Ripping vinyl

Hi. Can someone explain to me the best combination for sound quality when ripping vinyl? I have a plx500, MacBook Pro, DDJ1000 and an art pre dj2 amp. I’ve tried various ways but the Spek results are aways disappointing. They look like 128kbps rips despite me clicking on WAV in audacity. There is very little dark green indicating a strong rip. I fee I am doing something wrong.

Have you tried ripping directly into rekordbox from the PLX-500?

i have, its just not great.  i don't think the sound card in the DDJ1000 is brilliant, as vinyl always sounds really quiet compared to Mp3 in DDJ. It sounds thin.  I can add in the pre amp, just wondered if direct to mac (via pre amp) should sound better?

The audio interface of the DDJ should certainly sound better than a 128k MP3. Your cartridge used on the PLX may play a bigger part than the audio interface.

use thank for reply, i invested in a fairly decent numark cart.  I'm just not really sure how is best to connect it up for ripping.

I don't know the technical terms, but there isn't enough green in Spek, and there isn't enough light blue in Audacity. They look like 128kbps rips.

I am using a Pioneer PLX500, with a Numark cart. I have a cork slipmatt. I have various connection options, but if I use the USB output straight to MacBook it gives results like the second half of the Audacity rip above.

if I go into an Art DJPre2 then griffin Mic (line) then iMac, then Audacity it gives results as per the left half of the above rips.

The question really is how do I get the rips to look more like this

That just looks like your gain is too low. Do you have the PHONO output connected to a LINE input?

its peaking in both audacity and if i use it on the Art pre.  my specific question is what is the best combination for sound quality when ripping vinyl?

I have a plx500, MacBook Pro, DDJ1000 and an art pre dj2 amp.

straight from pax to macbook

pax then pre amp to macbook

or via the ddj 1000

thanks

You could connect the PLX directly via USB, so I'd go that route - shortest signal path and a DAC directly at the turntable.
