cdj 1000mk3 US decks

I bought my cdj 1000mk3 when living in USA but now back in Ireland. As the AC in says 120V 60Hz 28W I bought a transformer so I could use them in Ireland (the transformers are quite heavy and can be a pain to carry around). Recently when playing in a club my friend accidently plugged one of the decks directly into the power socket. It just turned on and didnt burn up, however I was quick to unplug it just in case. The CDJ is still playing perfectly so I was wondering is there a switching circuit inside the deck that will allow it to be plugged into irish power sockets? Or did I just unplug it in time before it burnt up?

Your feedback much appreicated.

I dont think you will get an official statement from pioneer telling you that its ok. But i have suspected that all CDJ's (of each type) are built the same way and just have there own region stickers put on them. There are a lot of reason behind why the do that (trade agreements and such) but i think the 1000mk3 are all capable of being plugged into your power. But I still wouldn't do it, if it was me. you could take them to a electronics repair place and pay them to open it up and look at the power supply and have them test if it is truly capable of receiving the power output there.

@Patrick Yore > I think you're pretty lucky. lol You/"your friend" should never plug in a Pioneer product to another regions outlet without using a transformer. All Pioneer products are stated to work in specific regions and should only be operated in said region without a transformer. Also, you should never take your Pioneer products to an unauthorized dealer, especially if they plan on opening the unit.

I'll just say I think you got away with a close one as I've seen many people blow electronics in foreign countries. lol

Piece of advice, don't let your friend handle your gear until you've made it 100% clear it needs the transformer, or just don't let them touch it at all. ;)

Some CDJ1000s were built with auto-switching power supplies, much like a laptop -- but I know that doesn't hold true for every region's model so no, we do NOT recommend that you test the theory by plugging the mains lead into an electrical outlet with a voltage different from the label on the back.
