DDJ 400 not recognized as audio device, controls don't work in Rekordbox (Windows 10)

I have a DDJ-400 + a brand new Lenovo Thinkbook with decent specs (i7 11th gen + 16GB RAM) running Win 10 Pro. I have installed all pending Windows 10 updates. After Chrome, Rekordbox is the only other non-factory app I have installed on the machine.

I cannot control Rekordbox using the controller. When I plug in the DDJ-400, it lights up, and quickly goes to a mode where the 2x HOT CUE buttons are lit, and the Release FX is solid blue. No controls work (e.g. track scroll wheel, load decks, play/cue, etc). If I wait long enough, the controller eventually goes into its animated "screensaver mode".

Rekordbox does not appear as an audio/sound output device either. I cannot get sound to play through it.

In Rekordbox Preferences > Audio, I only see the default speakers ("Realtek(R) Audio") in the Audio drop-down. It is the only selectable entry in the list. It appears under the bold non-selectable "Windows Audio" heading. There is also a bold non-selectable "ASIO" heading in the list but no entries appear underneath it.

I have tried ALL USB ports, both 'regular' and USB-C options (USB-C with an adapter) with the same result. I have tried them with the laptop plugged into power as well. There are no other USB peripherals plugged in other than the DDJ-400.

I would have tried uninstalling Rekordbox but your uninstall feature is currently BROKEN and Rekordbox fails to uninstall via Windows add/remove programs (yes I closed it before trying). I have re-run the installer regardless. The DDJ-400 still fails to work.

I know that the issue is not with the DDJ-400 itself because I also have a Mac and the same DDJ-400 works fine there.

In Windows Device Manager, under "Audio inputs and outputs" I only see a Microphone Array and the system speakers (Speakers (Realtek(R) Audio)). If I look under Windows Settings, Sound > Output, the system speakers are the only option the computer knows about.

In Windows Device Manager, the "DDJ-400" does appear under "Sound, video and game controllers". It actually appears twice. Corresponding entries for "Intel Smart Sound Technology for USB Audio" also appear twice. If I unplug the DDJ-400 from USB, the entries for "DDJ-400" and "Intel Smart Sound Technology..." disappear.

I tried right-click + uninstalling all entries that appear twice ("DDJ-400" and "Intel Smart..."), unplugging the DDJ-400, opening Rekordbox, and re-plugging in the DDJ-400, and they re-appear in Device Manager. However the DDJ-400 is still not recognized as an audio output device.

I did some searching and can see that there are no specific drivers available for the DDJ-400 and that it should work via USB out of the box. That's clearly not the case. This is an otherwise completely new and virgin system.

Please advise, would love to get this working. The whole point of this laptop was a portable Rekordbox rig.

Our engineers have noted that there is an issue with certain 11th-gen Intel CPU based computers from a variety of vendors (Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc). Here is their advice:

Search for apps and features from start menu and open the page
Locate the MaxxAudio Pro and click to choose uninstall
Download Realtek driver from this link.

Run this file and install to the laptop. Follow on screen to complete. This driver will perform > remove existing driver > restart > auto run again > install new driver > restart.

After complete the cycle, test again connect and disconnect headphone to test. It will auto switch and no need to set anything.

I have the same problem too.

I tried reinstalling the DJ-400 sound device through device manager multiple times with no luck. I have an old Lenovo Yoga 2 that reads the DJ-400 fine as I am able to change the default device in sound settings through the "line in" DJ-400 option.

I got a new laptop HP 13-bb0027nr laptop that recognizes the DJ-400 as a sound device in Device Manager but it does not show up in the sound settings (no "line in option" is shown only the Realtek Audio Speakers option). This is very frustrating. Please advise.

I have the same problem. Brand new Acer Aspire 5 that recognizes the DJ-400 as a sound device but it does not show up in the sound settings of Rekordbox.

Hi everyone,

Yoga 7 14ITL5 here and I have exactly the same problem as OP.

I just updated the Bios last night to F5CN40WW and I was very hopeful my DDJ-400 would work again on my pc. No such luck though.

Any other suggestions?

I'm assuming FNCN28WW is a previous update so It won't make much difference correct?

The suggestion to enable USB 2.0 audio driver is not available for this machine and we also do not recommends to downgrade the windows to 32-bit

As previous remote session as well, I have updated below drivers
- BIOS ver F5CN40WW
- Wndows version 20H2
- Audio driver 6.0.9025.1 (latest) and we also tried previous ver 6.0.9000
- Intel chipset 10.1.18460.8229
- Intel management engine driver 15.0.0.1320v5

Apart from all of the above steps, downgrading the BIOS or windows version is also not recommended on this machine.

OP adding:

Subsequent updates re both Lenovo and Windows have all been compatible so far, and I've installed a ton of other 3rd party software once I got the DDJ-400 working.

Also, on my machine I have found that the DDJ-400 works reliably via the full-size USB port on the right-hand side of the machine when laptop screen is facing me (my model includes both traditional and USB-C ports). I haven't measured but I suspect the DDJ-400 uses all the juice it can get from limited USB. Many laptops these days don't provide full amps to all ports. You might also want to control the number of other USB peripherals you are using to reduce overall power draw. I use my DDJ-400 on its own with nothing else plugged in to USB.

The DDJ-400 is a great product, I'm glad this thread has helped people get back mixing. Thanks PioneerDJ!

Unless if there is any same machine able to connects to the DDJ-400 driver, we are happily to install the drivers on same model unit.

From Lenovo, we have to make sure your hardware is working as per latest drivers updates.

However, any software related issues, this needs to be referred to software provider (pioneer).

Same problem here. And no solution, is so frustrating :(

DDj 400 just doesn't work on my Huawei Matebook X PRO 2021 i7 11th generation. Not recognised in Rekorbox, just both "Hot Cue" (red) and "Fx" lights (blue) on.

I already talked to Huawei and everythig seems ok by their side. Laptop has the latest drivers, although already un/reinstalled the sound card's drivers again. Of course I've also un/reinstalled Rekorbox. I also performed many factory reset in the computer and nothing.

DDJ400 works fine in and old computer, but it is useless unless I can use it in the new one... and that's why I bought it!.

Please help :(

me too, brand new acer aspire 5, i5 11th gen., cant get it to work with rekordbox... no chance to work as a midi controller... ive installed the latest audio driver from the acer website, latest win upadates.. but doesnt work...

No not from lenovo, I have a Acer Aspire 5. The update came with a windows update that popped up today, it installed some new Realtek drivers. Witch is a newer version than on the acer website. And with this new drivers it works.

Hi everyone, OP here, Lenovo ThinkBook 14s Yoga ITL with 11th-Gen i7. Lenovo has released a BIOS Update that resolves this issue, listed as version FNCN28WW on the website (version 1.07 per the README).

The driver installer/download is available through the Lenovo Vantage app or via their support website for Win 10 64-bit.

Lenovo marks the date as 2020-11-30 (README) and 2020-12-01 (website) but it was most definitely NOT available on Lenovo Vantage or the driver site until recently...

When I saw it appear I was very excited at the prospect that a BIOS update might resolve this USB-related issue and I'm pleased to report that it did. There are no other drivers (including for anything specifically related to audio / Realtek) that have been released or that need to be installed to resolve this issue.

The controller is now recognized within Rekordbox 6.4.2. The controls work, I can load tracks, scratch, etc. via the controller. In Preferences, it appears as "DDJ-400 WASAPI".

Fellow users and bedroom DJ's, please take care when updating your BIOS. If you are not careful you can brick your laptop. Read all the prompts, unplug all USB + peripherals, have a full battery, and plug it into reliable power. Expect your machine to reboot a few times, display unusual screens, blast the fan, etc. Even if it seems off for several seconds, don't hit that power button -- be patient and wait. At least in my case, when everything was done it booted back to Windows.

Thanks to Pioneer DJ support + engineering teams for their prompt and thorough response to me when I reported this issue directly to their support at the same time I posted to this forum. That response led me to submit this issue to Lenovo and post on their forums as well. Happy to return the favour and loop back here to help close this issue for your team and other Lenovo/Pioneer DJ customers. I hope this helps some of you get back to the music!

I literally just returned my Lenovo 7i-14 because of this issue.
I tried the Bios update yesterday when I discovered this issue with my DDJ400 but an error message popped up on the beginning stage after pressing Install. The error message said something like "Rom same as Bios". I couldn't do much after this so I ended up returning the laptop. Finding any new laptop that will recognize my controller has been a PITA. Did you happen to recieve this error message while trying to install bios? Thanks in advance .

when you go to the lenovo website . You can now download the real tek audio driver and a Bios update . If you download this your problems whil be history .

Ga naar de lenovo website ga naar support :

ga tablad pc klik op bovenste tab, dan ga je doorgeleid worden naar de drivers die u labtop nog kan installeren.

installeer de BIOS updat en audio vieuwer (real tek audio)

en hierna zouden je problemen opgelost moeten zijn .

Sorry about that - if the BIOS update didn't help, you may need to seek out a driver update, or try any kind of work-around to either disable or remove the default Windows driver for your Realtek audio device.

@Filipe > Sorry, if the manufacturer-provided drivers / BIOS update have not resolved the issue, you may need to ask them if/when they will have another available. Unfortunately this is not within our control and it would affect any other audio or MIDI device you tried to connect to that computer.

Hi everyone, OP here again, I wanted to chime in that so far everything is still great w/ the BIOS update on my particular machine (it would seem that audio-related software was installed in that bundle too).

Remember: save your Bitlocker (drive encryption) keys or temporarily disable Bitlocker before you do any BIOS update; and unplug all USB devices and peripherals before running these sorts of updates!

I'm with Lenovo on this one, I wouldn't do any driver downgrades, and definitely you want to stick to 64-bit!

Hey Kevin, happy to hear it works for you, I really wonder what magic has helped you to get it working but for me it's also the same issue:

- latest bios

- updated realtek every way I could

Unfortunately my DDJ-400 still does not work with my brand new Lenovo 7i.

Also checked with the Lenovo helpdesk but they didn't really show any interest in helping me out.

I'll keep an eye on this thread, if anyone has any ideas, please post em here :) .

I've seen a couple of users disable the onboard audio through the BIOS and have it work, but others weren't as fortunate.

I gave up trying to get Pioneer and Lenovo to work together as they both blamed each other, so luckily my wifes laptop died, so I gave her the new Lenovo Yoga that I had bought with the intel 11th gen, then spenmt 3 hours in the shop connecting my DDJ-400 to heaps of laptops to see what would work. I ended up getting trhe ASUS Vivobook too funnily enough too! It doesnt use Intel. They use a AMD Ryzen 7 5700U with Radeon Graphics 1.80 GHz processer, or mine does and it works fine thankfully.
