CDJ 3000 / DJM900NXS2 Ethernet Link Losing USB Connection

(Somewhat unrelated)

I decided to update to Big Sur, so I hosed my rekordbox usability (Audio cutouts, incorrect waveforms on CDJs, etc.) so I had to start using the CDJ/DJM set standalone with USB export of my playlists.

(Issue)

My CDJs are really iffy on maintaining a proper link connection with the other CDJ's USB drive. Can't understand why, but this is with a brand new Samsung USB drive (64GB), CDJs that are only a couple months old by now, original ethernet cables that shipped with the CDJs, and a new Netgear network switch to connect all 3 devices.

I have an event I'm playing for (with all my own gear) for New Year's, and although the Big Sur update was my fault, and I take responsibility for that mistake, the CDJs should at the very least work in standalone mode without my players randomly going into emergency loop mode. I was hoping to update to 1.06 but the update was corrupt and wouldn't unzip. I will try with the new firmware, once Pioneer fixes the file and report back, unless this is a known issue that is already being worked on.

Hey Arthur,

Try narrowing it down; connect one player directly to another via an ethernet cable, if that's no problem, try a second cable. If that also works, use those two known-good cables to connect the two CDJs through the switch.

Unfortunately none of the drivers or software have been validated for Big Sur (hopefully mid-December), so if that's the only point where the problem exists, then we know for certain it's the compatibility.

Is your network hub gigabit speed?  Cdj3000s require faster hubs than the old nxs 2 as they are transferring considerably more data.  Try linking the players direct without a hub, see if you have a stable link then, if so then its your hub thats at fault.

Hope this helps.

Steve, I just checked and my network hub is in fact Gigabit speed. It has 4xGigabit ethernet ports on it.

Yesterday, I finally got to install the 1.06 firmware update after the fixed zip file was emailed to me, and for a bit, the link did seem like it was getting better. (I also had disconnected the switch, and connected the 2 CDJs directly to each other, which could be part of it.

So instead of the link crapping out 4 tracks in, I was able to get through a whole 25 track list of music. Unfortunately, when I started my next set, the linked CDJ had issues connecting to the USB on the other deck. This time was different however, as the previously loaded track was still loaded, and playable (hence I believe it still had a connection) but when I hit the "Browse" button, it showed none of my music, and instead just showed "Waiting." forever. (Also, if you notice in the video below, the "Master Player" designation did not change to the actual master player.)

Again, this is with the ethernet cable that shipped with my CDJs. I will investigate this further later tonight to see if I can reproduce the same issue, but it seems this is still far from stable. My plan for tonight is to try multiple cables with the same setup (CDJ -> ethernet cable -> CDJ)

So last night, I was able to play for like 2.5 hours without any link disconnect issues using the same cable that gave me an issue the night before. This certainly makes debugging this more complicated as it neither confirms a bad cable nor confirms my cable is good, and same for the firmware/hardware.

Quite unfortunate the system is so unstable this many months in, and while I'm hoping this problem is at worst, only intermittent, it is still frustrating to have these issues with a product that is so expensive. Hoping a few more firmware updates make this rock-solid so I don't have to worry about emergency looping for the first gig I've had all year.

As for the issues I described in this thread, I will keep an eye on the setup for the next week or so, and will close the thread if I no longer experience the same issues, as it seems there is no reliable way to reproduce these errors.

I can critique/complain/rant for days about various Pioneer DJ-developed technologies and products, but i've found PRO LINK to be one of the only truly stable technologies in the entire DJ world (imho). every single PRO LINK-related problem/issue i've ever experienced, fixed, caused or read about was due to a mistake in user set-up (which is both easy to make and usually just as easy to fix). With that said:

from your video i can just make out that you have the CDJ3000 on the left (PLAYER 1) running into CH 2 of the mixer. I couldn't tell exactly which mixer channel you had the CDJ on the right (PLAYER 2) connected, but presumably it is CH 1 or CH 3 or CH 4.

ALWAYS have your player number set to whatever mixer channel number the player is running into. So in your case if you want CDJ on the left to play out of CH2 of mixer, set the player number to PLAYER 2 in Utilities. if you want the audio for the player on the right side to play out of mixer channel 3, set the player number to PLAYER 3. that should fix all your issues (except issues arising from Big Sur stuff, if you have a computer connected via LINK).

I have Player 1 plugged into Channel 2 and Player 2 into Channel 3.

While I can't speak for your experience with PRO LINK, I can tell you this was likely something to do with the firmware, not user error for one reason: I ran an ethernet cable from Player 1 -> Player 2 sans-ethernet hub, and without plugging in my mixer into the same network (Using original Pioneer-supplied ethernet cable) and the problem still persisted until I installed v1.06 firmware. I had attempted to play 3 sets on v1.04, and within 4-6 tracks in each set, I was shoved into emergency loop, despite the CDJs being directly connected to one another (Snug, secure connection with the cables, plus brand new, non-cheap USB drive too).

That being said, I have not faced any emergency loop issues since that update, and have decided I will likely just keep P1 and P2 connected directly to each other, and cut the ethernet hub and DJM out of the network completely, as I see no real benefit to having the mixer be connected to the players.

Yeah. I just bought the cdj3000s and djm900nx2 and have the same problem.
When i connect the ethernet i lose the USB connection for my Beatport library.
So i guess it is a firmware issue. It really should be fixed by pioneer i think.
You should connect everything properly without having any issue is my opinion.. and when i look at the date you posted the problem and the date today, it seems like they are doing anything about it. A shame..

"When i connect the ethernet i lose the USB connection for my Beatport library."

What devices are connected via USB and which are connected via ethernet?

When i connect everything with ethernet cables to a hub ( without connection from hub to laptop) and connect the USB cables to my laptop the problem seems to occur.
When i take the ethernet cable out of the djm900nx2 the problem disappears. So at the moment i can not connect the djm with the cdjs via ethernet cable while using the USB cables for my Beatport link library. I think it should be possible to connect everything without having issues. Also playing with a ethernet cable makes the djm channel playing light up the cdj jog in red light. That option disappears when there is no ethernet connection from cdjs to djm.
Hope you van fix that problem soon👍🏼

Try connecting everything via ethernet to each-other, and ONLY the DJM via USB to the computer.

ok so i cleared it up. So you can connect USB and Ethernet to everything and each other. When you open the cdj source you get the choice whether you want to work via djm or cdj source. I selected the djm source for example. After that, the beatport playlist is not available on the cdj. Then you first have to open and select this playlist on the laptop in Rekorbox itself. From then on, the playlist will only appear on the CDJ and you can operate it with your CDJs. Then there is only the problem of the red jog lighting which only works if you have no USB connections but only Ethernet and therefore only works if you run via a USB stick or SD card.. Hopefully, software can still be moderately changed so that this function is also available when you are connected and running in Rekorbox via USB and laptop.
