XDJ-RX: Cracking Noises while pressing CUE on non active channel

Hi guys,

If a quiet song plays on channel 1, and I press CUE on channel 2 (which is not up to hear on master) I got a random cracking noises on the master, booth and cue output... sometimes more sometimes less. I cant find a logic behind this...

My music store (thomann) cant find the issue, so they send it over to you (pioneer) and your team didnt find the problem too :(

The borrow device from thomann had the same issue...

Any Idea?! Sucks rly..

Some mp3 to check:

I already tried it over lan/wlan (rekordbox) or usb, with 100 of various tracks..

Maybe u got a tip for me...

Thanks for the reply Mark.

I dont use my XDJ-RX over rekordbox, so your tipp doesnt make sense to me.
I just use the lan connection to play music from rekordbox.

Any other tip?

Is that the deck cue or headphone cue you're pressing?

I press the cue button above the play-button, or what do you mean?

That's the deck cue.

Just to confirm, the channel fader is down and it makes the crackling noise only while you're pressing the button or does the sound continue after you release it?

Does it happen every time you press the button?

Does it happen on the CH1 CUE button as well?

Yes, you are right, the channel fader is down, and I only got crackling noises If I press the button. It does not always happen, there is no recognizable logic behind it.

And yes, its on both Channels.

Sorry, is it only when you press and hold the button or does it crackle when you press and release the button (and the crackling continues -- or if so, does the crackling continue)?

Have you tried using the unit at another location, ie. at another home or work, somewhere that might not have the same possible electrical interference as at your current location?

The noises are only generated one time by pressing the button once, it doesnt matter if I hold or release. I'm already trying it all over the house.

So your diagnosis is an electrical fault?

No, just trying to determine all the possible sources / causes!

Within the house itself may not distance you enough from the possible source of any electrical noise, since some devices can emit signals that travel through the main circuit box and contaminate other circuits in the building as well.

Ok, so I will try it on a different Location, and after that I will give some feedback.

Is there a device which removes interference?

You could certainly try it with an electrical isolation transformer, but all of this is assuming that there is an electrical noise causing this issue -- which, again, is speculation on my part, and wanting to ensure that we've eliminated that as a possible cause.

Do you have it hooked-up to anything else when this happens, or just headphones? If you're using a set of speakers connected to the master outputs, does it happen with both the XLR and RCA outputs? With a different set of speakers?

As you can see, I'm trying to eliminate all the variables and narrow things down to the exact cause - thanks for bearing with all my questions!

The crackle sound is on my headphones, on the booth output and on the master via chinch, as you can hear on the dropbox links.

I also tried it with headphones only, same Problem, so I did not try the other variants.

Thanks for youre help dude, so far!

I'm going to escalate this to the XDJ-RX product team -- but can you tell me which Pioneer service department had a look at the unit?

Hi Pulse, thanks!
Unfortunately, I do not know. But I will ask my buying provider!

Hi again,

my buying provider (thomann) sent the device to the official service partner of the manufacturer, the Pioneer Service-Workshop Brückner.

Okay thanks - let me send that info to the product support team and see what they recommend from here. Thanks for your patience!

Hi Guys,

trying to open this topic up again, doesn't seem to be solved yet, I'm having the same issue on my XDJ-RX. Doesn't matter which source I'm using, but it only appears sporadically. But the the same cracking sound appears on the Master when loading a track onto the passive deck, also here no matter what source I'm using. And it also appears more often than by pressing the Cue-button, almost every single time.

Can you guys help?

The same problem for me, but I just have this crashes when I connect the monitors by the output (booth) when I press the (cue) button it makes a little click (clipping) but when the outputs are connected to master this disappears ... I do not know if someone has happened to him, or just is that this is the case (even though I find it strange that this is the case). It does not always clipping when you press the cue, only very occasionally. I have my xdj-rx2 updated to the latest firmware. But I already did from the previous version. Otherwise the machine walks wonderfully.
Thank you very much in advance, any response is appreciated.

@Carlos > There can be some inherent interference or cross-talk in the circuitry; if this only occurs on the headphones or booth monitors, that's more acceptable than the master output.

Thank you very much for your comment. What do you think I should do? I just bought this equipment just 3 days ago. I really feel very disappointed with pioneer ... It's my first team of the brand and I think it will be the last. I have always had it as a quality reference for DJs. But I just realized that it is not like that. I do not understand how a team that costs a few thousand euros already comes with frabica problems. Maybe I should change it for another new unit? Thank you very much in advance.

@Pulse > Hello Pioneer DJ Team,

I have this problem but with the master output in addition to other audio outputs. I don't know if I have to send it back to the store for a possible exchange or wait for an update of the internal software. What should I do ? I got my XDJ-RX2 one week ago... I agree with Carlos that it's not very acceptable especially for a device at this price.

Thank you in advance for your return.

@David > Can you give me a description of the sound and when it occurs? What you might be doing / any functions (FX, loops, master tempo, etc) running at that time?

@Pulse > Without any function, loop, FX, or color effect activated or used at the same time. Just a little crack when I click on the CUE and pre-listening in the headphones, the channel fader is at the lowest position. Ordinary use. I can clearly hear it often from the speakers connected to the master output.
