Many Issues DJM-S9 with Macbook Pro with touchbar

Hi, I have a DJM-S9(firmware 1.08) and 2017 touchbar Macbook pro 15" and I have many issues.

1- Hot-plug doesn't works.
2- I use DJ Tech Tools USB-C to USB-B cable and sometimes, I have another issue with my DJM-S9, the music stops, the touchbar doesn't goes black and works, If I connect the mixer in the opposite usb-c port, serato works again (no reboot needed and hot plug works only in this case)
3- Sometimes no DVS signal
4- Sometimes crossfader doesn't cuts

No issues in windows 10.

Hi Pulse, there are updates on the problem described above, do you know a release date of any new firmware? Now there's more than two years of this problem.

Hi, I check for firmware & drivers update every day, and I'm still waiting for new drivers, I had checked this just right now and the macOS driver for DJM-S9 and DJM-900NXS2 are the same than 2016.

Usually when it releases new drivers and firmware, you can see it on the pioneer site in the news section, but they have to decide it's not a problem for a month. Apple has released new macbook pro look forward to see if with the various hardware changes that have made there are problems also on this new model of Macbook pro with TB

Yes, I know this, but I'm check this everyday because, I'm desperate, because I can't use my 1800$ mixer with my 3000$ laptop.

Fortunately I have a window laptop, but I want a solution, my SX2 is class compilant and works fine on macbook, but I have bought a DJM-S9 and I want use it...

I can advise you to use a Usb-c Hub, with that I do not have hot disconnection problems, they should do all the profiling class compilation, so you are not dependent on drivers, I do not know if pioneer firmware can turn a mixer into class compilation , but I think it's a problem of internal components. But if you could eliminate the drivers permanently on mac os would be the best solution.

I had try some things, usb-c to usb-b clable by djtechtools, usb hubs, original mac usb-c adapter, but the real problem it's the drivers... If not have a solution I will sell my macbook or sell my S9 and i'll buy a Rane Seventy-Two.

Thanks, but this not solve the real problem, the real solution is a driver update, becasue if you disconect the hub (accidentally or voluntary) the touchbar goes black and hot plug doesn't work :/

I'm still waiting for pioneer dj :(

Yes this is not the solution, but I can tell you that if you use Apple Hub you will have the problem, if you disconnect this Hub nothing happens, at least in my case.

In my case, suddenly the audio disconnects, and i'm not had disconnect the usb cable. I reconnect the cable, and the hot plug works in this moment, but only in this moment.

Meanwhile, I cant trust in this laptop until pioneer dj makes a driver update.

Unfortunately I do not understand why the times to solve certain problems are so long.

This is a complex issue and requires work from both us and Serato to resolve. My understanding is the team is working on it but there isn't a definitive timeline as they're also working around OS issues (eg. the touchbar).

Thanks Pulse for the answer, I understand that it is not easy to solve this type of problem and I admire the commitment of the technicians pioneer and Apple, but you can confirm that the MacBook Pro with TB have been out for 3 years and the problem occurred immediately. So I wonder if the drivers give problems with this TB, why not try to make S9 a compliant  class replacing maybe the component that needs the driver? However if all your products needing specific drivers have this type of problem, and those class compliant  No, then you have to intervene at the hardware level.

"This is a complex issue" doesn't even come close to solving the issue.  Serato/PioneerDJ should be tracking major issues like this with ticket numbers and timelines to resolution.

@Beau > I see you've asked for an update to two different mixer / MacBook issues; the answer is the same - if using USB-C, try to use a powered USB hub, and do not disconnect the mixer from the computer during use.

Hey There,

I just purchased a 2300 EUR MacBook Pro and I can't get it to connect to my 1700 EUR Pioneer mixer.

Can anyone validate that if I spend even more money on a powered USB hub, this should solve my issue?

thanks...

@Christophe > When you installed the drivers, did you follow these instructions? It may sound silly, but many people miss this step and the issue isn't anything to do with hardware or cabling.

Hi Pulse, thanks for the quick reply.

I have, and it just never showed the possibility to “Allow” the access.

What I believe happened is the following:

Some old drivers were transferred from my previous MacBook to the new one when I used Apple’s Immigration Assistant to transfer my applications to my new MBP. This included drivers for my prévois Rane 62, Rane SL4 & some other “obsolete” or unused drivers.

When running the uninstall file from your website, the old DJM-S9 driver (DJM-S9Audio 1.1) wouldn’t disappear from the “disabled software” (to be found in Utilities —> System Information —> Disabled software.

I ended up finding its location on my drive and was able to delete it through a command that I found on google (to be run through Terminal).

Once this was done, I tried again as explained in the provided article and I was finally able to “Allow” the access in My System Preferences.

Once all the steps were finalized and I booted Serato again, it prompted my to allow access to the microphone.

I now finally have a functional setup (it just took me literally 9 hours to pinpoint and solve the issue).

FYI, I’m using a USB-B to USB-C cable directly from the mixer to my MBP, no hub used. I have played for a little hour and haven’t encountered any lag/drop issues so far.

I’ll let you all know if anything but so far I can confirm that everything seems to be working fine on a 2019 MBP with touchbar + a simple cable (no hub) from Mixer to MBP. MBP updates to Mac OS Catalina and Serato update to version 2.3

Hope this helps anyone who might still encounter this issue.

@Chris > Thanks for that -- something that might have saved you a step; the uninstaller application from within the driver download package itself. Running that, then rebooting / reinstalling the drivers does offer the security prompt as well.

I'm glad you were able to get things working, sorry it took you so many hours to do so!

@ Pulse: that's exactly what I tried to do for several hours, but I never got prompted to "allow" the access, which is why I wrote my comment in the first place.

I followed all the instructions, but I couldn't go through as my Mac was already considering the driver as installed, but disabled.

FYI, after searching for the "old, disabled" drivers I finally found them on following location of my drive:

Macintosh HD --> Library --> StagedExtensions --> Library --> Extensions --> [Drivers.kext]

I searched google how to delete these files, as a simple right click delete didn't work (CMD+Backspace neither).

so I found following article mentioning you could empty this in the Terminal application with following script:

stackoverflow.com

Here is the post that helped me, posted by Hrishikesh Chaudhari.

"There is new way to clear the StageExtensions folder [in Terminal] as following

sudo kextcache --clear-staging

This command will clear the /Library/StageExtensions folder. We dont need to go to recovery mode and delete manually this folder in case there are some permission errors while installing software."

After that, I was able to uninstall the driver through Pioneer's own uninstaller, restarted the computer, plugged in my DJM-S9, launched Serato, a pop up screen on the bottom right proposed to install the driver, which I did, I simultaneously opened the System Preferences --> Security & Privacy tab, where I finally got to see that some software from Pioneer corporation was blocked and was able to click on the "Allow" button.

after that, everything worked at last.
