DJM 2000 nexus beat slicer question

Will the beat slicer on the new 2000 nexus work with input from software such as serato and traktor?  Or do I HAVE to have audio running from rekordbox on a CDJ to use it?  I just want to know whether this feature will be worthless to me if I'm not using a CDJ.  I'd like to to input audio and use the beat slicer with traktor as all my music is managed in that software.  I don't want to have to reanalyze and re-beat grid all my tracks in rekord box to take advantage of this feature.  Am I out of luck or is the beat slicer flexible enough to do that?  Thanks.

You can use the Beat Slice features etc on ANY input. You don't need the CDJ2000nexus specifically.

Sounds good, so then I don't need to be feeding it something connected to the DJ Pro link or rekordbox to work properly?  I can just spit unfiltered audio from Traktor or whatever audio source and it will still work?  I understand it reads rekordbox beat grid quantization to slice the sample up, but I hope it doesn't fundamentally rely on that to function.

I don't believe anyone has specified that it actually uses RekordBox beatgrids.  It's just speculation.

For sure it will use the Bpm clock that the djm have inside, and that should be more accurate with files that have been analysed through rekordbox with Link.

No, Rekordbox isn't needed. You record the sample and then chop it up as you feel fit.

Ok, this is from the press release:

"Two additional functions, Beat Slice and Sync Master, were added to the mixer to take advantage of the Pro DJ Link connection"

If RekordBox isn't required, then why is it  listed as a Pro DJ Link feature?  OR... is the information passed onto it from the CDJ over the Link?  Although the CDJs don't generally generate information like Quantize, the waveform and BPM (reliably (!)), they get all they need to know from RekordBox too.  To be fair, this isn't exactly information that we require, but it would be nice to know what's going on.

I agree with Fredrik F... Speculation....I think the beat slicer uses only the BPM clock on the DJM to determine the duration of the sample (based on 4 or 8 beats at that BPM) and how/where to chop it up. Having said that, when using rekordbox analysed files via the Pro DJ Link with the DJM Quantize on, the DJM clock is locked to the BPM of the analysed track rather than the DJM having to determine what the BPM is, which should result in a tighter sample/beat slice. So Pro DJ Link and rekordbox analysed files aren't a necessity to use beat slicer, but I think using those two functions will definitely result in a tighter beat slice/mix.

@Mark90 if you check out the DJM2kNXS manual, Beat Slice is not listed as a ProDJ Link feature. I've noticed sometimes the press releases and firmware update info can be unclear...

Just looking at the manual again, there is a section in the beat slice function menu where you can select the source of the BPM to be used for the sample; (1) the channel being sampled, (2) the Master Sync value, or (3) manual BPM setting (where you can tap the beat).

Well if that's the case then Pioneer need to up their game because that IS false advertising.

when using anything beside rekordbox cdj pro link  you must input the the BPM Manual to sync in time with the slicer (Traktor, Serato ,vinyl and etc.)

I have used tractor and its off by a a long shot.  I have to tap it in on the dam 2000 and set it that way.

I also have realised its off when using Rekordbox 4.0 when i load it straight from the mac in performance mode.. whats happening?

Has this been settled ? I'm still struggling to get my beat slicer to marry up with traktor!

Anyone? Someone?
