DJM T1: Using FX when mixing via CDJ's

Hi,

I understand that the T1 mixer doesn't have built in FX when not connected to a mac. What is the best way for me to gain and use effects while mixing with my CDJ's. Will the T1 still recognise the tractor effects even tho i'm not mixing within the programme but still connected? Is there a solution?

@Joe > Unfortunately the T1's effects only control Traktor, and the Traktor effects are added on top of the selected deck within Traktor. Therefore the DJM-T1 will not recognize the Traktor effects if you are using external decks outside of Traktor.

Unfortunately I think your only solution would be to use the Traktor decks as the effects will be layered directly on them. A Pioneer EFX unit would not work because there is no Send/Return on the DJM-T1.

The DJM-T1 was built to be used as a high quality mixer to work with Traktor controlled decks on CD or Vinyl. It can support external decks as it contains a built in 3 band/ISO mixer, but was meant to use the Traktor effects with Traktor decks only. This is not a limitation to the DJM-T1 hardware, it is a limitation of the Traktor software unfortunately.

Thanks for your response.

I have CDJ 2000's. My mate has 350's and says they have built in Fx. Are there FX built in the 2000's?

If not then i'm beginning to wish i had just gone for a X1 controller + mixer with in built effects :(

@Joe> Did your friend say the CDJ-350 has built in effects, or did you mean the DJM-350?

If you were referring to the DJM-350; Yes, there are 4 built in Master Effects on the DJM-350, but 2 can be swapped through an update with 2 effects on the DJM-350-W version and vice versa. This means you have 6 Master Effects to choose from, but only 4 can be loaded at a time.

If you were referring to the CDJ-350; there are no current CDJ's that have built in effects on them. This means there are no built in effects on the CDJ-2000.

The X1 only controls the Traktor decks as well. You would need to use the Traktor decks anyways if you bought the X1.

Yes, unfortunately it would appear you might have had better luck looking into what you needed and how you would have everything connected for use.

If you really don't want to use the Traktor decks just so you can use the effects with the DJM-T1, I think the only other option would be to look into a mixer that has built in effects.

I hope this helps. :)

Thanks for the info Foster.

I'm just surprised that a mixer in this price bracket doesn't allow me to have the option to be able use built in effects when mixing using a source outside traktor. Even the DJM-350 has the basic built in FX. The idea of a fully integrated mixer surely should mean it is as versatile as a Mixer (with built in effects) + CDJ + X1 set up.

@Joe > This mixer is designed to be used with Traktor and within the software you have access to way more effects (and either three at once or advanced mode for better control).

Of course and I totally understand -- there are a few things it doesn't do I'd love it to as well, but such is life.  We make the suggestions for future updates or other versions and hope they're able to integrate them!

I just read the discussion and wanted to add that I also regret the mixer doesn't have built in effects. Currently there is no Pioneer mixer/controller which could let you use DJ software/CDs/Vinyls and add effects, the same time having a control over DJ software.

It would be great if the DJM-T2 had built in effects. Currently I'm at a stage where I would like to switch to Pioneer mixer with built in effects, but there is really no mixer which controls software and have the built-in effects. I was considering DJM-900 Nexus which is a great unit but I don't want to bother re-mapping it. It is not the same as having a ready product.

I see that you are quite often upgrading and modifying your controllers and I hape you will soon release DJM-T1FX (?) or DJM-T2 which would have built in effects and curve control of channels volume. Pendrive recording would be also great as when you are playing a set mixing CDs/vinyls and Traktor at the same time you have to use an additonal software like Audacity to record the set. I think users of Macs may have difficulties here due to lack of Line-in mini-jack connection.
