DJM900NXS2 soundcard problem in Windows 10

Hello,

I just upgraded my DJM750MK2 mixer to a DJM900NXS2. I am using Rekordbox DJ on a windows 10 64bit computer (i5, 16gb, 250gb ssd). That is working almost fine. Sometimes Rekordox does not recognise the mixer, i cannot select "djm-900nxs2 asio" in that case. I have to disconnect the usb cable and insert it again, then it wil work fine.

But the biggest problem is using this mixer as soundcard in windows. With de DJM750MK2 I could use it as default soundcard so all my sounds from windows was routed true the mixer (like youtube, windows media player ect). But with this DJM900NXS2 mixer that's not posible. I can see the mixer as an output device in windows but when i select it there is no audio comming true. I connected this mixer to my wives Macbook Pro and it all works just fine.

Is there someone who can help mee with this please, so i can use this (most expensive) mixer as a regular windows soundcard? Thanks!

Best regards, Thom

PS: The mixer has the latest firmware and i installed the latest drivers from pioneer website. Windows 10 is fully updated also.

You probably don't want to try updating that to the newer 1803 build, do ya? ;)

Hello Pulse. Thank you for your advise. I had my Windows Pro set to automatic updates. For an unknown reason this update was'nt installed yet. So when I went to Windows update and clicked to see if there were any updates, the 1803 update was found and installed.

But the installed update did not had any effect on the behavior of the 900nxs2 as a soundcard in windows. When I select the 900nxs2 as output device for windows, no sound comes out the mixer. The mixer is connected to usb connector A and the selector switch from channel 1 is set to A.

Youtube video's will not start playing when 900nxs2 selected as output device. Also soundcloud mixes wil not start playing and the same go's for beatport pre-listening.

The windows version is 1803 now and the build is 17134.48

Do you have any more suggestions?

Thank you!

hej Thom and dear pioneer team,
I am facing exactly the same issue ! I have one of the best mixers on the planet (upgraded from 850 which had no issue with USB soundcard) and would urge you to check for a solution / driver / firmware update

my config
+ i7 surface pro (2017) 16gb
+ windows 10 build 17134 (spring creator latest update) x64

+ latest drivers and firmware installed on djm

everything is connected, driver tells me all should be fine, djm utility detects everything BUT when I want to use / play a sound then nothing happens (or eg audacity just freezes instead of playing, ....)

greetings from Vienna,
c

...and just one more interesting finding:

when i look in devicemanager/pioneerdjm 900nx2 => i see that apparently still a windows driver is active despite an successfull install of the pioneer drivers ???

Chiming in with a "me too" post.

Everything was working well then upgraded to the latest Windows 10 release (build 1803) and now experiencing exactly what cactüs has described in his posts above.

I noticed that in Device Manager the "DJM-900nexus' driver is installed by Windows. The "PIONEER DJM-900nexus" driver is installed when using the Pioneer provided driver installer. Tried disabling one, then selecting the other (and vice versa) in my audio application and no go (as in, no audio is output nor am I able to configure any options such as input/output routing as I was able to under the previous Windows build).

Strange thing is, I can select the DJM 900 as the primary audio source for Windows itself and it works fine...

Fingers crossed this one gets sorted out soon - love my mixer and keen to get back to using it!!

Cheers!

Thanks for the links Olivier however, they relate to a different issue to what I'm experiencing.

I gave it a shot regardless but sadly the ASIO driver for the DJM 900 still refuses to work as the audio source for the application I'm using.

Was hoping others who had upgraded to Windows 10 build 1803 were also experiencing the same issues and a solution would be available. Wait and see I guess!

Hi Folks,

Sinds I posted this message in may, I have a new 900nsx2 mixer (due to the fact I had a temorary one in the first place). I have the same problem with this mixer also. I connected the mixer to my work laptop also and the problem ocured even then. So the problem has to be in the drivers. I hope they wil fix this soon.

Best regards, Thom

Great! Thanks for reporting back, we'll pass that along to our engineers.

good morning - just tested a bit more in depth - following problem still exists:

in ableton 10 live:

+ DX driver works fine

+ ASIO kills MIDI inputs after 1 or 2 strokes (including sound) on the MIDI keyboard it gets silent (MIDI signal still seems detected as of abletons icons) BUT no more sound !

+ closing ableton and switching back to DX / MME driver - and everything is fine

BUT we all need ASIO support as latency is much less with ASIO

please check

thanx alot

Thanks for the link Pulse.

Have made a slight mistake... my mixer is actually the DJM-900NXS (not NXS2!). So the beta drivers didn't work at all (quite likely by design I'm sure).

Do you know if there's any focus by the engineers to review/update the drivers for this model? Current driver version (1.710) doesn't work under Windows 10 build 1803.

Cheers

Yeah, different product = different drivers.

Can you elaborate on what "doesn't work"?

Hey Pulse.

Sure, so what's not working for me anymore since upgrading to Windows 10 build 1803 is when I try to set the DJM900 as the audio source in two particular applications - Native Instruments Traktor Scratch Pro 2 (v2.11.3) and Maschine (v2.7.6). I am using the latest available driver package for the DJM900NXS mixer (1.710) and prior to upgrading to build 1803, both applications were working without issue.

I can confirm that the driver works if I set the sound output for Windows to be the mixer. I have also confirmed that the driver works for all other Native Instruments applications I use (Massive, Battery, Absynth, Kontact, etc...) - it's just Traktor and Maschine that have stopped working.

I wondered if there was an issue with the laptop I was using, so I did a clean install of Traktor and the DJM drivers (versions as previously mentioned) on a different laptop however, the issue remained.

To describe what happens, I go into the Audio settings for Traktor/Maschine and select "PIONEER DJM-900nexus ASIO" from the drop down menu. When it's working, it changes instantly, shows the sample rate (you can't see a value with the current issue) and I can then set input/output routing settings. I have noticed in Maschine when I try to select the DJM as the audio source that the status shows "Stopped" (normally shows "Running" when all good).

Thought it might be due to a particular service not running (via the Services control panel) but the DJM900 service that shows in the list (DJM-900nexus_AutoSetup) is running fine.

Understand that the problem may lie with the two Native Instruments applications, but as I said, all applications were operating fine prior to the Windows upgrade to build 1803. Thinking Microsoft has made a change somewhere that's causing the issues but that's pure speculation on my part.

Appreciate your assistance on this one Pulse. Let me know if you need me to provide any logs or other debug output that could help provide more info.

Cheers

Hi Everyone,

I was having the same issued! Windows 10, 100% up today. Rekordbox worked perfectly fine but I could not play music from iTunes directly to channel 1 of the mixer. Windows saw the DJM900nxs2 but just couldn't play music through it. I downloaded the beta drive that was posted here on June 7th, boom...works perfect!

@Greg > The reason Windows is able to play the audio when you have the Windows default selected is that's using the WDM or DirectX drivers, not ASIO.

Was the issue occurring when you had multiple applications open / running which would be using the ASIO drivers for the DJM?

Hi Pulse,

Thanks for clarifying how Windows sound is working via the mixer. Makes sense.

I only run a single app at a time (e.g. Traktor Scratch) so there shouldn't be any issues with driver locks caused by other programs. Not sure if there's a program that can confirm / list which apps have a given driver loaded to confirm if there's something else that's getting in the way, but as far as what's running / launched by me it's only a single app at a time.

Chiming in to this. Just spend 4 hours with Windows tech support. They told me to ask Pioneer DJ and stumble upon this thread. Im having the exact same issue. I have a Surface pro 6 AND a custom built Windows desktop. I installed current drivers as well as the older ones posted above with no avail.  My PC's will see it, i can select it as audio input, but no audio is being received...

That Funny,

I have exactly the same problem, I changed my mixer from the 900nxs to the 900nxs2 and the problem started.

I have the latest firmware installed, but it was running under windows 7, so I upgrade my pc to windows 10, but exactly the same issue.

The scarry part of it is that it works but sometimes the sound drops, and the only way to get it back is to restart the mixer.

You don’t want this in a live situation!

I checked drivers and reinstalled it but the issue remains, at the PC you see a output to the mixer, but there is no sound on the mixers channel.

If I replace the mixer for the old 900nxs the problem dissapears

This seems similiar to the issue I am having now.  I use my DJM 900 nxs 2 as the main audio input and output device for my PC.  However, with the new windows update going to version 2004 or higher, my audio breaks in a weird way where, if I am using the output, the input does not work, and if I am using the input, the output does not work.  Playback Device and Record Device basically cannot be used at the same time, and I am at a loss what to do to fix this.
