I just played around for the last half an hour with the new firmware and it is really hard for me to notice that much of a difference. I had been previously noticing loops drift, like many on here had mentioned. In fact, until I read about on there, I kept thinking my beat matching was crap since I was constantly adjusting loops. As soon as master tempo got turned off, loops held. Right now I toyed with two exact loops, one with master tempo engaged, and one without. I had them perfectly synched, nice flanger due to phasing, didn't hear any pulling apart of the two loop. For my own curiosity tried the same thing at +2/4 percent.

I am still not totally sure if I am hearing what I want to hear, or if the firmware is actually improved. Hindsight, I should have updated one player for direct comparison.

Bear in mind this update is only fixing 3 (well, who knows what undocumented changes there were - Pioneer...?) specifically reported bugs.  Namely the 1 frame loop issue, the Master Tempo engage blip and the popping MP3 bug.

I've done my testing and come to my conclusion, I'd just like to see comment from others and the Pioneer reps first.

I just tried out this:

same mp3, from same source (external hdd), i used loop cutter to make a 4 beat loop in one of the players, pitch at 0% and:

  1. master tempo enabled, quantize disabled.

2. master tempo disabled, quantize enabled.

  1. booth ms and quantize disabled.

  2. booth ms and quantize enabled.

result was always: after 15-20 seconds the beat don't match anymore.

Don't know if this is normal or not, i don't really care, if that happens i use my nice hands and correct the bpm's, but.. when this is a bug, it should be fixed. (booth players updated with 4.05 firmware)

Thanks Pioneer

Two problems i repeatedly reported are gone.

The 1 frame loop bug and the interference in playback some mp3 files.

oooooooooooooooooooo I'm late! And it seems most people too!! Such silence!

To update or not to update. That's the question.

Joking!

I will leave the safety of 4.01 and try this time. I hope I won't regret... Will do it tomorrow, Saturday morning I will have a word (good I hope) to post about it here. But 50ms... uhn... dunno if that was really the case hahhahaha. We will see :)

I think most ppl here wont upgrade to new firmware, unless the see here a few posts that will say that everything is working properly.

I updated to new firmware and everything seems fine. However I only mixed a couple of tracks.

I will check again tomorrow for more information, especially when MT is on.

Firmware v4.05 fixes all 3 of the specific issues that it addresses:  The 1 frame loop bug, the MT blip bug and the popping MP3 bug.  If you are running v4.04 then there's no reason not to upgrade to v4.05.

As for other, wider issues, such as the general performance of MT.  These appear unchanged and are still in need of further improvements and enhancements.

so the fixes actually remedy the previous update.

kind have thought that as i was expecting the full fix of MT and hence going from 4.x.y to 5.0.0

For MT fix, as i already said in old forums, it 'should' work in the next generation of decks ... i'm afraid ...

If master tempo can not be fixed then that is disgusting. For such an expensive deck not to do a simple thing that Denon (which I have exclusively used for years) nailed over ten years ago is appalling. If anyone is any doubt about this problem then play Swedish house maffia - one with MT on and pitch it up to +10. If this can not be fixed "in this generation of hardware" then pioneer should hang their heads in shame. Apart from that these decks are amazing

I played last night, 4 hours, no issues with decks (other then my cue button getting stuck in, damn crappy play/cue buttons). The system wasn't good enough to see if MT was improved but I doubt it, this seemed like a minor release

I'll Add my 2 cents.

First off I've been using CD's, as Rekordbox has hardly worked for me and for reasons of "x y z". But Scenario is that i'm using CD's

In 4.04, I noticed like some other users on these forums, Thought our looping or beating matching was fail.

Master Tempo to me has a significant drift issue no matter how much you ride the pitch. Mixing about 15-30 seconds you'll start hearing the B-Boom

Master Tempo OFF, has been quite well, as always of course. I spin mainly house music and MT doesnt really need to be on.

Looping in 4.04 as everyone knew had a one frame bug. This is Fortunatly, out of the window. I have very precise loops that can mix for 1-2 minutes atleast before hearing anything remotely needing to fix. THIS IS WITH CD'S NOT WITH REKORDBOX ANALYZED SONGS.

In my opinion, CDJ 2000 Firmware 4.05 is smashingly better than 4.04. I dont see why anyone should not be upgrading. And some users on these forums have posted already, this Firmware is mainly fixing bugs, and it did just that.

To summaraize

"IF YOUR CDJ 2000 FIRMWARE IS V4.04, THAN FIRMWARE V4.05 IS PROBABALY THE RIGHT CHOICE OF UPGRADE."

I cannot speak for any other versions or format of music being used ont he CDJ 2000

I haven't updated to 4.0.5 yet (I'm running 4.0.4) so if this new update is minor and offers fixes to loop issues, I don't see any reason not to update. A couple of side notes (opinions ahead...)  First, I hope that the next "major" firmware update includes 2 changes that I think many people would like to see, the first being the option to remove the right hand side of the screen so the entire track is available in the list 'at a glance' (album art is unnecessary) and second,  I'd like to see my decks be able to recognize and mark tracks that I've played already (maybe by color, like serato) during sets on the various memory I have connected, preferably until the units are turned off, then the 'marking resets' so everything is fresh for the next set.  These are options I would really enjoy having.  If you agree, feel free to comment!  Thanks!

Paul, The decks do mark the tracks as played in dark green, Am i missing something you are tying to explain?

It doesn't change the color on mine.  To be specific, I'm talking about my situation, where Im using USB sticks and SDhc cards with the raw files on them, not through rekordbox.  when a song is played, there is no color change or other marking once I switch to a different song to indicate that I've played the previous one if I scroll back to it...

oh ok, I always have used RB so not sure how the decks react when not using analyzed files

I would say the same for when i use CD's, as i'm assumign teh cdj 2000 has no memory to store any info of that sort. Hence, why music analyzed by RB is beneficial to the usage of the cdj 2000. Unfortunatly, RB is too unstable for me to feel comfortable at the moment. I dont like see errors.

Guys, rekordbox is needed just for analyze and exportation of mp3's to external drive (like a usb stick or hdd). You don't need a laptop and rekordbox all the time. I use that way to play, and i have no errors for more than 5-6 month's. The only issue for me is the speed of exportation to a usb stick (cause to a hdd is much faster). But i'm using a ssd usb drive and so i solved that problem too. I repeat: no errors when i use from rekordbox exported mp3's to my hdd.

I've had many issues with the files i import to RB than export out. I've had issues with Link feature alot so i refrained to USB but that was unstable so i went Back CD. But this is not part of this particular subject. Firmware is still decent upgrade if your current firmware is 4.04.

No import issues at all.. I recomend: when importing mp3's to "clean" them from any kind of tags by using some software like tag and rename. I know it would be time-painfull to do that (the first time) but it is worth it for the time after..
