[CLOSED] HDJ 2000: bad quality plastic

Hi all,

I've been the first one putitng pictures on this forum with broken plastic parts on the arches. The first time I tried these headphones I was extremely pleased because of the overall quality and confort, the price was way high but I decided to throw away my V700 and my old HDJ1000.

The arches got broken 3 times, they had been serviced twice, and the third time they replaced the headphones with a new pair. After some months the well known plastic issue came up on the new pair....I'm currently spinning music with a ugly tape on the arch trying to keep the plastic piece together with the rest.

In the past years I had pretty similar issues with the HDJ1000 (arches broken twice), as well as no issues at all with my previous (very solid) sedj5000.

My question is: why spending almost 300 hudrend bucks to have such these problems?

I've been deejaying for almost 12 years...the HDJ2000 are the last Pio gear out of the overall equipment....all the rest went for the competitors, better value for money...

Having owned a pair of HDJ-2000's since they first came out, taking them to plenty of gigs and plenty of international travel, I can't say I've ever had a single problem with my pair, or the dozens of pairs that we've abused at trade shows / user shows / demonstrations, even after I've twisted the headband into a pretzel.  Do you just have an extremely large head or perhaps is it how you handle / store the headphones?  If you had the same problem with the replacement headphones, why didn't you contact support for repair / replacement again?

Pulse, I've been surfing on this forum for over 10 years since I was one of the first owner of a cdj1000 in Italy.

I've owned lots of Pio gear because of their pretty estabilished quality and reliability but prices went way up compared to competitors.

Sold my cdj1000 and never replaced them with the overpriced (but nice) 2000.

I fell in love with the hdj2000 because of their extreme confort and the solid feeling...but...me and several other customers encountered the same problem. Many pictures have been already loaded. As I faced up with some people at the service center, they told me not to pick up the headphones from the cups but open ithem from the middle of the arches. This could have been the only way to prevent the plastic cracks around the screws in the internal part of the arches. As a club dj, this is almost impossible to do...handle the headphones from the middle of the arches is very hard and uncomfortable. The fact is....months after months, even for a skinny head like mine and me that I take extremly care of my equipment (SE-DJ5000 worked fine for 7 years), handling the headphones from the cups...putting them on and off (during a gig this happens at least 40 times per night, I spin once in a week) this will cause 100% some cracks in the middle of the internal arches.

I'm pretty sure Pioneer Italy, which replaced me the first pair after lots of complains, will never replace the second pair, which was not defective as the first, the project of this headphones is defective

It's my understanding that they addressed that concern and if you have a newer pair and still have the problem that they may replace it, if not, they'd certainly repair it.

In Italy we have a 24months warranty. Headphones bought late december 2009...serviced twice during 2010 (arch replacement), replaced in spring 2011...got broken again last months...I'm sure nobody would replace the headphones again

The replacement headphones shouldn't be covered by the existing warranty, they should carry their own warranty from point of replacement.

Sorry to say, after trying to get my hdj2000 repaired, Pioneer Italy refused to do it, so that I'm spinning music with an ugly piece of tape on the left arch.

This headphone is the last Pio piece out of my equipment...just to inform you that I've been registered on this forum for over 11 years and had many Pio equipment....stating that TODAY Pio is way expensive and the quality (and italian servicing) not so "state of the art", I'd better go for competitor's new headphones

@delollisDJ > What was their reason for refusal to repair?

the reason was "this time we won't apply a free-of-charge" servicing

there's no "because", only a negative answer after 2 servicing (replaced arches) and 1 headphone replacement. The last broken arch came on the replaced headphone 1 year later

I have the same problem on both sides with my headphones. I've had my headphones for a little over a year and the reason I bought them was because of the all metal construction at the hinges and how Pioneer's marketing would claim that these are the only headphones you will ever need to buy. I called the 800 number on the top right and they told me that of coarse, the headphones are out of waranty and there's no bulletin out for this issue. With so many people having this same issue, I find it hard to believe that Pioneer would not come out with a bulletin. At $350, these were my most expensive headphones in my 27 years of DJ'ing and they're the headphones that lasted me the least amount of time. I've owned plenty of Pioneer equipment and I can honestly say that these headphones will probably be the last piece of Pioneer gear I will ever buy.

@John > I've been carrying around my pair for the last 4 years in all sorts of environments - planes, trains, skiing, DJing (mobile + bar work), gaming etc and they're as good as the day I bought them. This is certainly far from a widespread issue - much is down to how they are handled / stored during transport / not in use etc.

I'm sorry you had a problem with your pair - have you tried contacting the store where you purchased them?

Gavin, with all do respect, you can't possibly be telling me that every single person on this forum that is complaining about these headphones breaking in the same damn spot is caused because we are not handling the headphones the right way while transporting them. I take care of my gear, especially these headphones because I paid a lot of money for them. If we were all mishandling these headphones they would be breaking in different spots but the fact of the matter is we are all having the same issue with them which leads me to believe that it's a manufacturers defect. There's a guy on here that had his replace 3 times due to the same problem.

I have now handle in my pair to service. I needed a pair while they are on service so I just bought a pair of Allen & Heaths xd2-53 headphones and they are good. Hope the pair I got back from the service will last longer!

I hade some problems with my HDJ 2000 mk1, "first batch", and after 1 repair and 1 changeout, i got tired and took the matter in my own hands, and fixed them myself, no more problem, that say something about the service you get as a paying customer.

My phones have been working flawless about 1 year now, not a single glitch or dropout, its just a shame, as they do work now as they were ment to do in the first place, just got alot of hassle with service, shipping and handeling the phones, not to mention the time without them, trying to do my job. but i coped, i have a few phones to choose from. but its not the point. i hope these errors have been adressed in the new batches to come!

Cheers!

@Dexter > These are isolated reports. Given the quantity of units shipped there is nothing to suggest that there is a manufacturing issue - I'm not doubting the claims of the users above - but in all my time at Pioneer I've never seen units appear with such damage that was caused from normal wear and tear.

isolated reports you mean, same same issue on 2 different pairs, same user who takes extremely care of his equipment....except for this issue my headphones look just as new....I'm laughing...

@delollisDJ > If you read my comment you will see I say "_I'm not doubting the claims of the users above". _It does seem like you've been misfortunate with your pair but there hasn't been any reported manufacturing defect.
