the mixer.

Hi Pulse - thank you for the prompt response. I appreciate it.

Not sure which version of the driver I am using. The driver installs automatically when I start up Serato for the first time after a clean install of the OS. I'll find out how to check the driver version I have and feedback to you.

I checked up the it was running an older driver 1.1.x. Not sure why Serato installs the older driver by default

I downloaded 1.20, uninstalled the old one and installed the new one. I will test it later as it could take two hours or more to fail.

Thank you for the help.

Even after uninstalling the 1.1.0 driver and installing the 1.20 driver for Mojave, its still freezing on me. This time it happened after approximately 20 mins of playing.

Not sure what to do now. I guess I'll try a clean install of Catalina and hopefully will have more luck with that.

Serato no longer supports Mojave, so yeah - I'd try Catalina.

Thanks for your feedback.

I was running Serato DJ Pro 2.5.5 which is supported on Mojave when I was experiencing the freezing issues. In any event, I used the mixer for 3 hours today - no crashes yet. I'll need to test a bit more since I have a 6 hour gig this weekend.

After the clean install of Catalina, I installed Serato 2.5.7 and plugged in the mixer. It automatically downloaded a driver, but this driver version is 1.1.0. At this point , it seems to be working fine. Should I continue using 1.1.0 or should install 4.0.0. from the Pioneer website?

Hi Pulse,

I did a stream last night and the same failure occured. About 2 hours into the stream, Serato froze.....I had to restart the mixer.

At this point, I'm running Catalina, but the problem is exactly the same as it was on Mojave. Please advise on what I could troubleshoot next.

I'm beginning to suspect the mixer is faulty.
