A few more bugs to fix with the CDJ900....

After using my decks for a couple of days 3 hours each day I found a couple of flaws I'm pretty sure are CDJ related

  1. One of the decks the platter is bang on accuracy when scratching, the other will lose its place while scratching at a desired point, for ex; if I choose to scratch a section of a beat/word I'll place my hand at 9:00 position on the jog wheel I'll start scratching and after say 10-15 seconds my hand will end up at 12:00 while scratching at the same point and if I were to move my hand back to the 9:00 position (without taking my hand off the jog wheel) it would be off.

This is while using Serato I haven't tried it with USB or CD yet but the thing is the other deck doesn't have the same issue.

  1. I do allot of Weddings, I bought these CDJ's mainly because if something happens to my Lap Top I can quickly switch to my USB drive without missing a beat. In order to do this I have ch 1 & 2 dedicated to HID/ Serato via USB cable and CH 3 & 4 dedicated to USB Drive via RCA (my backup).

When all these cables are hooked up to my mixer I get Awful static and what seems to be an electrical grounding issue, if I unhook the RCA cables it goes away, if I leave the RCA cables in and unhook the USB cables it goes away  if all cables are plugged in the mixer static comes back. Because this sound is so bad I have to leave my RCA's unplugged which is a PITA if I ever need to use my USB during a gig.

Oh and as mentioned before in another thread I would have thought between Rane/Serato and Pioneer someone would have figured out how to enable slip mode while using Serato, both companies had the innovation to create the software & hardware of 2 wonderful products so there is no excuse.

@Roy > Re: issue 1, please use a CD to test - this will help determine if it's a problem with the jog or software.

2: The static issue is possibly due to your computer -- try unplugging the power supply next time and see if the noise persists.  Worst case scenario is that you may have a ground-loop between the computer and the rest of your system and may require a hum eliminator or ground lift.

As for slip mode, that's up to Serato to implement.

@Pulse. for issue I yes it looks like it is the power form the computer, I unplugged the power supply and no noise. You mentioned there is something I can buy to eliminate the noise? where would I purchase this?

for issue 2 I tried a USB and the jog is fine so why is it doing it with Serato only??

I hope I don't have to update my software to the latest version I keep hearing people having the pitch go out of wack while in a mix causing the beats not to be matched. I'd rather put up with a little jog wheel issue than have my mixes go out of wack making me look like a noob.

Thanks for the help!.......now I just have to fix these problems and I'll be good to go.

@Roy > I'm not sure why the jog is reacting that way with the software, which version of Scratch Live are you running?  Are you connecting the CDJs via a USB hub?

As noted in another thread, the pitch complaints come from Master Tempo using USB or CD sources, nothing to do with software.

With regards to the hum issue, try something like this.

Ok. Regarding the ground noise from the computer where would I be able to buy a hum eliminator?

Plenty of places sell them -- tons online, I'm sure lots of music retailers carry them too.  Not sure where you're located.

I've also noticed in CD and USB mode it takes a while for the beat grid to come up and sometimes even the BPM would this be fixed with v4.0.5?

There's a difference between CD and USB audio as CDs can not be analysed through Rekordbox.  Is your USB content exported from Rekordbox?  That would be the likely reason that it's slow to appear.

Actually no I haven't moved all my files yet, I'll do that and try again.

Thanks.

I  went to a computer electronics store on the weekend, the guy didn't really understand what noise I was getting, all he offered me was a better power bar.

You need to ask for a feedback eliminator or ground loop isolator -- in either case it's an isolation-transformer you're looking to purchase; DO NOT let them sell you a ground-lift which simply eliminates the ground pin as that is an electrical hazard and illegal in many places.

I must be doing something wrong here so someone help me out. If I'm doing a set using my CDJ's in HID mode linked to Serato and I want to pop in a CD of a track someone else has how do I switch the deck to play a CD? now before you go and say "just press the Disc button on your left" I tried that and it doesn't work the only solution I found to work is shut the CDJ off than turn it back on and the CD will read and play. Please tell me there is a way to do this properly. Also another stupid thing I found out is if I'm in HID mode using Serato and I put a USB drive in one of the players I can't link the 2 in USB mode why is that? is it because I'm already linked in Serato??

I'm having the same problem when scratching with Serato.... Start at around 9oclock on the jog wheel and a couple of seconds later i end up at 12oclock. Is there a work around for this issue?

I wasn't able to reproduce that here -- it's the CDJ900 you're using?  What version of SL are you running?

An update, now that I have version 2.10 I,ve noticed the lag id back when scratching in slip mode. This was the same issue happening with version 4.0.0. So to the Pioneer techs could you pleas review this issue? I use slip mode frequently and its annoying having to re-match the beats to get them dead on again. This issue happens with all media types so its not my computer or USB or CD.

I know my last thread was removed maybe because I wasa bit harsh but in all fairness I just got the players the way that I wanted and now the issue is back.... hopefully that was the reason and not Pioneer ignoring me and/or not wanting to rectify the issue.
