[SOLVED] RMX-1000 effecting sound without any fx turned on??

Greetings from Italy everybody and sorry for bothering..

Just came home with the new baby, got the time to plug it in and star playing with it when I noticed something weird(at least to me!).

How is it possible that the sound is being somewhat "effected" without a single fx being used?

To make it short: when you have a track playing through the rmx, till you keep the output knob to 0, the sound is just like as it should be,

but as soon as I rise the output level, the track is being affected by "something".. and this is not as it should be I guess,

even disabling the input source wont help? howcome? I mean, no sound should be processed but the song changes anyway!

the only way I have to get the song as it should be, is just by turning the output knob to 0.

The rmx should stay "quiet" just as long as I don't tell it to do something... is my unit flawed?

Any other guys experiencing the same?

thank you!! ^_^

Fabio

Not sure how you're having an effect without any of the functions engaged.  Have you tried updating the firmware on the unit?

I'm about to update the firmware right now, but I can tell you, even with NO input source activated, just by turning the output knob from 0 to something, the track get some sort of reverb/echo that should not be there...

update done, but the flaw is always there! no input selected, no efx activated, and the song is not as it should be, "plain vanilla"...

this is unacceptable for a device that costed me almost 700 euros!

I'm getting mad about this! I want to hear the song as it should be without any changes, but it's not possible!!

Sorry, I just tested mine and I'm not getting anything like what you're describing.  Can you check your connections and ensure that you don't have any effects engaged anywhere else (like on the mixer)?

hi there guys and thank you for the support, I just made the "final" test by connecting a cdj directly to the rmx, and the sound is just perfect!

the rmx is connected with send/return to a xone 42 and I start thinking now  that the problem is in the mixer, everything is cabled as it should be and the connection switch is also set properly.. Pionix, may I ask you what mixer are you using?

@Fabio > I think I know what the problem is with the 42, you're getting a slight delay between the original (dry) and effected (wet) signal.  What you need to do is eliminate the dry source and only have the auxiliary bus coming through.

My Mixer is a Djm2000 (unfortunately not what you wanted to hear)

my suggestion would be to by a djm 2000 or a djm 900 that will sort it :)

@Pulse: thank you for the hint! I will try it as soon as you could kindly explain me what you mean with "only have the auxiliary bus coming through", sorry but I really lost you there! ^_^

@Pionix: why what I do not want to hear? :D music, mixers, cdjs.. everything is like ice cream! I'm really happy that there is a flavour for everyone! I will never "argue" about the fact that you like chocolate while I go nuts for vanilla... would you? :-)

I'd love to get my hands on a Nexus, but for my budget the 42 was just the perfect fit.

all the best guys, and thank you again for the support!

@Fabio > If you are sending audio to the AUX loop but don't kill the channel, you'll have both the channel and AUX coming through and because of the circuitry, there will be a slight delay in the two signals, possibly sounding like there's a delay or effect.  So when you send audio to the AUX, just pull the fader down on that channel - you should still hear the music from that channel but only what's being sent through the AUX.

@Fabio > I don't own a Xone 42 but I've been looking at it and reading the manual.  Pulse is right, though on the Xone 42 it appears they've changed it from other A&H mixers which use 'Aux'.  From what I can tell, you need to do the following:

Connect the RMX to the X:FX Send/Return (as you have done already)

Ensure that the 'X:FX' knob on each channel (below the Filter buttons) are turned fully clockwise to the right, so they are set to 'Wet'

This configuration will effectively disable the filters, unless you turn on the 'X:FX Return to Filter' button on the right.  This will enable you to filter the sound that comes out of the RMX.

The X:FX knobs control how much audio you hear from the mixer, and how much you hear from the send/return.  All the way to the left (Dry) means you won't hear anything from the RMX.  In the middle, you'll hear half and half - this is what I think is happening at the moment.  And to the right you hear only what comes out of the send/return - this is what you want.

hmm interesting...

@mark , you would prefer that the Level / depth on the djm 2000 would act like a dry / wet instead of a volume control how it is right now... I think we would encounter the same problem if it was like that ?

@TheOne > You have a very good point!  The dry/wet option would be awesome, but you are right, we would most probably suffer the same issue.  That's why the RMX needs it's own wet/dry control, like the EFX had.  But Pioneer decided to remove it.  I think Pioneer's product and R&D people are so focussed on new ideas and innovation, they inadvertently sideline the tried, tested and relied upon classic controls.

Yeah, sorry, I forgot they changed the name on the 42 to X:FX instead of AUX (but it's really still the same thing).

The reason the S/R level send isn't like an AUX loop is to simplify the process and prevent level-doubling - I would love it to work like a proper wet/dry knob, but that's always in my suggestion list for future models (and has been for a while).  ;)
