V10 can't use channel 5 & 6 unless ALL players are CDJ-3000s

The V10 has 6 channels. If you have four decks you'll want to put them on channels 2,3,4,5 for symmetry ... or else you'll want to put them on 3,4,5,6 if you're used to using a Xone 96 and want channels 1/2 for effects.

But that's not going to work unless you replace ALL your decks with CDJ-3000s. You'll have to wire up the V10 backwards and leave channels 5/6 empty.

I hate this. I hate knowing that every venue is going to wire it up this way BECAUSE THAT'S THE ONLY WAY THAT WORKS, and now everybody's going to have to deal with the fact that the standard layout will be backwards.

Pro DJ Link was extended to support assigning a CDJ-3000 as device 5 or 6, but they did it in a way which is totally incompatible with the existing Pro DJ Link protocol.

This is understandable because a device on channels 1-4 still needs to recognize data from a channel 5/6 device to be able to load tracks or use the phase meter when a deck on channel 5/6 is Master.

What doesn't make sense is totally breaking it so that a CDJ-2000NXS2 doesn't work it all. If there is a CDJ-3000 on channel 5 or 6 then you're It can't even see devices 1-4, can't give BPM data to the mixer, and can't load tracks from a Rekordbox instance serving your music library on the network.

A CDJ-3000 which is assigned to channel 5 or 6 it will give you an error as soon as a CDJ-2000NXS2 is turned on, and the CDJ-2000NXS2 will just sit there blinking because it can't connect to Pro DJ Link.

Hopefully Pioneer will eventually have a firmware update for older devices to work with the new Pro DJ Link specification. I'm sure they think it'll help their sales if they force people to buy CDJ-3000s to use device 5/6 on a V10, so I wouldn't expect them to add the option of assigning an older CDJ to channel 5/6. But it's actually going to make people return CDJ-3000s when they realize there's a compatibility problem and they need to replace ALL their decks before they can use channel 5/6.

It's not exactly a huge problem. It's just a big annoyance. If you want to use CDJ-2000NXS2s with CDJ-3000s then you can just leave them off the network (or make a 2nd network just for the CDJ-2000NXS2s). For me the only real annoyance is that I really like having the red on-air ring when the deck's fader is open, and obviously that doesn't work when the CDJ isn't linked to the mixer.
