The 600 has a low pass filter (LPF) not a high pass filter (HPF). Ensure the mixer is in good working order when you purchase it - ask the previous owner if they have ever brought the unit for a service etc. Check all connections.
I'm contemplating on buying a DJM-600 this week. I was wondering, how is the filter on it? Is it a HPF/LPF? I've been trying to find information about it, and I can't seem to find anything about it.

The DJM 600 has an auto filter in the effects section which is controlled by an LFO. There are no manual filter pots like you find on the 800, 700, 900 or 2000 models. The autofilter does indead cut high and low frequencies in one full cycle of the LFO. It does however go low pass first.
DJM 600's are not very good mixers they are very outdated and have inferior sound quality compared to more modern mixers, This is well documented on the web you would be better to spend your money on a less featured but higher quality mixer.
If you want a manual filter(i suspect you do) check out the DJM 350 or 250. If you need 4 channel and a manual filter your looking DJM 700.
