DJM 2000 soundcard - Why does it have only 2 input channels?

It would be perfectly possible for the DJM 2000 to be Traktor Scratch Certfied mixer if its soundcard would be able to have 4 inputs.

Why doesn't it?

Could they be added via a firmware/driver update?

Please don't answer this wishy-washy! If you have to dig deep for a technical answer, please do so!

I know that DJM 350, CDJ 2000 and DJM 2000 were Pioneer's first tries for a dedicated soundcard. That shouldn't stop you however from improving the DJM 2000.

@Hedgehog > The DJM-2000 is able to do this already. ;)

You can set it to have 8 Channel Outputs and 0 Channel Inputs, or you can set it up to record by using 6 Channel Outputs and 2 Channel Inputs.

Please check Pulse's video  HERE.

Also just to mention, the DJM-350 doesn't have a built in sound card.

Thanks for your answer.

What I'm looking for would be at least 4 Channel Inputs.

The 2000 can't be used for Traktor input because it only has one pair of ins.  The original intention of the mixer was that the 2 inputs would be used for recording purposes, not timecode input.

Yeah I figured that's what the 900 is for.

Still, why not change it and enable the Traktor-developers to allow for timecode input? Having the DJM 2000 TSP-certified would be really sweet. I don't see a (political) reason preventing it from being done.

I'm sure Traktor would have to get $$$ from the sale of each unit.

No matter what, due to the disability of the DJM-2000 to operate properly with Windows 7 x64, as well as it's only 1 pair of Inputs, I had to buy a Native Instruments Audio 10  in order to use it with TSP.

I remember having an Ecler Evo 5 a couple years ago which I sold due to fake promises of the Ecler company for a proper driver that would support 64bit versions of windows. Luckily I also one an Allen & Heath Xone:4D which has both timecode functionality and proper 64bit drivers for win 7.

I already mentioned it in the past. No matter the initial purpose of the DJM-2000, this purpose failed. Almost every user wants the DJM-2000 usability and functions, combined with a 8in/8out soundcard (4 stereo pairs) and PROPER   x64 drivers for windows 7 (and the soon available windows 8).

The 8in/8out could possibly be offered as a sound interface PCB upgrade for the DJM-2000 owners and for a certain amount (i.e. for 200-300 EUR).

Why wouldn't pioneer consider this as an option? Mackie did so in the past with their brilliant d.2 Pro and d.4 Pro mixers and they offered the Audio Interface module upgrade which was also TSP Certified, for an amount aroudn to this range.

I love the build and the appearance and features of the DJM and I do not want to see it wasted due to the lack of proper prediction of the use intension by the users.

The DJM-900 should be DJM-2000's little brother. Not as many people consider it as equivalent or better due to just a multi I/O Audio Interface. This is insane!

This is my thought about the DJM.I felt I should share it with all of you...

I use my djm 2000 with windows 7 64 bit (dell latitude i5 w/ 8GB ram) and I have had no issues that I can recall.

What issues are you experiencing? I also use a gaming program to shut off all the extra garbage processes you would not need.

I hope that helps you but I'm curious what issues you have too.

Cheers
